View Full Version : Official Rant of the Day Thread

Okay, let's make this official.
A few years ago, we decided to do a low key home sound/television system. Not too fancy, but speakers throughout the first floor and all the equipment wired in together.
The not too fancy part was the problem. At least a couple of years ago, find an outfit that would do something smallish for a homeowner. We got referred around until we found someone who would do it.
Which was probably our first mistake. It's done, but something is always going wrong. Getting the guy to come out and deal with it is impossible. Doesn't return phone calls (I swear he sees my number on his cell and runs), doesn't return emails. When I finally get ahold of him, he promises to come and never does. It can take a couple of months to get him to show.
So last night we were unable to get any video. I hate having a big, hi-def flat screen television and telling the kids they have to go to the basement to watch television.
We should probably start from scratch, but in this economy? Well, maybe we'd get a better outfit to figure it all out.
Grrrr. Don't know when I'm going to have a working television in my family room again. Never mind all the other little glitches we've been working with.
Sorry to hear that. I have never really had a problem with any of the stuff I have had equipment wise. In my last house, we had an 8 person theater setup complete with 12 ft screen and seats. And not once had a problem. I think your installer might have made some mistakes. Call someone and get them to come out to give you a free estimate on what it would cost to fix it for good.
This is now a sticky and will be here for everyones rants each day. Thanks Claire

It sounds like you got a half-assed install. I've done a couple of home theaters, lots of big huge churches, a few schools, and never once had a call back.
I wish I knew a way to help you out, but not being able to look at it in person, along with the manuals, it's hard to tell.
http://www.clarkpromedia.com/site/index.html
Try calling these guys, explain that you have a home theater, and see who they recommend. I've done a couple of big jobs with them, and they're SUPER sharp, and may be able to help you find a contractor in your area that's going to be able to fix the mess. If you strike out, let me know, I'll see what else I can do to get you going down the right path.

Oh great--now I'm sticky.
Thanks, guys. I went to the equipment maker's web site, but clearly I need to figure out which model I have. I figure I'll torture them. Maybe they have someone else around her who deals with this stuff. At a minimum, they need to know they have a lousy distributer.
Someone should give a rat's *ss about this, right?

Rant mode on. So I am not a big myspace user, but I do keep up with some old friends there that have relocated to different parts of the country(hung out with a friend in St. Pete's last weekend I haven't seen in 10+ years thanks to myspace). However, the one thing that annoys me to no end is the ads with the super hot chick acting like she is talking to you on her webcam that are everywhere on that site. Rant mode off

Ever since I got back from Oregon, I can't swing a club for sh*t. I don't know what it is, in Oregon I was hitting the ball amazingly, and now I can't hit an 8 iron 100 yards! It feels like I'm swinging the same, which I'm obviously not, but I cannot hit the ball. Seriously I hit tops, fats, shanks, thins, you name it, I've hit it in the last 1 1/2 weeks (as long as it is a bad shot)
And to add to this, I'm the kind of guy who misses one day of swinging and my swing goes to hell for 2 or 3 days, and just recently I jammed my finger hard, and wasn't able to swing for a week.
So I hate when I can't hit a ball like I know I can :at-wits-end:

Today's rant: I have an inexpensive alarm clock with an out-of-date microchip. Darn thing set itself back overnight, and I can't change it!! So for the next week (or two? I forget), I have to set my alarm back an hour.

I have a rant!
Does anyone stop to get gas and feel like they're taking a quiz? I want to insert card, pick up lever, and have gas come out like I used to, but first (and only since recently,) there's that wonderful series of questions.
This was my day today:
For starters, there are three different buttons for "yes," "ok," and "enter," which to me all mean the same thing in computerspeak.
1. Swipe card. (Done.)
2. Is this a debit card? ("No." The computer pauses. "No"..."enter?" Oh wait, it's going again.)
3. Enter zip code. (This is a trick, since I have an out of state card for a local account. And as a conspiracy, you always have to roll your finger over the 5 a few times, and my old zip code has two fives in a row. OK, done..."yes." No! "Enter!")
4. Re-enter zip code for confirmation. (Pulling my hair out! I suspect it's an out-of-stater hater thing.)
5. Car wash? (JERKS! It could be -5 deg F and they'll ask this!)
6. Select fuel. (Scan keypad for button. It's not on the keypad. It's by the handle.)
7. Begin fueling. (OK. Handle in. Button locked. And...no fuel. "OK?" Wait, there's a little lever to lift on this machine. Wait, the computer paused. Did I lose everything? "Enter?" "Yes?" Oh wait, it's going again.)
8. Proceed with 30 second fueling.

And while we're at it--why can't ATMs ask the same questions in the same order? I get so used to pushing a series of buttons that sometimes I don't look. Then I'm truly screwed.

IT goes in overnight, and proceeds to block damn near everything on the 'net.
This is up (for now), we'll see how long it lasts. Crap like this is never a good thing in a job, when they need to police the employees (especially those of us working 60-80 hour weeks)
This crap pisses me off.

Watching the Champion's Tour on TGC, I've never seen so many commercials during one broadcast. One golf shot, then 3 or 4 commercials all for geriatric crap, WTF! I don't need a MediCare supplement! Besides, what old person's up at this hour, we all know they go to bed at dark (yes, that was a loaded comment, I know)
It was almost as nauseating as watching a TNT broadcast of a golf event.

Does Australia distinguish between notarized and guaranteed signatures? Anyone can be a notary (practically), but only asset custodians (broker/dealers and banks) can guarantee signatures. Getting a signature guaranteed is such a pain in the rear.
[My proudest moment was forging a client's signature and then notarizing my own forgery--all with the client's consent, of course.]

Man am I tired of Oprah. I was just watching the nightly news and I have to sit through another Oprah commercial about how Brad Pitt is on tomorrow. Is Oprah really that powerful? Do I really need to see Oprah billboards on every street corner? Listen to commercials for the Oprah on the XM baseball station? I swear she is going to take over the world. Ok, im done now. Just had to get that off my chest.

During the fires out here this week, they actually had a bullet point on Oprahs house and one where the fire was. It was close to her house, dont get me wrong, but they stayed on it for a couple hours. The worst part about it was that I watched it, all 3 hours of the fire by Oprahs house coverage.

Thanks. Not so healthy, but still with us. One big regret in my life is that I didn't take up golf until Dad was pretty much past the point where he could play. My pet peeve of the day is waiting in line at Dunkin Donuts with probably 10 people in front of me. We were waitning at least five minutes, which is no big deal. Finally, they ask the lady in front of me for her order and she has NO idea what she wants. She waited until they were ready for her to order to start looking at the menu. I came THIS close to saying something to her! I'm still fired up about it. :at-wits-end:

that happens all the time to me! our offices are located above The Copley and Prudential Malls and we often frequent the food court. Don't bother reading this; it's long and boring. I just need to vent.
Our town does recycling on alternating Thursdays, with half the town recycling every week. There is no recycling pickup on Thanksgiving or on Christmas if it falls on a Thursday. This year, we get hit with both.
If I were the Recycling God, I would just move everything back a week, so each half of town has to go three weeks before recycling. But no--we just get skipped. So my little mud room closet is going to get jammed with four weeks of recycling. Four weeks of three newspapers. Four weeks of kids' schoolwork. Four weeks of every bottle, can, and jar we use. I already can't get in there, and we've got 13 days to go. And in four weeks, with all the Christmas detritis, we get to do it again.

Wal-Mart worker dies after being trampled by shoppers
NEW YORK (AP) — A worker died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers when a suburban Wal-Mart opened for the holiday sales rush Friday, authorities said.
At least three other people were injured.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in Bentonville, Ark., would not confirm the reports of a stampede but said a "medical emergency" had caused the company to close the store, which is in Valley Stream on Long Island.
Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. The cause of death was not immediately known.
A police statement said shortly after 5 a.m., a throng of shoppers "physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground." Police also said a 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospitals.
The dead worker's name was not released.
"Local authorities are looking into the situation," said Wal-Mart representative Dan Fogleman. But he said it would be "inappropriate for me to share any additional information" until authorities investigate further.
Shoppers around the country lined up early outside stores in the annual bargain hunting ritual known as Black Friday. Many stores open early and stay open late. The Valley Stream Wal-Mart usually opens at 9 a.m.

And it's one of the rare instances where I think the store shares a large portion of the responsibility and liability. They promote the hell out of these sales, they deep discount major items but only stock one or two of them, they know it happens every year, and they don't do a damn thing to stop it.
Don't get me wrong, the customers should go to jail too. But I hope the family of the worker sues the hell out of Wal-Mart.

So--two gloves from Glove It. Checkout says they're coming in a two pound (!) box, for $11.33 in shipping charges. If that site hadn't had a 40% off deal, no way would I have done it.

I have about 10 items and there isn't an "express lane" open, so I wait patiently. Then they announce that "lanes 5 & 6 are now open, no waiting". But I am in between the displays now and "lane committed". Everyone behind me makes a mad dash for the open lanes and they all end up checking out before me, and I end up waiting almost 20 minutes to check out. Maybe I am just old fashioned, but I would have given the people in line in front of me an opportunity to go ahead to the open check out first.

This was simply going to be to torture Grogger further, but then TCT fortuitiously asked. I happen to own the pinwheel skort and polo, along with the matching (but not shown) socks. Serious matchy-matchy:

I thought briefly about posting this under golf accessories, but no.
Boo Girl has is getting some cool golf accessories for Christmas, and I figured Mom could get some as well.
So--two gloves from Glove It. Checkout says they're coming in a two pound (!) box, for $11.33 in shipping charges. If that site hadn't had a 40% off deal, no way would I have done it.
My next stop was golfballs.com. Boo Girl is getting 12 green Volviks; I'm getting 15 white Pinnacles. Total shipping? $8.15.
Go figure.
That is absurd and borderline offensive. I wouldn't have bought from either of them.
Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, and TGW have flat rate shipping around $5, and most have coupons out right now.

Maybe, but it really depends on how much the items were. For example, when I buy on ebay, I look at total cost. I may pay a lot more for shipping, but that just means I won't pay as much for the item. Although, if you have an issue you want to pay more for the item and less for the shipping in case you have to return it. But apples to apples for something you are keeping, you gotta look at the total, not how much either of the two charges are.

Boy, I feel safer knowing that terrorists and drug smugglers will be subject to the superior investigative skills of American airport screeners...
(and spell-checking reporters)
Woman who smuggled monkey into U.S. under her shirt convicted
SPOKANE, Wash.--A mother and daughter from Eastern Washington have been convicted of illegally smuggling a monkey into the United States from Thailand.
Two women from Eastern Washington were convicted of illegally smuggling a macaque monkey like this one into the U.S. from Thaliand.
The two women were found guilty on separate charges of conspiracy and smuggling goods into the U.S.
Investigators said they would not have been caught if it weren't for a shopping trip last year.
Investigators said 28-year-old Gypsy Lawson and her mother, 56-year-old Fran Ogren, flew to Thailand in November of 2007 and bought a macaque monkey
Court documents state Lawson hid the monkey, which she named Apoo, under her shirt to pass through airport security, telling screeners she was pregnant. The screeners bought it.
The two women were in the clear until Pratt and Lawson went shopping in North Spokane and brought Apoo along.
They told a clerk how they smuggled the monkey. The clerk called federal agents who then raided Lawson's Spokane home in January and seized the monkey.
The two women were found guilty Monday by a 12-member jury on separate charges of conspiracy and smuggling goods into the United States. Sentencing is set for March 3.
Both women face 5 to 20 years in prison.
It’s not clear exactly why Lawson wanted a pet monkey, but either way Apoo is now at a primate rescue facility in Oregon where it will remain.
P.S. Who is Pratt?

It's not because of taxes, I'm sure. In Kansas, if you have a driver's license (or, I guess, a state-issued ID), you can get called for jury duty. Years ago i think it was only if you were registered to vote (that's what I heard, anyway) but if it was, they changed it at lest 25 years ago.

I got this from: http://www.texasjudge.com/juryduty/index.html (http://www.texasjudge.com/juryduty/index.html) in the Common Questions section at the bottom of the page:
1. How was I chosen for jury duty?
A prospective juror list is compiled from the county's voter registration and driver's license lists. The District Clerk, under the supervision of the District Judges, determines the number of jurors needed for the following month. A computer is programmed to select randomly the necessary number of individuals to receive jury summons. The summons are then printed and mailed, at least ten days in advance of the appointed date.

Well, I've had my first major issue with DirecTV.
Starting last Sunday, I couldn't get satellite reception on one of my tuners. That means, if I'm watching one thing, and I've scheduled something else to record, it records black. Or if I'm watching the thing I'm recording and I try to change the channel, I get a "No satellite reception" message. (It depends on what channel was being used first. Bottom line, only one tuner.) But Monday, everything was fine.
Yesterday, same thing happens again. I reset the unit several times. No change. I unplug it and plug it back in again per instructions on the DTV website. This time, I can't get any satellite reception. Both tuners gone. I check the dish, the cables, the connections, etc. Nothing appears wrong.
Today I call DirecTV and they walk me through the same procedures I dent through yesterday. Still no reception. "You need a service call. The first one we have is Dec. 23rd."
A week? Plus, I will be out of town. So we are talking January.
WTF?? The can't get someone here for a week? I have a 47" HD TV, an HD DVR that I had to pay $300 for the privilege of using so that I could pay DTV another monthly fee to use it and another fee for programming . . . and my TV screen just a pretty shade of electronic black with an error message, and they can't get someone here for a week. That's just crappy service.
Someone will have to tell me who wins Big Break:X.
One of the reasons we left them Harry. I miss the NFL Ticket but we have not had an outage yet with cable.

Our home theater has been working for a number of years now, but I dread the day there's a problem because it's a snakepit of cables and wires that keep all the smoke inside the many and various boxes. It'll be a sad day when we have to take it apart and figure out how to replace or repair part of it.
Sorry for your pain...

My rant today is about the stock market and my 401k. I'm young and bought into the save for the future crap. So when I was eligible to sign up for my works 401k program a couple years ago I did. Earlier this year I wanted to raid it to pay off a couple of things from when I was "young and dumb" only to find out that I couldn't do that because my company doesn't allow any withdrawls until retirement or hardship. Well my reason for withdrawl wasn't one of the hardships so I was denied. Then Monday I get my quarterly statement in the mail. This last quarter I lost $4,000. Now I'm sure some of you on here probably lost twice or three times as much as I did but still it really upsets me. That money could have been "lost" in a much more effective way had I been able to do with it what I want. I'm just glad I won't be retiring anytime soon. :at-wits-end:

I did too. I bought into the college degree lie. "Get a well rounded background, most people don't go into they studied anyway, intern and network and find work..." yeah, right!
If I knew what I know now, I would have picked something people can't live without and specialized in it.

So you have more in there for the inevitable comeback. The markets are up more than 20% since November 20, the last (hopefully really the last) low point. You have more in there taking advantage of it.
Seriously, seriously--your 401(k) is NOT a piggy bank. It's really really long term. Keep contributing. And the vast majority should be going into stocks. If there's an S&P 500 index fund as an option, shove it there.
Plus, if you'd pulled out that $4,000, it would all be ordinary income for tax purposes, plus you'd have a $400 penalty on the early withdrawal. Far better to leave it in.
There has never been a 10 year period when stocks weren't up. I don't think that's going to change this time.

I know that. There were just a couple of things that needed taken care of and that was the reason I wanted to dip into it. I ended up getting help from family so it all worked out in the end. I just hate borrowing from family.

Grrrr. ISP reconfigured the emails. No problem on my computer, but I'm not getting work emails on the crackberry, and the remote email site vaporized. I was at a conference all day yesterday. Had no way to set up an autoresponse and couldn't get email on the crack. 87 of them waiting for me this morning. Can't seem to set the new addresss up manually.
Got the crackberry plugged into my CPU, but for the life of me I can't find anywhere on their web site how to autosync my email address. Gazillion FAQs on how to pay the bill or upgrade, but nothing on what I really need.

This is little, but it gets to me:
If I'm paying for something with a major credit card, either by phone or on the 'Net, why on earth do I have to say which credit card I'm using?
Every AmEx starts with a 3.
Every VISA starts with a 4.
Every Mastercard starts with a 5.
Every Discover starts with a 6.
Okay, if Diner's Club is even still around, not sure how it starts.
I seriously cannot believe human order takers don't know this (and I'm always surprised when they don't). Don't they notice?
Maybe this is a way to catch really stupid criminals, if the first digit doesn't match the card type. But really--why the extra, unnecessary step?
Diners Club is still around. It is Mastercard branded now.

Well just think you could have been laid off with your 1,799 friends. Bummer on the salary and bonus. We had our Christmas party canceled but we got a "free" $100 gift card to just about where ever we wanted. I chose Golf Smith. I say "free" because they added it to the following weeks paycheck as additional compensation and taxed me on it.

Amen brother, same here. Being a small company we just scaled back many of our part time hours. Everything else you mentioned hit the nail on the head for me execpt we had our christmas party this year, but it was in the warehouse at work and everyone had to bring their own dish and drinks. The worst part is the party was on a weeknight at 7 pm and I get off work at 5 pm and live a half hour away, so I ended up working late to stay there. SO here's a question:
Why is it so hard to put something back where you got it from?
Every day, I come home, to the house in complete disarray (which does not improve my mood after 12 hours at the office, and Dallas traffic)
I have a pencil cup on my desk, the girls have managed to lose no less than 3 of my good pens (~$30 ea), and can't seem to put anything back. There are shoes in the floor. Snack wrappers on the counter, art/craft stuff in the living room floor and hairbrushes where they should never be.

If you're 7 years old playing leapfrog in the living room with a 3-year old and I tell you that isn't a good idea and someone is going to get hurt, why does that mean "Keep playing leapfrog ... only do it faster and louder"?
And why when you get kneed in the head do you expect me to come running over to you sympathetically?

Being a creature of habit and fairly organized, I can totally understand where you are coming from. When I take a day off from work and I come back, I can always tell when someone has been at my desk because things are not where they are supposed to be. Thank you. It's especially trying when our house is tiny (apartment sized, I bought it when I was single, before wife and kiddo) which makes it even more important to keep things where they belong. It freaks me out to come home, and there are trails to get around because there is so much stuff out.
I think I'm the only one in my building that will take the time to clean out my office and give everything a good cleaning every week or two. Old blueprints get scanned and tossed, paperwork goes into the shredder, desk and print table get wiped down and so on. Every night before I leave, my plans are arranged neatly, pens put into the pencil cup, keyboard put where it belongs, so when I come in the next morning, I can get straight to work.
Craig - I'm definitely ready for some time off. I'm thinking hard of heading out to the Farm the day after Christmas for a few days alone to relax. A few cigars, some meat to throw on the smoker; it'll give me time to hunt, watch movies and work on my Bronco.

In fact, after my last post, the girls were showering and had some broken plastic cup in the shower (don't ask, I have no idea why). The little one stepped on it and cut the bottom of her foot. My reaction? Pretty much freak out on everyone. Send help ... soon.

We have 5-6 inches of snow, with a thick layer of ice on top of it. If there is one time in the year you'd want to be able to garage your cars!
But no--we have the Driveway of Death. The plow service FINALLY showed up at 4:45 yesterday (after Boo and I had shoveled enough at the top to fit both cars there), but even that wasn't enough--more snow and then ice.
So our cars sit, frigid, at the top of the driveway, covered in frozen snow.
There's enough ice the kids can't even sled down our driveway, which is what they usually do. More snow predicted tonight.

The NFL channel isn't included in your cable package?
Most cable companies do not get the NFL network Harry. That is why so many are upset because the NFL is putting more and more games on their network, but they charge the cable companies a huge amount to carry the channel so they balked.

I didn't know that. I thought it was part of expanded basic like with my service (DirecTV). (Oh, btw, my receiver magically started working again today after DTV pushed through a new firmware. I'm willing to bet that they fouled it up the first time and that is what screwed me in the first place. That's been happening a lot lately.)

Guess everyone has short memories.
They forced their hand with the cable companies and 90% of the cable companies said "No thank you". So with the exception of a few regionals and Verizon Fios, cable companies do not get the channel. In doing so, it has angered the general public.
THe thought was in doing this more people would go to Directv since that is their bread and butter anyway. But with the new upped cost of the Superfan package on Directv, it is just simply not worth it for most people.
I was a 10 year Directv subscriber. Loved them. When they went HD, I was one of the first to rush out and buy an HD box. THen HD tivo came out and I spent another grand on that one.
Then 3 months later they told me that they are going Mpreg4 and that my boxes would no longer work. I either had to buy new boxes or they would "lease" me boxes for a flat rate of $200 per box. I had it and cancelled.

I was pretty sure in Minnesota the television stations were not only under contract to play the Vikings games on network TV, but to also have no other football games playing at that time. Especially when they want the taxpayers to build them stadiums, I think broadcasting the games is the least they can do.
I don't understand why I should not only have to pay for cable TV (someone else here wants it) but to find out they want me to pay even MORE for things that used to be free, like NBC or football games? DirectTV, satellites, SuperFan stuff...when does it stop...is the NFL that strapped for cash?

So, I paid $300 up front for the right to rent their HD receiver for a monthly fee. WTF is that?
But here, Comcast is way worse. I had them for years and was always in an argument with them. Overall, I've been pretty satisfied with DTV in comparison. I'm just sick of companies not being straightforward. Phone company, cable, internet providers, etc. . . . they are all using misleading practices. Just tell me what it costs, and then take care of me.

Well, we just drove around for an hour trying to find a place broadcasting the game. Many bars weren't playing it - we found two places, but they were shoulder-to-shoulder, standing room only, out the doors. I'm not going to stand outside watching through a window with a bunch of drunk Texans.
It was pretty cool though, we did find a Trans Siberian Orchestra laser and lights show. I guess if the NFL is going to be an exclusive club now, I need to find some more non-football things to do.

At least you are being spared the "analysis" (emphasis on anal) from Deion Sanders.

I didn't know that. (Not an issue for me though.) Thanks G-man.

Can someone explain to me why the NFL hasn't adopted the college model for instant replay? Just review everything. Way more efficient.

I hate rotating doors. There is enough room for two to go at a time but it's awkward because you have to go at the same speed or someone could get knocked down. If you chose to go alone than you have to wait until that person passes so you can get your own slot. I prefer the regular old push and pull doors.

I hate it when they lock the normal doors and force you to use the revolving door!

Revolving door that's the right term, I knew rotating wasn't right but I couldn't think of the proper word. I totally agree DD I hate them. I know it's supposed to look cool or something but I still like the original push/pull.

It's not all of the game, but better than nothing. They showed the last 10 or 12 minutes straight of the 4th quarter which was good, I was worried they'd cut away. "Contractually, we can't show you the whole game."
As Josh says, "contractually with who? You're the NFL!"
Julie,
Its their contract with Directv.

Julie,
Its their contract with Directv.
I think they're going to contract themselves right out of being a successful business. I remember growing up watching football with my family, just like my parents watched with theirs - now it's going to be only for the elite.

Oh, no, it's not just African Americans though. There was an "Everybody Loves Raymond" episode about it, and I know plenty other white folks that have lazy enunciation, as well.
Yeah,
Its not a race thing at all. It is an ignorance thing at this point.

LOL I was just talking about that at work yesterday. I actually looked it up in the urban dictionary....they have all sorts of crazy stuff in there. And it has nothing to do with the color of your skin, it's just modern day slang.
Note: I totally agree it's laziness.

I would not say that is "modern day slang" and sorry if I am in the wrong here, but at least in Boston, I have never heard someone white say "ax"
I take public transportation and hear it EVERYDAY, its just ebonics
"let me ax you something man, thems is mines"
Different areas it means different things or is said by different people. But this might not be the best place to debate race.

I didn't read through the whole thread so forgive me if this has been stated already. People who leave their Christmas lights up all year should be fined. Honestly, take a few hours to take them down. What is pretty in Dec becomes an eyesore in Mar.

I'll let you keep turning them on until New Year's.
In MN, often people put them up around Thanksgiving when we had the last few mild weekends. So long as you don't turn them on, it's actually OK I think to leave them up until March at the latest, because frankly it can be a safety thing, impossible to put up a ladder in a few feet of snow, or straight up iced over.
People take this, however, to mean you can leave your plastic figures in your yard, big icicle lights hanging down, strings of lights hanging from the trees, etc, until spring thaw.
I have other things I HATE about Christmas lights:
- Wrapping a tree halfway up the trunk and stopping. Come on people.
- A "tail" - a strand of lights leading off the tree trunk or house into the grass cause you didn't want to get an extension cord.
- Having one strand somewhere on your house blinking and the others not. The blinking being completely uncoordinated.
- Lack of aesthetic synthesis. Multiple Santas, one chilling over with Jesus and one of the wisemen, a lone elf off in the corner doing nothing, candy canes partially lining your driveway, three burned out.

When did NFL halftime shows become about yelling, screaming, interrupting, giggling, laughing, and generally annoying behavior instead of just showing and describing highlights?

since when does it take 4 and half hours to watch an NFL game? That's why I gave up on the sport... I read something last week there is an average of 12minutes of action played in football... that's insane!

Still on the subject of football . . .
when did it become acceptable to jump up and down and do a victory celebration for a routine play . . . like a tackle . . . when your team is losing . . .?
Lame.
I always respected players like Emmit Smith who just came to the field and did his job. Every time he did something spectacular, he just acted like he had been there before, and would be there again. And he had, and would.

Let's not forget Marcus Allen. He scored more touchdowns than just about anyone and I don't think he ever did anything more than flip it to the ref. (He probably kept some milestone TD's). I was glad I was able to see the last 5 years of his career in a KC uniform.

True. It's a shame that both he (Raiders) and Sanders (Lions) wasted their careers on poorly run teams that never had a chance at winning. Al Davis in particular can suck it for the way he treated Allen.

Well the Raiders did win one while Marcus was there,
http://static.nfl.com/static/site/img/superbowl/history/mvp/18-allen.jpg
As Washington's John Riggins had the year before, running back Marcus Allen made a spectacular run the signature play of the game. While the Raiders set a Super Bowl record for points and victory margin in their 38-9 win over Washington, it was Allen's 74-yard touchdown run on the final play of the third quarter that was the highlight of the team's impressive victory.
After taking a handoff from quarterback Jim Plunkett, Allen headed around left end. Bottled up there, he reversed field, turned the right corner and evaded several Redskins' tacklers on the way to the end zone. The run broke a record of 58 yards set by Tom Matte in Super Bowl III
Allen scored his first Super Bowl touchdown midway through the third quarter. His 5-yard run finished off a 70-yard Los Angeles drive. Allen, the Most Valuable Player, broke Riggins' Super Bowl rushing record with 191 yards on 20 carries.
