What Do You Think of The New #1?

I don't know if he's more deserving, but it will be interesting to see how he continues to develop.

It only counts as 2 days in Kaymers world if he sleeps. Sleep during a tournament week is a weakness, Martin is a MACHINE and wouldn't let this happen.

Hahaha. Hmm... not only did he wear it 2 days in a row, he wore it 3 rounds of golf in a row. Maybe it was his lucky sweater... until he lost in it.

Being #1 is not a popularity contest. Lee Westwood earned the title, just because you don't like him dosen't mean it 'aint so. Who ever is the #1 player in the world deserves some respect, its not like Westwood was the only dude to hold the title before winning a major.

And the dickey.

Kevin

Is that what the "neck warmer" is called. I've been wondering that since he sported it.

I foresee Kaymer being at #1 at least through July (British Open), if only because of how the OWGR formula works.
Martin Kaymer World Ranking Details

The last 13 weeks are worth the most points. Events more than 13 weeks old get partial credit. Week 14 worth more than week 15, week 15 is worth more than week 16, etc, down to week 104 (2 years ago).

In Summer 2009 he won The Barclays and French Opens back-2-back. When those roll off, somebody may catch him, if he has a letdown between now and The Open Championship (British).

When looking at his results from 2009. His oldest 15 events were:

I think he had a horrible scarf - neck thing on yesterday.....

Being #1 is not a popularity contest. Lee Westwood earned the title, just because you don't like him dosen't mean it 'aint so. Who ever is the #1 player in the world deserves some respect, its not like Westwood was the only dude to hold the title before winning a major.

Disagree dude. Being #1 in the world, alone, doesn't necessarily demand or even deserve respect. Respect is dependent on other things in my opinion.

With that said, I was fine with Lee being numero uno and I did respect some things about him.

I am even more excited about Kaymer being #1. I enjoy his game, enjoy watching him play and like him more.

I think he is quite deserving and has the game to be there for some time. He is a solid player and I have been expecting him to reach #1 since the end of last year.

He is a deserving no. 1 and I hope he continues to play well.Congrats!

Kaymer seems to have the make-up of a long lived number 1, but lets see how he handles the extreme spotlight.

He seems quite level headed for only 26 years old. He also doesn't seem to spout off much like some other golfers.

I think that Martin Kaymer deserves to be number one.

I agree he is very level headed, I just hope that the constant attention doesn't wear on him and wind up breaking him down. He also seems like a really cool guy.

Certainly more deserving of being #1 one than his predecessor. I like Kaymer. Seems like a good, level headed, calm golfer who won't be up and down week to week.

I love how he talks on camera. Exactly the same controlled dialect and intonation of Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher.

i think kaymer is going to stay for a while but rory will be the best one day

i love to see a new number 1, i feel that in the past people were assumed to stay in the spot without playing, a person shouldnt keep a spot without playing!

Even though I hate to see a European at the top instead of one our guys, Kaymer isn't as boisterous as some of the other Euros.

I think he deserves it. Obviously he's put in the work to get the outcome!!!

By a large margin he deserves to be number one. 6 wins in a calendar year with a major thrown in for good measure. Not sure why LW ever held the title since he only has two wins during the same stretch. The ranking system is so fake it's not funny. I am huge TW fan and he should not have had that ranking as long as he did. Kaymer is deserving of that and more. He will be a great ambassador for the game.

The guy looked like a machine over the weekend. Will crowds in the US ever embrace this guy?

when kaymer beat watson to become #1 in the world, i said that tiger will never be #1 again, i think kaymer has that kind of staying power that westwood didn't, especially since westwood got to #1 in the world while sitting on his couch, so he didn't really earn it in the first place

I'd embrace him. He's got an amazing body. :) Seriously though, he is an amazing player. Tiger wasn't personality+ and we embraced him.
