Think wife and I are hitting Vegas in May for 3 days. Anyone have any suggestions for courses out there? I am not hauling my gear so I need rental stuff and I don't want a 7 hour round. Suggestions?

I played Bali Hai last month, it was nice, well kept, great rentals (Callaway Octane driver and woods and X22 irons) and is right there so you dont waste time driving too far away.

Bali Hai. Awesome course for vegas!

gotta agree bali hai is amazing and on the strip...great club..

I played Desert Pines last year. Although it is a 15 minute cab ride from the strip it is much cheaper than Bali Hai, and you will only spend 40 to cab there and back. The course was in great shape, and the greens were rolled true. It isn't the longest course, 6,800 from the tips, but is certainly challenging. The pace of play was great, and it wasn't packed due to its location. I played in four hours, and the total trip time was four hours and thirty minutes. All in all if your looking for value its the place to go.

The TPC Las Vegas (Canyons) course is one of my favorite desert courses anywhere. Great conditioning and interesting layout.

Take me with you....

Hubby and I like the scenic views and scape of the Bali Hai course

Heading to Vegas in a week and I have played a decent amount in Vegas and your budget is really what determines where to play. Bali Hai is typically $200+ as is Rio Secco. If I was going to spend that much I would play TPC, no question. If you have no budget those are all great choices. If you are looking for a decent track with a little less $$ Badlands is great, Bear Best, Las Vegas National, Desert Pines and Red Rock. There are no shortage of options, I would suggest hitting Trip Advisor as they have many reviews there too. Good luck.

I was at the Wynn Golf Course on Wednesday. I didn't play there but the clubhouse bar and food is great and it overlooks what looks like a beautiful course.

$350 last time I checked to play Wynn. Personally I think Primm Lakes is the best value for out of towners. Fazio course, its about 30-45 min from the strip. Not sure on cab fare or if they offer shuttle service from the casinos. Boulder Creek is nice also, probably similar cab rate from the strip. Paiute is another great course, have 3 courses, all Pete Dye. Cab fare will be about the same as the other places I mentioned. Personally if I was going to spend $200 to play Bali Hai, I would spend that money on the other couses which are cheaper and better and the rest on cab fare to get to them over Bali Hai. Rio Secco IMO is over priced even for our local rates. Badlands is a good, hard course, so if you are a higher index, make sure to play the correct tees as there are a lot of forced carries and if you don't shoot straight you will get in a lot of trouble. TPC Canyons is a good course, Red Rock is a boring course and not worth it unless it is free as there many other courses to play which are the same rate or less and a lot better challenge. Bears Best is a fun course, 18 of his holes from the courses he has built supposed to be similar to those holes. If you want the best course, then Coyote Springs IMO is the best in Vegas under $150, 45 min drive though.

Primm Lakes Course, Badlands, Paiute are my three favorites and in my opinion the best value. Badlands is the only one in technically in Vegas.

Second for Primm Lakes, about an hour south. The other course there was really exposed and it wasn't bad, just nothing to stop the wind. Friend and I played both courses and stayed the night in Primm for about $110 each

+1 paiute

If you're planning on playing a couple of the courses that are about 30-60 minute drive from the strip (which IMO would be better than playing the overpriced Bali Hai), you'd be better off renting a car, the cab cost can be $50+ each way.

I can't say enough good things about Wolf Creek, but again, it's a good hour drive...definitely worth it though (see my review a few months back). I also heard good things about paiute and primm when I was out there.

I've played both Desert Pines and Paiute. I feel that Paiute is heads and shoulders above Desert Pines. I was on Paiute's Sun Mountain course and it was great. Overall, Paiute's facitiies and grounds are top notch.

Paiute is in my top three courses in Vegas in terms of Value for your doller. Downside, you NEED TO RENT A CAR! Its a good 50 mins away from the strip. Plus side: Top Notch Pete Dye course in great conditions for roughly $100 bucks.

BTW: The only other downside is that it can get very windy out there, but May is more of a Hot weather no wind time of year.

Badlands is a great course. Target golf at its best. Bali hai is nice, but a bit pricey.

+1 for Desert Pines, I loved it

I'm heading to Vegas in July. Could take a little look at playing, but I think I might melt out there!

Im heading to Vegas next week and will drive from Bakersfield so i will have a car. Im looking as well for some good courses that will not break the bank and let my sons have a good time. They are not great golfers so I don't want to spend $200 each and them not have a good time. Any recommendations?

Badlands - Target Golf, you won't forget this course. Not when you're missed shots fall off the side of a 50 ft cliff. Its in Vegas and really is 10-20 minutes away depending on traffic.
Paiute - Pete Dye course, great conditions, can get a little windy out there. 45minutes away from the strip.
Primm Lakes Course - Great value, great course, technically in California. hour away from the strip, maybe stop off in primm for a night before you even get to vegas?

I'm going in July too. We're going to play Paiute every morning very early to try to escape the heat. You're welcome to join if you want to.

I played Desert Pines a few weeks ago..... course was in good shape, it's a bit short, there are a ton of bunkers in the fairways to keep a premium on accuracy, and the greens were fast with some tough putts. The wind was brutal...... it was a scramble and 8 under won the thing. They have a pretty good website that shows you a lot about each hole.

The range there is horrible, a double decker with mats and surrounded by tall nets that a lot of people hit over or through (holes). There are a few holes on the course where you'll see a lot of range balls.
