I've had a couple of experiences lately that I wanted to share which may help members think outside the square when it comes to golf clothing requirements.

Cold weather mitts
Yes, sometimes winter in sunny Australia gets cold. However, because a lot of Australia has a mild winter many golf shops don't stock cold weather golf gear. So, if there's a cold snap, sometimes there's no local alternative. Anyway, to get to the point, I was looking for a set of 'golf mitts' this winter (southern winter that is) but basically found out that they're almost impossible to find in Australia b/c of our generally temperate climate. I was discussing the matter with my teaching pro, who had moved from England (plenty of cold weather there), & he said that when he was living in England he found the mitts made by golf companies to be of inferior quality. He recommended I pick up a pair of ski mitts from a ski shop, which would be totally waterproof also, be better quality, be able to be used snow skiing, etc etc. Long story short, I followed his recommendation & he was right. Now I have a top quality pair of mitts for golf (and snow skiing).

Short socks
Just following up on the forum about short socks in which someone suggested to look in a cycle shop. Another example of thinking outside the square & liable to find better quality apparel that suits golfing also.

Waterproof Outfits
I have been looking around for a waterproof outfit (still looking by the way). The golf shops in Australia don't tend to stock a lot of it, again because of the temperate climate and lack of rain at times. I was chatting with a shop assistant at a golf shop (who happens also to be a female touring pro). She recommended I look in an outdoor shop because through experience she had found some waterproof outfits from outdoor shops to be better quality & more waterproof than some golf waterproof outfits.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Ski wear is good for cold weather as well--love Hot Chillys. No clue if there's much skiing your way, Brad.

The Snowy Mountains in the southern (alpine) area of the State of New South Wales is where it all happens.

Not like the European & North American ski fields but not bad. New Zealand is also a two hour plane flight away & it has even better ski fields.

And instead of moguls, they use sheep?

No sheep smilies, so I have to go with this:
