One question, JB - Are you running Snow Leopard? Everything got faster for me when I upgraded.

Yup. Sure am.

By the way, another issue I had. Making people pay for an "upgrade" that was more fixes than it was upgrade.

At least it was only 30 bucks. I could've seen them marketing it as a whole new OS.

When you switched to snow leopard, did you just pop in the snow leopard disk and let it do its thing?

Very true. To me it was more like Windows with SP's than an OS, but they could have charged 79 I guess.

Yep, just make sure you select "upgrade" instead of doing a clean install.

Will a clean install remove everything off of the computer and just start snow leopard from scratch?

Yes, I believe so. Just as if you are getting a brand new computer.

I did just get a nice copy of the new Office for Mac Beta 6 in that will go nicely with the new MBP 17 coming in tomorrow.

That's one thing I definitely have to do soon. I'm still running Office for Mac circa '06.

They had an 06? I knew about 04 and 08 and i always used 04 because I thought it was better. Their Office software has always stunk in reality. But this is definitely an improvement.

Good call, it is '04! Really all I ever use is Excel, which isn't that bad. The Word and PowerPoint versions are awful though. I always just use InDesign for any of that stuff anyway.

Like JL I have had a 13inch going on 4 years now and have never had any problems with it. I recently installed a windows OS as well so that I can switch between the two when I need to, there are a lot of things out there that just aren't mac compatible (see my review of the OnPar GPS). I love the Mac I only had 1 problem with a flickering screen and Apple replaced the entire screen for no charge, even a couple of other things that I didn't know were going bad. Customer service and quality are my two biggest things to consider when making a purchase and Apple is top notch

JB I get the spinning wheel as well but I usually have about 10-30 windows open when that happens. Need to upgrades my RAM since the most you could get back then was 2gb, this should solve my speed problem.

Good choice esox!

That is another issue I have had with them. Is anytime something is going wrong being told to go see an "Apple Genius". Oh you mean that guy that reminds me of the greasy kid from the Simpsons? That guy that thinks showering is optional, because being called a Genius at a mall store is cool?

And of course if you dont purchase "Apple Care", the Apple warranty alone is pretty bad. And once again, if you dont live near a "Genius", then its not all that convenient.

I got my first Mac about two months ago and I love it!! I wish I would have switched years ago.

I've been using Macs since 1984. I've never had any problems.

Same here, I've been using them for that long as well. We still have some great older models sitting around the office. I love iMacs and MacBook Pros, very reliable. Much more than a new Acer laptop I bought last year and it's already crashed twice and I've had to rebuild.

JB,

We went MAC 5 years ago and love them. Have a Mac Pro as the main studio machine, iMac for trade shows and is my wife's primary computer and have a Mac Book Pro for seminars, web browsing.

I buy all my Mac stuff, including my iPad and iPhone from Mac Specialists. They are a certified Mac repair provider. The Genius at the Apple store often know less than I do.

that's what she said:act-up:

I'm starting to like Mac's now that I am using one at work more, however I don't think I will pony up the big bucks for them

After five years with a 12" I upgraded to a 15". My brother-in-law has the 17" and my lap wasn't big enough so I opted for the 15. :)

It's nice to see someone else has been using Macs for that long. Remember the Mac Superbowl commercial?

Every time I'm in our Mac lab at school, I get a bit overwhelmed. They have 27'' iMacs, I have a 13'' MacBook.

I know it's a bit off topic, but since there are so many Mac users on here, can you please gimme some advice please?

Basically I am looking to get a new laptop, so I am looking to get a 15" MacBook Pro. However my dad keeps telling me buy an iPad. So which one should I go for?

I've already got a laptop already, but just want something else to replace my ancient desktop at home.

Thanks guys!

Both are good devices, but the IPad is not a laptop. And if you want to do any kind of typing of anything of some length, I advise against it. Its an oversize IPod. And for the money, you can get a whole lot more bang for your buck. Like a netbook and an Ipod.
