why does the lie angle matter?,the ball should be gone by the time the club strikes the ground!no

Problem is, in order to do as you suggest anywhere but the tee you need a custom fit. If I give you a club that is 20 degrees upright do you think you could hit ball first? Since this is all hypothetical hitting such a club gives a clue as to why lie angle matters. Not sure why anyone would want to purposely disregard lie angle, it makes no sense. The golf ball doesn't instantaneously launch, it stays on the face and during that time the club could be contacting the ground.
