Guys,

Apologies for posting my report but unfortunately due to an illness in the family, I've had to be brief today. Hopefully, a more fuller report will follow tomorrow. Today's report is as follows.

The wind was the winner today, with many players struggling with the flat stick in the windy conditions on the hard and fast greens.

South Africa's Tim Clark shares the opening round lead with Australia's Scott Hend. Clark, the world No.43 and who was runner-up in the US Masters two years ago, joined Hend in the lead after 10 holes. Clark's round included eagles on the par five seventh and 10th holes. Hend's round included six birdies and a bogey - in humid, blustery morning conditions.

American drawcard John Daly may not be around for the weekend unless he can bounce back from a four-over-par 76. Three-time winner and 2007 Australian Open champion Craig Parry also scored the same, while Stuart Appleby had a 74.

An approaching thunderstorm brought the afternoon session to a premature end. Play resumes tomorrow. A more fuller report will follow the second round.
