Am I all alone in thinking that wearing the collar of a polo shirt up makes one look like a dork? I mean, I think it didn't look good in the 80's so I don't think it would be that cool here in the 21st century...

A couple of guys on the Euro tour can pull it off...not for me and for most Americans though...
I dont know, it looked good on Elvis.
Spoiler
A pretty cool shirt.

I don't do it because it bothers me to have something intermittently touching my neck. I probably should for the shade.
The Kid thinks it's cool, despite my efforts to convince him otherwise.
personally, i'd rather pop the collar on a hot sunny day than wear one of those ridiculous dave pelz/bubba watson looking hats.
I have a couple of those and several straw hats that I wear in mid-summer. Come out to the desert and see how fast your fashion sense changes. When the sides of your face start to look like overcooked bacon, those hats start to look a lot better.
yeah that's a good point. i've got a golfing buddy that only wears bucket hats and he swears by them. i just have never been a big fan but would probably use one out of necessity. When your face looks like overcooked bacon, does it smell and taste like it as well? That would be pretty awesome if it did
Claire - if you want the Kid to quit, allow him to Google "Popped Collars" and let him read up. It'll be a real education on how others view him.
If you want to convince him it's not cool, you simply need to resort to wearing yours like that around the house. Simple, but very effective.
Unfortunately, it smells like charred meat and you can almost see the melanoma forming.
I figure in 10 years when most of these people look back they will say "Man I looked really bad like that." Kind of like all those people with the mullets and jorts.
