Masters Predictions by THP

I'm always here to keep you company, Ron. Neither of those 2 make it on to team Euro!

My team is evenly split this week 5 Euro's 5 Americans. I figure if Phil and TW tank it will propel me back to 1st place. Of course if they both do well, I'll crash and burn big time this week

Risk vs Reward :D
Maybe it'll pay off for you

What I found quite suprising was the two guys picking Uhlien (spelling?). Thats probably the darkest darkhorse pick I have ever seen haha

1. Who will win the Masters? Mickelson
2. Give us a darkhorse that will surprise? Camillo
3. Who finishes higher, Tiger or Phil? Phil

Darkhorse: Ryo Ishikawa. The media story would be even bigger than Crenshaw winning it for his mentor or Tiger winning after his father passed.
Tiger or Phil: Vegas has Phil finishing higher than Tiger by A LOT. I'll go with them because they always seem to finish with my money.

1. Who will win the Masters? Mickelson
2. Give us a darkhorse that will surprise? Dustin Johnson
3. Who finishes higher, Tiger or Phil? Lee Westwood

Hmmm. So Phil wins but Westwood finishes higher. I love that math...hehe

He must be a supporter of the Golf Writer's of America Association Poll that says Lee will be better than Phil even if Phil wins the tournament

Thats hilarious!

Clearly he became #1 in the world (very briefly) somehow right?

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are

ok i know it was 7:00 am when i made my picks - but no coffee aside. I still think it was a legitimate pick. Now that i got my round in - i can backup my thought process.

I dont care if you think im off my rocker or not - i submitted my post to contribute to the thread. I know im not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the tour - but i do watch and this is just my opinion.

Darkhorse; as defined by Merriam Webster Online Dictionary.
b : an entrant in a contest that is judged unlikely to succeed

Now - i know he is ranked #1 in the world - but not one show leading up to the masters has included him in their discussions. Atleast any ive seen.
Does anyone here think he'll win it? if not, then that would prove by definition - he is truly a dark horse.

Sportsbook.com - has Kaymer as a +2000 fav to win it
Mickelson +550
Watney +1500
Tiger Woods +800
Lee Westwood +1500
Hunter Mahan +1500

so the #2, #3, #7, #14 and #18 are picked to win over the current #1 in the world.

So i say - the #1 ranking has nothing to do with the winner -

True it wasnt a BIG dark horse - i know i wasn't reaching deep into the lineup trying to pick one. But i think he can be considered a dark horse by definition.

hahaha - it was alot of fun reading the responses between tee boxes today though.
I think deep down JB thinks im crazy as a loon though - im much more calm and collected in person.

Love that Jason K picked Peter Uihlein as a dark horse. Imagine the storyline if that were to happen. I definitely think he has the confidence for it... but does he have the game for it now?

Sheesh I leave the forum for a couple hours and there's 8 pages of reply!

1. Who will win the Masters? Watney
2. Give us a darkhorse that will surprise? See above.
3. Who finishes higher, Tiger or Phil? They tie.

I think its funny that in the article, everyone picked Phil over Tiger. I don't see how you couldn't, unless you take the easy road out like me! Honestly though, I don't think I'll be surprised unless its an amateur that wins the whole thing.

I didn't think this would be that hard
1. Who will win the Masters? Bubba
2. Give us a darkhorse that will surprise? previous winner Zach Johnson
3. Who finishes higher, Tiger or Phil? Tiger

Who wins the Masters? Martin Kaymer
Darkhorse? Anthony Kim
Tiger or Phil? Close one, but going with Tiger.

The nice thing about majors is there is always a surprise contender. Anthony Kim was doing really well last year and seems to have found his swing again, and his putting is what makes him my darkhorse. Remember his putting on the back 9 last year?

Didn't I hear yesterday he missed the cut in something like 2 out of the 3 times he played?

oops i mistyped that i mean to say "majors" he had played well in the previous majors - not the masters :( i suck at this

In a matter of a few pages this went from a really fun topic of conversation to something that just makes me want to do this :banghead:

I honestly never want to hear the word darkhorse mentioned again. Instead let's just have fun and talk about our picks and what we think. Who cares what someone else's definition of a darkhorse is, all that matters is what you think and that you have fun with the questions.

oh man i missed this before i typed out my response this afternoon. Sorry i didnt mean to beat a dead horse hahhaa.

zach johnson +8000 - $1 wins ya $80. hehe i like it :)

Winner: I want to say Watney here. Everything about him tells me he is ready to grab a Major. He just reeks of a letdown though. I want to say DJ also but I'm not sure about his short game or more specifically his chipping and wedge play. In the end I go with AK
Darkhorse: I have to go Phil here. I kid I kid. My darkhorse is going to be Furyk. Not sure he qualifies but he seems to like playing here and he is a great putter
Tiger or Phil: I'm going with Tiger. It's a sickness I think.

We wanted to do something a little different, so we asked our staff writers and forum mods to make some predictions for the Masters. Here are the questions.

1. Who will win the Masters?
2. Give us a darkhorse that will surprise?
3. Who finishes higher, Tiger or Phil?

Well here are the thoughts of everybody.

http://thehackersparadise.com/home/?p=13040

Ryan Moore
Ricky Barnes
Phil

Winner: I'd love to see Luke Donald bust the Par 3 curse, I'll go with that.
Darkhorse: The guy that keeps crossing my mind is Stuart Appleby. He was just barely left out of my fantasy team, so I wouldn't be surprised at all with a top 10.
T/P: I'll say Phil, but I see them both with top 20's.

I'll throw in another category, Disappointment: My pick goes to Hunter Mahan. Great recent history here, great form so far this season, all adds up to way too high expectations. I think this course will be able to expose his shakiness around the greens.
