After day 1, there's an 8-way tie on top of the leaderboard, at -4. It's good to see Annika Sorenstam as one of them. Lorena herself is tied for 24, at +1. Bear in mind that this is a 36 woman field. Paula Creamer is tied for 33, with Suzann Pettersen. So there must have been some blowups out there. I probably won't get to the recording until this weekend, darn it.

Hey Harry, that's my companies mascot!

Not that particular photo, but a polar bear in general. "Literally" even!

I'm pulling for Sorenstam to win this week, it would be fitting for her to win the tournament of the person who has taken her spot, for her final tournament victory.

At least until she comes back in a few years.

I've actually always wondered that. I've actually never worn shorts on the course - some pants cropped short, but nothing that doesn't at least cover the knee. It just looks too casual, I think, most certainly if you're a pro.

Me too! But you know me.

Just watched round 1 - Guad. is a beautiful place. Nice sized crowds for the first day. With the scores as they are now, it looks like (almost) anyone's event to win. It would be great to see Sophia Sheridan improve. It's tough to pick a favorite out of that top ten, though.

That club is gorgeous isn't it?

A few interesting things I heard on the broadcast:

There are no public courses in Mexico, only private clubs. As a result, only 20,000 people in Mexico play golf(out of a population of over 100 million).

Last year, the club watered the course with contaminated water and virtually killed it. The were in a panic because the tournament had already been announced and they had to rush to repair everything.

Lorena considers it her greatest achievement in golf to bring this tournament to Mexico and her home town/home club.

I also like the limited field. Between this tournament and the ADT next week, its going to be a fun few weeks for women's golf.

Yeah--her last hole at the Open was fabulous, but it would be even nicer to see her exit with a win.

And then it's over for awhile. :bad:

Angela Stanford's in the lead. She's having a great year. Except--is it really mean and catty to say I wish she'd do something about her ears? The poor girl always makes me think of Dobby.

Not being a Harry Potter fan, I had to look up 'Dobby'. Hmm, not a very attractive creature. Claire, you are positively evil!! http://www.clipartof.com/images/thumbnail/338.gif

Great playing by Angela - nice to see her win another event. Hope her winning ways carry into 2009.

That was a great finish, wasn't it? How about those 3 hole-outs in a row that they showed (Annika's from the sand on the shot side of the green with a downslope was the best), and then on 18, Annika's lip-out that would have sent it into extra holes. Very fun.

I could have swore that Annika's putt was going to drop... I felt for her in that moment. I was under the impression this was her last tournament but I guess she is playing next week?

Good tournament though!

pretty decent coin for winning an LPGA tournament though.

she'll probably never play another professional event. From what I have read, she is a very diversified person and has her hands in a lot of different business ventures. It's a shame though

Wedding is in January, and she's been very upfront about wanting a family.
