Interesting review.
I do need to get something off my chest. I never had much interest in finding lost balls, especially ones that have been sitting at the bottom of a lake for who knows how long. I don't even carry a ball retriever. When I find a lost ball, many times I will just leave it, unless it looks like a new Pro V1 (maybe my only exception). If I'm playng with my father in law I'll give him the balls I find. Does that make me a ball snob?

Maybe an "underwater golf ball snob"?? (not that there's anything wrong with that)

I consider it a good day if I come home with more golf balls than I left with, the other day I lost one, found two so I was happy.
As for the ball hog, I don't try and drag any out of the water, I figure if they went in there before they will be destined to return. Kind of like buying a motorcycle, never buy one that's been layed down.

I'm with you, I always give away found balls even Pro-V's. So I guess that makes me a Nike One Platinum ball snob. However I did use the "Hog" the other day when playing with JB and it works well, the nice thing was it grabbed the ball and held it it without having to drag it across the bottom. Of course it wasn't my ball so it got donated to the guys.

I'm feel very much the same way. With the amount of money I spend on golf every year, a $3 golf ball isn't worth messing around in a pond for. On a related note, pace of play is already a disaster on most courses. If this tool is useful for course management or maybe a course neighbor to retrieve balls, great. But if I saw some clown trolling the bottom of a pond with a tool like this DURING a round, he'd be pretty likely to get an earful from me.

I agree, but for $3 if it is retrevable, get it. The problem I have is the guy who gets his ball then spends 5 minutes trying to fish out a few more. You are well within the rules to search for a lost ball, but just don't get greedy.

Interesting review, bummer it didn't work out.
I love looking for lost golf balls, I pretty much always come home with more than I go out with. While I'm waiting for the group in front of me, I'm whacking weeds with my retriever.
I will say however, that I've become more selective in the balls I'll keep, some go straight into the shag bucket.
This thing had promise. But the plastic is poorly constructed. And to top that off, it just hangs on to mud from the bottom of water. What a pain to clean.
