Alright guys I have the first practice of my school golf season tomorrow, so I wanted to start a thread (as much for me as anything) to sort of keep track of my progress as the season goes on.

A little background on me and my team. Last season I had the third best scoring average on the team and played as the third seed on the team out of six. My average was 47.2 for 9 holes, which is a score that I now consider very bad. The top player on the team averaged a 41.5 and the number 2 kid averaged 45.8. We got a new freshman who I believe is a 3 handicap, so my goal realistically is to play as the number 3 or maybe even 2 player. I think I can get my average down in the 40-41 range if I play well.

Our home course is a 3000 yard Par 35 with a rating/slope (adjusted for 18 holes) is 69.4/126. It is a quite challenging layout, but having plaued on it so much over the past 3.5 years, I know it very well and think that gives me an advantage over opponents. The most challenging hole I think is #6, a 210 yard, uphill Par 3 that plays about 225-230. There is a ridge in the middle of the green and the back tier is about 1 foot higher than the front. Par is a very good score there. The easiest hole is #7, a 480 yard Par 5 that has a downhill tee shot but then goes back up starting about 300 yards down the fairway. It has a very flat green, so a birdie is easily obtainable.

I don't think our team has a prayer at winning the league or state (there are a couple of VERY good teams to compete with), but I think we have a shot to beat a bunch of teams that we have lost to in past years and finish with a decent record (combined 3-29 past two years I've been on varsity). I'm very excited for this season overall, and am looking to go out with a bang, hopefully leaving my mark on the Blair Academy golf program in my final year.

Best of luck for the season brother. I will follow along so keep us posted as it unfolds.

Psh. No one cares about young lefties like you

Good luck man I'm pulling for you.

Good luck bro! Knowing what I do now, I wish I had been on the golf team in high school instead of being a meat head FB player that made fun of the golfers...

Siri does my posting for me using Tapatalk.

Good luck man. Keep us posted on how you go. Don't focus too hard on the numbers of those around you, just work on yourself and you'll get ahead of them.

Good luck in your studies first and wishing you well out on the course.

Best of luck lad, Dont forget to keep up the hard work in the gym

I wish you luck dude. Not bashing on you guys AT ALL, but I must ask: Are your team's average scores normal in NJ? My local high public school's (I go to charter) best player averages +1 and the next two are both +3, with 4 and 5 never going over a 44 or so... And they aren't that good for our area, maybe a .500 team.

Good luck this season D. Looking forward to reading about your progress

Good Luck Damaikis! how are your matches played? just curious we played 12 hole match play point for the first 6 holes point for the second 6 and a point for over all. so the most you could win in your match was 3 points. Loved playing match play in high school. was a ton of fun!

Good luck, D! Pulling for you, dude!

good luck bud, i'll be looking in the papers for you, could you post a listing of your matches/dates/courses?

Best of luck D! Go get em this year!

Best of luck! Keep us posted on your progress, will be looking forward to following this and seeing how you're getting on.

Thanks for the sentiment guys, it's appreciated.

I'm not sure for public school, but my team is horrible for a private school (hence the record the past two years). The top team in our league has 3 or 4 scratch golfers I think.

We play 9 hole stroke play matches. 6 guys from each team go off (paired in 1&2, 3&4, 5&6) in foursomes with a group from each team. At the end of each match, each team takes their best 5 scores and adds them up to get their total.

Damaikis for the Win!

Damaikis for the Win!

You da man Damaikis! I have a good feeling this will be your stellar year so put the pedal to the medal and kick some butt :deadhorse:. I will be following this thread and rooting you own.

Good luck man!

yeah we did the same set up for pairings and stuff and same amount of guys made "Varsity" just did match play the stroke play is different i liked the match play better but i wasn't as good in high school so i could have a bad hole and still not be out of the match and still try to win points for the team.

I definately wish we did match play. It seems like a fun format. I got jealous watching it this weekend.

Good look D...and have fun. I sure wish I had started golf a lot earlier in life.

Pennsylvania's high school golf season is considered a fall sport - I guess I just assumed that it would be the same elsewhere. Interesting!

Good luck, buddy. I hope it becomes a valuable and memorable experience. Plus, you'll get a ton of course time which is just awesome!

Aim for the short grass and you'll do fine this year! Good Luck!

Good luck D, have fun out there.

Is this really necessary in this thread? I know when I say "not bashing on you at all" or something similar, means the bashing is coming.
