How far do you hit 'em?

I hit the balls forward for the most part, mostly forward.

I really hate when that doesn't happen.

And thats the exact reason I had to learn to slow my swing down. If I try to get after it, I hit it easily over 300 yards. 200 yards straight, 100 yards to the right.

By my math 200 straight and 100 yards to the right is only 224 yards total... Sqrt(5)*100

I wonder how many people gauge their distance off of scorecards? You know, the card says 450 yards so when they're 150 out they think it's a 300 yard drive.

That's a lot of it. They see blue tees listed at 380 but don't notice the tees are moved up two pads or even one. I was guilty of the same thing.

Im still working out my iron distance which is changing as my swing improves. I know with the driver I can hit it 280-300 BUT I know if I try for this distance chances are ill slice it three fairway over with my current swing. So I'm happy to get it 260 yards which is my average I would say. But I hit my 3wood and hybrid shorter but more accurately so I will generally go for them instead. Distance is not everything.

Just bought a RBZ 3 wood with the same shaft as my 5 wood so I reckon the driver could become redundant. I hit the centre of the face with it very rarely.

Had all my distances worked out and had them noted on a spreadsheet last summer. 7 iron was just over 150, with steps of 10 yards up and down. bit of a gap in the bag at the top, but that's preferable to gaps at the bottom for where i play.

Used a Skycaddie to do this - playing in evenings by myself I'd drop a few balls, hit them all with the same club, and then use the GPS to work out distance (mark where I hit from, then walked to middle of where they ended up).

Have had 8-9 lessons over the winter however, and even though my back swing is shortened, I'm turning my hips into the ball more. Countering that is playing in cold weather (with the ball not carrying as far in the cold) and getting virtually zero run.

will be interesting to see how the distances have changed - got a nice day on Sunday (no wind, around 11C) and used an 8 iron on a shot that I'd used a 7 for last season. Carried all the way to the green.

I gauge my driver distances off of lasering the closest thing back to the tee that it can grab. ie water cooler, trash can, and adjust for where the tees are placed in accordance with the object Im lasering.

I dont know how to take off Speed. I just swing. I admire people that can have more control by doing so, but the results for me are quite the opposite with anything less than an 8i in my hands.

The biggest thing I see though with anyone who struggles with the driver is that they swing hard, not fast. My SS is is 120 when I swing fast, and 106 when I swing hard. True story.

We need to bring back the 'outing approved' button for some of these distances.

For the fun of it. All numbers are carry and trackman/nFlight averages

After reading these numbers I'm starting to think I need to re-read that "how to bomb your driver" article again.

My driver SS is 108 and the club head and shaft were chosen based on a "driver only" fitting, and I'd love to hit it as far as some are claiming to be with an off the shelf driver.

I'm by far the shortest hitter of my group. 2 guys bench well north of 300 and their brute strength gets it out there, another buddy has a beautiful swing that rewards him w/ distance....and then there is me.

4 iron and my woods can be maddeningly inconsistent. However, hit the range today and was hitting my driver and 4i dead straight.

I play with a bunch of guys who claim to hit the ball 300+, but without exception they hit about 1 of 20 300 straight enough to be playable, 4 of 20 unplayable, and the rest of the time they barely out-drive my ss 95-100 240-250yds. I'm not saying that to call anybody a liar (I never would without playing with them a lot and knowing them well lol), but to buoy your spirits! Don't feel bad, unless you're extremely strong or athletic or naturally gifted the chances of hitting it that long are very low. Be happy to get better not just longer :)

300 yard average is silly, but to be able to hit it 300yd is nothing special. With that, these are off the tee, for the 3w, 3i, 4...

I hit it as far as the eye can see.

I watched a buddy of mine hit a drive backwards last weekend. That couldn't help the old driving average.

These are approximates. I don't worry too much about distance, I'm focused on GIRs and lowering my number of putts per round.
