2013 Abu Dhabi Championship Thread (Spoilers)

It made sense if it was embedded. Didnt look like a sandy area(grass and vines everywhere) to me.
the hole where tiger took that drop (that ultimately became a penalty) was the second to last hole I watched before I went to sleep. Something seemed fishy about that, how he got a free drop initially out of that. I thought he was going to have to take an unplayable lie, the free drop made no sense

it was a waste area. It was to the right of where the rough around the fairway ended. there was some desert, then that cluster of vines and what not. It was basically a hazard without being labeled a hazard. I don't think you get free relief from a ball plugged in the sand around the green, so I'd imagine you don't get free relief from a ball plugged in sand away frm the green. I thought it was surprising to get free relief in that area, I just figured tiger hit it so far off line that they weren't expecting golf balls to be over there

anyway, from what I saw of rory this week (18 on wednesday, 7 holes yesterday), I actually thought he played better than his score indicated. I thought he didn't play well in 2 areas. I thought he really struggled with his fairway woods and he didn't putt well. And putting I thought he was rolling the ball just fine, but his reads weren't good. Had the speed, just didn't make anything. He did hit his fairway woods poorly I thought and that killed him on the par 5's and hindered him from ever making up any ground. I thought Rory generally played better than Tiger, I thought Tiger looked horrible for 2 days, it looked like he had no idea where the ball was going. It was pretty amazing that he finished how he did and amazing that he was 2 stroke penalty away from making the cut. The way he hit the ball a human professional golfer would not have sniffed the cut line.

However, they are professionals, they KNOW to just get a rules official for clarity. It really is that simple.

Agreed, I've seen them ask officials for even more obvious rulings before, this wouldn't have been out of the ordinary at all.

dufner continues to chug along. 3 under for the tournament.

I agree. Not to mention when they showed a close up, you can see around the divot that there was sand through the grass.

Rex Hoggard took a photo of said imbed. Just looks like loose dirt to me.

It's Abu Dhabi though, its sand every where, you can see through it.

True, but when you see a big green bush like that, desert sand isn't the first thing I think of. What the heck am I doing here usually is haha

haha true. I just don't see how is dones't cross his mind to call over an official, especially when it's somewhere he doesn't play often so it's not like he's familiar with the course.

I mean we're talking about the same guy who asked if a bolder could be moved.

I don't think HSBC are will lose out on much if any revenue as the comps in the UAE are hardly packed with spectators at the best of times

McIlroy misses cut at Abu Dhabi, but Thorbjorn Olesen is right near the top......

I believe Olesen made an equipment change from Titleist to Nike as well, and he's not stuggling out of the gate. So all I gotta say is GET USED TO/GET SHUSED TO and ADJUSTMENT SHMEDJUSTMENT. I'm not anti-Rory at all, but I get BEYOND SICK AND TIRED of hearing talking heads speak about certain Pro Golfers needing time to adapt to new equipment when there's PROOF that others have no problem doing it.

It can be stated that some people trust their clubs more than others and if Thor had been needing a switch he would be more apt to do so, whereas Rory followed the money.

Every players different and go about their things differently.

Rose looking pretty good after 3 rounds, but a pretty competent bunch of guys chasing....have to watch out for Kaymer - the desert specialist!

This thread kinda died out early huh?

Champions tour golf was on when I got up. Starts in half hour though.

Rose just makes putts when it matters. When the putter gets hot, with his ball striking, tough to beat.

Rose is threatening to make this tournament very uninteresting. He's been playing really solid golf for, really, over a year now. Really starting to hit his stride. Poulter's been getting major hype on the heels of the ryder cup, but I think Rose has better odds.

Donaldson and Jaidee have also been playing really good golf to start out the year.

Looks like Rose is playing a ghost Kia Ma! Unless they're going back to red inserts for 2013 but it seemed to have the stamps on the bottom like the Kia Ma Daytona too.

Well done Donaldson! That catapults him up into the top 30 I think....but did you see Howell on 13? Painful.

No, what did Howell do?

Too bad Rose couldn't hold on for victory, still should be a good year for him I think.

A new Nike staffer did almost win. I would be lying if I said I wasn't rooting for the covert.

Rootin for Thor here
