One week ago today, I played the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas with two good friends of mine. We were in Vegas for our Fantasy Football draft (some how the wives were cool with that), and stayed at the Wynn hotel for the weekend. Now that my liver has fully recovered, I wanted to share my experience and pictures of this amazing golf course. And one more thing, playing golf with a hangover in dry heat is not a good idea... lol.

After we checked in and paid our "once-in-a-lifetime" green fees, we were escorted to the men's locker room which had a nice oakwood theme. There was only one locker with a name on it, and that was the late comedian Danny Gans. I'm guessing he was a member or regular there. We were advised that our caddy, John, was ready for us, and met him outside in the staging area. This was my first round of golf with a caddy so I was quite nervous as I wasn't really sure what to expect. He guided us to a hitting area to warm up, which was basically artificial turf with a screen 75 - 100 ft high and about 30-40 yards in front of you. So really no range there, but kinda understood since it's on the Strip. There was a short game area and putting green behind that screen, but we just wanted to get out to the first tee.

We played from the forward tees at 6,464 yards, and par was 70 (34-36). I won't go into details about every hole, but the first hole kinda caught me off guard. I guess Google Earth didn't do it justice as it was totally downhill from an elevated tee box. Despite the first tee jitters I hit my drive down the middle, and had a downhill lie with 165yds to the pin. My caddy recommended my 150 club (8 iron) which of course I hit thin and flew the green. This is just one of many examples where I rarely had a flat lie on the fairway or around the green, and that combined with a nice hangover was a struggle for the round. The elevated tee boxes especially on par 3's had my distances thrown off, too. It was an ugly front 9 47 (50+ for my friends) so we decided to pound some beers at the turn. Yeah, that only helped me with a 46 on the back... lol. I shot a 93 on probably the toughest course I've ever played, and despite some of the ugly shots we had a great time as our caddy, John, made it light-hearted and entertaining. My good friend, Ryan, also cracked us up as he ditched his rental golf shoes in the back 9 to play in socks (see last pic).

My first caddy experience was awkward & nerve-racking at first, but by the end I realized I can really get used to this pampering & confident advice. My 2nd shot on 18, I was undecided whether to hit 3H or 4i from 190 yds. Our caddy grabs the 3H, and says "I like it! Let's do this, Dan!". I'm thinking Hell yeah I'm gonna knock this on the green bro, and sure enough I did it. I thought that was really cool, and probably the closest I"ll ever get to experience a pro / caddy exchange.

Overall, it was a challenging, fantastic golf course, and despite the dry summer heat I thought the course was in great shape and the greens were very fast. The fairways were bordered with hundreds of trees, and quite narrow on most holes. There were a few dry spots on the fairways, but I think that's expected this time of year. Our caddy said in the winter the course is almost as good & difficult as Augusta National. Once we finished the round, our caddy handed to each one of us a gold plated bag tag with the Wynn GC logo and our names on the back. That was really cool.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics, and get to check out this course someday!!

Very cool man! Isn't it 500 a round? Does that include caddy before tip? I wouldn't mind playing there some day.

$375 + caddy tip. Suggested is $50, but we gave him $75 - $100 each.

I almost talked my self into playing it in June when i was there, but i could do it for what they were asking. My wife was at a conference checking her facebook when she saw me check in at the pro shop. Apparently she was tell ppl all day at her conference that I just dropped 400 on a round of golf. She was so happy to hear that I didnt play it, but i still wonder if i should have. Bet it would have been awesome.

Gotcha.. I wonder if you gamble enough if they will comp with a free round? You may have to coax them a little I guess.

Love the Wynn! Glad you guys had a good time. That's one heck of a draft!

Thanks for the recap. I am heading to Vegas in October and am set to play this course.

You're gonna love it, SMG! Don't party too hard the night before or the course will kick your @$$.

I think SMG is more of a good steak guy and maybe the tables. Not too much partying :D

Very cool pics... thanks for sharing... I stayed at the Wynn a few years ago, loved it... wanted to play that course but didn't

Ah, well in that case check out SW steakhouse at the Wynn. Amazing.

You have me pegged pretty good there Freddie! I will be with the wifey so a great steak place will do the trick. We plan on hitting a number of the shows as well as trying our luck at the tables. She has some road racing driving course set up too, which should be fun.

great pics. looks like you guys had a good time.

my wife held an event for her company's distributors at the Wynn back in the spring of 2011. She tried to convince me to take vacation to come and play but I had too much going on at work and I'm not a Vegas kinda person anyway. She played with 3 other guys from the office and it was her first experience with a caddy. They had a blast. If she has another event like this, I'll go next time esp. if they cover the green fees. :act-up:

OK, first, RIP Danny Gans.....I didn't know he passed.

Second, I watched some million dollar winner take all tournament that was televised a few years ago there and thought it was amazing!

Oh, that second pic over the water makes me drool.

Cool story and an awesome course :thumb: Great pics too!!

course looks sweet man... not sure I could coax myself into dropping all that jack to play though!!! looks like you had fun man!

Oh, that second pic over the water makes me drool.

It was quite stunning at first, but then you think crap I gotta carry all that and makes your knees shake a bit... lol. I pulled a 6i into that left bunker, and two putted for bogey. :bulgy-eyes:

Just returnded from Vega and had the opportunity to play the Wynn Course with fellow THPer TrueFX. We hand an unvbelievable time and everything the OP stated was spot on. The funny thing is TrueFX and I had never met and we set this round up via email and texting. It just so happened we were both in Vegas at the same time.

We arrived adn were greeting by several attendants in the clubhouse/locker room and knew immediately we were in store for something really special. The attendant showed me where to change shoes and the attendant polished my street shoes to have them ready for the end of my round. Now mind you I was wearing sandals. When I finished the round thes andals looked brand new and were waiting in the locker room in a clear plastic bag.

We met our caddie named David who led us throughout the course and provided some invaluable advice and course knowledge. I highly recommend requesting him if you play this course. It was had to believe this beautiful tract of land was in the middle of the strip but playing you dont even realize you are there and could be in any oasis in the country.

TureFx and I play another round at the Revre golf course outside Vegas the next day. This course was beautiful and was located in the mountains with views of the strip. We had a second day of fun and excellent golf.

Here are a few pics:

Glad to read you enjoyed it as well SMG!! Everyone there from the Hotel to Golf Club are first class and treat you great. I can't wait to go back.

I truly was an awesome experience Canes.

Great pictures! I can only dream about playing courses like this. Sounds and looks like you have a great time. Congrats!

I would love to play this course the next time I'm in Vegas. This course is the former Desert Inn golf course and have been revamped by Fazio/Wynn when he bought the land and what was then known as the Desert Inn and Country Club in 2001. It was home to over 35 PGA tour events and Palmer, Snead, Nicklaus all played on the course. While Fazio changed significant parts of the course, you are still walking on history.
