Need some computer help

It never does for me. Just turn off your anitvirus when you are running it then. And don't let it uninstall it, uncheck the box or whatever.

Make sure you are on the registry tab.

Ok, do I need to do anything before I "run" the CCleaner?

just ranting....

FYI - it's always a good idea to run MWBytes in safemode.

also, did you check these two threads?:

program possibly related to BS or Verizon.
and it won't let you delete it, if it is running in the system tray.

in safemode...could try two things:
rename the file, then try to delete.
or take ownership of file and try to delete.

That's true, not as many things starting up. I actually do that when I have a stubborn piece I'm trying to get rid of.

No. Just make sure you back up when it asks (before you remove the entries).

I had a popup like this sometime ago on my old laptop and after about a week of having it pop up I decided to address it. My anti virus (Norton) would not find anything so our tech guy at work told me to just do a system restore back to a date where I didn't have the problem and it worked. The popup was gone and never returned.

Had to get on my phone, made me close my window.

Ok. Its saying it will permanently delete files.

Adobe flash player is one of them, and I don't want that deleted. Over 1800 MBs to be deleted from all of them put together. Don't get anything about a "backing up" when I click run cleaner, just the delete message.

Just want to make sure I do all this right...

Are you sure you are on Registry? Or are you on "Cleaner"?

Registry doesn't come up with all that, it will tell you you have 57 things (or whatever) to remove. Then you can remove all or remove some.

If you are in Cleaner, you should be able to tell it what to look for.

I don't do that one very often; it always deletes all my saved passwords.

Whoops. Was on cleaner.

After you run your Registry Cleaner (Again, not "Cleaner" but "Registrty"), you can click on the Tools tab and clean out your startup items. There are better startup tools out there, but this one is much better than msconfig. You might be surprised at how much stuff you have starting every time your computer starts. A lot of programs automatically set themselves to start when your computer starts, and if you don't need them to, you should turn them off.

The more things start when your computer starts, the slower it's going to run.

Norton is the most gawd awful attempt at an AV ever and this is a perfect example of why.

I have always hated Norton. Just try to uninstall if from your system and you will hate it even more. One of the hardest things I ever removed.

Do I need to save after I disable the things I don't need at start up or does it just automatically save it for me? I see this save to text file but think I need to do that.

also, I don't need to have the malwarebyters/Trojan remover/CCleaner all load at start up either, right?

Run a defrag and reboot and then check it again. Run Malwarebytes again too (run TWO anti spyware programs, none of them catch everything - - -I'll run three of them sometimes). Then defrag and reboot again.

Use Auslogics Defrag.

No, it saves it by itself.

Malwarebytes is still going! 1 hour and 25 minutes so far. 160 thousand objects scanned and 46 infected. Does it usually take this long? I made it scan everything.

Auslogics Bootspeed defrag?

Yeah, Malwarebytes can take a long time, depending on how much stuff you have on your computer. (Not bad stuff, just programs, files, etc). Any of the antispywares can take a while - - -and yes, always do a full system scan.

No, just the defrag. The bootspeed is ok, and I think it's free for a while but then you have to pay for it. I don't use it, just the regular defrag.

Don't forget to empty your recycle bin before you defrag!

Step one: Unplug the computer

Step two: Open Window

Step three: Propel computer out window

Step four: Get a Mac

Step five: Kick down the porn habit a notch or two.

I actually like my Laptop. Got it a few years ago and it has done me no wrong. Its a dell inspiron, one of the older models. But I like it.

Will try to cut back on step 5 though. :act-up:

My Dell lasted me 3yrs and then could barely get up and running.

Step 5 is probably why this thread exists. :D

Well crap. I deleted some of it before I did. But I just deleted all of it while it was doing it. Hopefully it didnt screw it up.

Won't hurt anything, but the stuff in your recycle bin will keep it from defragging as much as it can. Especially if there's anything huge in there.

You had that happen to you then? hehehe
