Golf GPS devices or phone Apps

I'm just not sure about these phone GPS's, never had the best of luck with them.

Just bought GolfShot: GPS - had the free golfshot scorecard before upgrading so hoping the GPS is good. Have iSwing and the R&A's rules of golf.

I used the GolfLogix app on my Blackberry and it worked really well. I switched to a Windows 7 phone and haven't been able to find one to use with my new phone.

What kind of Golf related apps do you have for your smartphones??? I'm curious to see what apps THP'ers have and what they think of them.

I think you will have a ton of answers here. I know there are a bunch of threads on this one.

I use both FreeCaddie and SkyDroid for my Android powered phone. Both are really nice but SkyDroid has a sattelite view for hazard distances and such.

Golf Digest Tips Plus (free)
P. Golf Pro (free)
PGA Tour (free)

Thanks for sharing yours - will look into those as well.

I use the suite of golfshot apps: Golfshot, Golfscape and the lesson plan, they really work well together!

I searched for a thread on this topic and came up empty....

I have/had all those and Golf Week too. Golf Week is just golf tour info. ALL the tours, (sorry but I don't want to follow 16& under junior golf)

Big fan/Absolutly hate Golf DIgest Tips Plus. IT's just way too much info and stuff at my finger tips.

For Golf GPS yardage I use MyCaddie Pro.
My Caddie Pro is FREE but it has some downsides. Specifically this biggest problem is that since it's free you'll probabbly have to "map" your course yourself. But for me, I absolutly LOVE that sh_t. I trust the yardages because I persoanlly put all the markers on Google Maps that the GPS app is reading. Complete how to and all the mapping is done off the companies website so you need internet access too.

I use to use Iswing to record my swings. I liked it because you could do replays at various speeds ansd you can draw lines onto the screen to check stuf like Swing PLane and head movement. However I just use the Camera on my Iphone 4 now and upload the vids onto my computer.

I use Golfshot, Golfplan and ISwing. I use Stracka for my USGA handicap.

Downloaded the new GolfLogix app today for my iphone. Looks very cool. Lots of new features and a new layout. I am a member so I get all of the features that is comes with. I like the new layout. I have not played a round with it yet maybe tomorrow.

I tried "myCaddie Pro" for the iPhone (only one round so far). It's free, and there are no subscription fees. It uses GPS with downloaded google maps, keeps score and statistics. If the course you are going to play isn't already mapped out, you can go online and quickly map it out yourself surprisingly easily. In the process you can define your own markers for layup shots or landmarks you think would be useful.

One feature that I really liked was how it handles layups. You drag with your finger to where you think you want to hit the ball and it shows you the distance to that spot and from that spot to the green, dynamically updating both distances as you move your finger around the screen. Seeing both distances was really helpful, especially when there is a hazard you can play around to one side or the other.

I use the oobgolf app sometimes to input scores, but mostly to see my stats quickly. I have the golfnow app but am not too crazy about it. The PGA Tour and Golf Channel apps get a lot of use. I also have the Tiger Woods PGA Tour app that I got for $0.99 on sale :)

great product and to be honest I really enjoy mapping my courses myself

I've got a couple - Golfshot GPS, Golfplan, SwingPlane, AirVue Golf, smartcard (the old oobgolf app), GolfTape, GolfSwingTempo, Stephen Aumock's Golf Tempo, Golf Channel, & PGA Tour.

My favorite is the GolfSwingTempo by Dragan. It's the only product I've found that uses the 3:1 beat ratio that was always preached by the people at Tour Tempo, at an affordable price. I usually use Golfshot GPS when I play. AirVue Golf had the wrong data for one of the courses I played, once. I'll have to give it a second look.

I like the GPS, but would really prefer a simple scorecard app, tells me the distance to the hole from my current spot and lets me tap a spot on the scorecard everytime someone takes a swing.

What's the best extended battery pack for the iPhone? I know I can play about 24 holes before my phone goes from supercharged to totally dead. Solar powered?? Double A batteries??

Do you use any golf apps for iphone or other mobile device and if so, what do you use or found helpful?
With me not being smart enough for a smart phone of my own I was wondering what was out there and what anyone was having success with.
I am currently using Golfshot GPS works pretty well. I will be beta testing a new app later this month for a 3 month trial. I'll keep you posted.

just a quick update. I played with the new Golf Logix App on my Iphone. I like it much better than the last version. It has some great new features. Maybe Ill do a little review after a few rounds.

my friends dad made an app for golf called "caddies call". i dont use it much because i dont really like GPS but its still a good app

I have golfshot gps for the iPhone. But I see that there is a new version of the oob golf app that includes GPS. Has anyone tried the new oob app? I'd like that as using the old oob app to track score was awesome.

golfshot GPS is nice - its within a few yards of my real GPS. Good scorecard feature but will drain a battery!
I have tried golflogix too its nice as well

I like OOB - so i can enter my scores/clubs hits/putts/ each hole - and get accurate stats for the year.

TapaTalk is fantastic for keepin up with THP!!

Best gps smaryphone app you have used

Best gps smaryphone app you have used

I just got a new android phone last week and downloaded a gps app called frontier golf gps and it worked pretty good. I did notice that when I stood buy a yard marker it gave me a distance 2 yards shorter than the marker. Overall I'm happy with the app but I was wanting to know what gps app you have used or use now and how well you like it. If the app you use is for an iPhone or blackberry that's fine to so people with those phones can try it out and see how they like it. Thanks for any input.

ive tried golf logix and golfshot.

i prefer golfshot - i just used it all last year so im most comfortable with it. i think golf logix has a few more options - but i didnt take the time to familiarize myself with them.
