I was watching the latest Euro tournament (Volvo Masters, Club de Golf Valderrama) & marveling at how the top pros were getting themselves out of trouble from the rough.

Do you think the new grooves on irons & wedges will make much of a difference to their play?
 
I do actually. The whole point was to penalize errant tee shots and it should work.
 
i am somewhat familiar with the general concept of the new groove rules, but what exactly are they?
 
Well let me post this question as an add-on?

Given that most professionals do not intend to hit their tee shots into the rough, do you think that the new groove rules will make tournament golf less attractive as a spectacle?

[Note: apparently the smaller grooves make shots from the rough less predictable eg. some shots from the rough may fly the green (etc)]
 
It does not effect the US open ratings when the pros suffer.

agreed... I'm not a fan of the 22 under tournaments.

I like a -1,e, +1 us upen/ british open... they struggle like we do
