TaylorMade RocketBladez - Review Thread

thanks guys this is prolly the safest and the best bet. the price on ebay really doesnt raise my eyebrows as there are many sets from different sellers asking around 600$ whats strange to me is both sellers ive talked to says they have kbs 90's in the clubs not kbs 90 tours. i thought kbs 90 tours is all they offered any more. am i going crazy here? i also have a 10% off a purchase on ebay and wouldn't have to pay tax.

tequilla- ive hit the stocks there just too light for me. a shaft around 100-110 is what feels best to me. everything about my swing says play the KBS tours,(7i ss is 88-90) but they just feel too heavy to me and im really looking for that higher ball flight.

im in quite the dilemma here guys. Ive made up my mind that the rocketbladez are for sure the head i want. Im having a real difficult time picking out shafts. Ive hit both the KBS tours and the KBS tour 90's. I really like the feel of the 90's even though there not the shaft that has been suggested to me by KBS and a fitter at GG. They both suggested the tours. Another fitter told me i would be fine playing the 90's.

my main goal to acheive from these shafts is a higher ball flight. basically the fitter that told me to play the 90's said putting the tours in these heads wouldnt really make sense if i was looking for that higher ball flight. so as you can see im getting conflicting reports.

the other issue for me is price. basically ive been talking to a few sellers on ebay with very high feeback and many auctions under there belt. they can be had for $600. the issue im running into with the two sellers ive been in contact with is there telling me that the KBS tour 90 isnt a shaft option from taylormade. There saying the KBS 90 is tho. My understanding is that last years KBS 90 shaft is the same as this years KBS tour 90 shaft. they just added tour in there. Ive told this to one of the sellers and he is sure thats not the case. He sounds very knowledgeable and sent me a lengthy email explaining why. heres one of the auctions ive been interested in. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TaylorMade-...70748830733?pt=Golf_Clubs&hash=item56525a340d

my other option for purchase is buy them at my local golf dome. (turning stone casino verona NY) they have an exceptional staff on hand. There price is 799 but it includes a free fitting from a pga professional and a complimentary round on atunyote club. $225 greens fee a few pga tour events on this track etc.

my gut is telling me to suck it up and pay the full 799 and be done with it, but wanted to here what you guys had to say first

I can't give you any truly concrete advise on the shafts. I will say that I played the Tour R flex (110g) last year and moved to the Tour 90 Stiff (~100g) this year. I couldn't be happier with that move. My main concern was that I'd overpower the shaft, but I never feel that way. In fact, my numbers combine to give me some extremely good ball height and carry.

As for the KBS 90's versus the Tour 90's, I've been told by KBS that they are not the same shaft. If memory serves me correctly, the actually sit in between Tour 90's and Tours. Or maybe they sit below Tour 90's. Either way, the KBS 90 S flex is 10 grams lighter than the Tour 90 S flex. How that will affect performance for you, I don't really know.

i should add to this i dont know how much i will get out of the fitting because i already have hit a ton of shafts and talked to a bunch of pros and have come back to the kbs everytime. im stock length and stock grip thats been measured so all thats left is lie angle correct? this is driving me crazy i just want to have a set and be done, but i obviously wanna do this right. Im already spent to much time in the journey to find the right irons to make a mistake.

I think you just answered your own question. Go for the in-person purchase.

ok hawk so i gotta be wrong here then there is a shaft called the KBS 90. whats strange to me its not on the KBS website. for those of you gaming the KBS tour 90's were these and upcharge from taylormade? im also confused now because if i go to taylormadegolf.com there in no mention of anything but the KBS tours.

The KBS 90 is exclusive to TM clubs.

I did take a look and see what you are talking about on their website. To be honest, I don't know why it's that way either. These were ordered as part of a review, so maybe that's a reason? It looks like they do offer Tour 90's in their full catalog, but the tip size they list is .355 rather than .370.

Thanks for the help. I thought I had this all set just get the tour 90's and id be all set. Guess its not this easy

Hahaha. It's never that easy!

Did you try the Tours in the R Flex? I'm not sure I could pick which was which if you handed me both blindfolded.

Man im not sure I hit those.

From what ive been told, Tour R is a step stiffer than the Tour 90 S. Might be worth trying.

Was watching replays from the weekend and noticed Ryan Moore was gaming these withvthe Aerotech steelfiber graphite shafts! Could be a lethal combo..

Tapping away on my S3

My guess is that the KBS 90 is like a "made for" shaft for Taylormade

According to KBS, you're sort of both right...here's their post from the KBS Shafts thread:

"Thanks for the Q. The KBS 90 is a proprietary shaft we make only for TaylorMade Golf. This is a more flexible shaft designed to help players get the ball in the air and increase swing speed. This is a very similar design to the KBS Tour 90 shaft. Both show a gain in distance. This comes from reduced ballooning and higher trajectory for players in the 70-80mph swing speed. The KBS 90 for TaylorMade is more flexible than the Tour 90. Both are fairly flexible, so the difference is small, and we suggest using the same flex when switching back and forth. So if you use the Tour 90 R, use the KBS 90 R as well. Thanks again. -CM"

There are a couple of posts in that thread on this subject, I believe.

Hi everyone. First post on THP and relatively new to Golf.

I have just purchased the Rocketbladez so I thought folks may find it useful to have my feedback as a high handicap player.

I have been playing for about 6 months here in the UK. I have had regular lessons and play once a week with a couple of range sessions when I can. I currently go round in about 105 but improving every round. I currently have a set of Callaway x16 pro irons 1/2" long that I got of eBay and they have been fine as starter clubs but it felt like my swing was consistent enough for a fitting and a better set of irons. I had read a lot of reviews and had convicted myself that I was in for a set of G20/25s.

The fitting: I turned up at my local shop yesterday expecting a new set of G25s to be in my bag later that day. I was measured and swing tested with a RazrX and the measurements came out as 1/2" longer 1 up and regular steel shaft. During the fitting I hit quite a few clubs to compare such as Callaway Razr X, Cobra, AP1s, Cleveland etc and as expected I really liked the Ping G25s. The fitter then suggested almost as an afterthought I try the RocketBladez. He gave me a regular club (TM are slightly longer and more upright than others as I understand). The club was nice to look at at address and I preferred the satin to the G25s darker finnish.

First swing and right away the contact with the ball was sweeter and straighter. I hit 10 good shots in a row with the 7i. They went a bit longer than the Ping 6i I had been using, felt softer and were much more consistent in distance and direction so I was really impressed. I carried on hitting balls and that almost convinced me but I still wanted the Pings as that is what I had intended to buy in the first place. Then I hit the 4i.....wow again straight and long with a lovely snickity sound when you get the sweet spot, perfect flight and I would imagine a soft landing on the green. As a result I now own a brand new set of Rocketbladez 4i - PW. If you haven't tried them you should.

I have not hit them at my club yet but will be playing at the weekend so will let you know how I get on.

Good stuff Edward!

WELCOME to THP!

Nice post, Edward. Good luck on your first outing and we'll be looking forward to hearing how it went.

Nice report, Edward. I really like that you are going about this the right way. Lessons. Getting fitted. Really great stuff. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchases. Be sure to come back and tell us about your experiences with the clubs.

Thanks for this. I feel like I am doing the right things and have set myself quite an ambitious target of a 15 handicap within 18 months! Hope the new irons help, I have a feeling they will.

You can do it, no question. My personal opinion is to understand the importance of shots from 100 yards and in and practice them accordingly (see Dave Pelz' Short Game Bible).

mine is KBS ctaper 90. is it the same shaft u mentioned?

C Tapers and the 90 series are two different things.

Hi Everyone,

New member here. I've been following this thread for a while before joining and have been taking a lot of the info in. You guys have pretty much cemented my decision to upgrade my Burner 2.0s to the Rocketbladez. One of the problems I have is that none of the pro shops near me have the Taylormade Select fit stuff in yet. The nearest place I can find is the Belfry, but that's a couple of hours away. Would you say waiting for the chance to be fitted properly is essential?

Edward where did you get fitted? Bath isn't too far from Bristol

I assume you are talking about being fitted for a shaft? I wouldn't say it is essential, but it wouldn't hurt if it was available. I have found the stock stiff shaft to work very well for me throughout testing and have no intention of looking to swap out the shafts.

Welcome to the site, BristolMike.

I have never hit KBS shafts myself but am aware of their quality from other's reports. I am 100% happy with the stock shafts. If I was going to pay for the clubs myself I would get fitted.
