My Previous WITB: WITB 2016 WITB 2017
For 2018 I was blessed to be selected for the Morgan Cup on the 10th anniversary year of THP. As part of being in the MC we received a generous 13 club deal wrapped in one of the nicest lightweight cart bags I've ever owned.
2018 for me is all about One Length. It's something I've played in the past and enjoyed and was leaning toward going back to right before MC entries started. When you think of One Length there are really only three players that make a decent set. Of the three Cobra, in my opinion, is far out pacing the others in technology and style (there isn't a sexier One Length iron out there)
My Makeup for 2018:
Driver: I went with the KING F8 Driver 9° because I like to have a lot of weight in the heal of my drivers. I live to play a straight shot off the tee with a baby draw or fade. Over the years I've found I can control the face angle easier when I have weight towards the heal. Since moving to the F8 at 44.75" I've lost no distance from 2017 bag and I've picked up accuracy overall. Win/Win Shafted with Evenflow Blue 75x
Woods: One thing I'm good at is hitting the ball with little spin, since I like forgiveness over less spin I went with the regular KING F8 to get a bigger head and easier launch. Under pressure it's been the best 3 and 5 wood I've ever used (never had a 5 wood before sooo). Shafted with Evenflow Blue 75x
Hybrid: KING F8 One Length hybrid 19° is something I've been drooling about for a while. I've actually build my own in the past and had some success. I'm probably the WORST hybrid player you have ever seen, for the life of me I can't elevate one to save my life. So far my journey with the F8 One Length Hybrid is young but it hasn't cost me a shot in a round and it's earned my 2 birdies.
Utility Iron: For 2018 Cobra released a One Length version of their spiffy utility iron in black and I jumped all over it. I seen Bryson playing the utility irons as hit 5 and 4 for a while and I wanted one so bad. So far it's exceeded expectations. I can hit it high or low and it stops as well as my previous 4/5 iron. I have it set to 23.5° to gap between the Hybrid and 6 iron. Basically I'm playing a 2i, 4i, 6i if you go by whats on the clubs but it's actually just 4° gaps between clubs.
Irons: Cobra Forged TEC Black One Length irons in 6-GW with TT AMT Tour White. I'm loving these irons so far. I'm all about simplifying my game for 2018 and One Length fit the bill. My previous One Length set sounded like tin cans. This set sounds and feels like a regular forged iron and I'm loving it. So far I'm having consistent distances from all the irons and I'm optimistic about doing well in the 2018 tournaments.
Wedges: KING Forged One Length Wedges are pretty good, I tested the variable length widelow and was in love. For the One Length the V grind was the only option and I'm still on the fence. I'm a guy who likes a lot of bounce and I'm over thinking the less bounce on these while over the ball. More reps will either get me in the right head space or I'll end up just making a hight bounce One Length wedge out of my 56° widelow.
Putter: 35" Anser Style Blade made of copper. I gripped it with a limited edition SS GTR grip and it's been everything it has always been (blade is a blade =)). I tend to go back and forth between this putter and my Spider Tour black.
Ball: Vice Pro is the ball of choice for 2018. It does what I want at a price I want with a color of white I like. I also liked the Cut Gray but that ball is an ugly white.
Accessories: For 2018 I switched to Arccos golf for shot tracking, the integrated sensors in the Cobra grips made it a no brainer. I'm really loving the data I'm getting. I've paired the GPS tracker/app with a Bushnell Tour X2 range finder. I was previously a Leupold users but that X2 is amazing! For tee's Epoch is my tee of choice.
