Exciting Times
I chipped in for a birdie from the fringe last week. I think it depends on the situation more than anything. Putting from 20 yards out? Not going to happen.

On page 26 of the October 2011 GolfDigest, Hank Haney recommends that mid handicappers should putt from the fringe or within 20 yards of the green. He says your worst putt is better than your worst chip.
what do you all think?

from the fringe I putt a lot, but from 20 yards away I'm pulling a wedge or a hybrid. I don't think a putt would turn out so hot on the courses I play.
If you can putt, putt. You have a lot more control when the ball is on the ground. Now if I have more than 10 or more feet of fringe to go through I chip. But I really do believe that if you are not confident in your chipping than putt every time.
Nice test Bgammill, I will try that next time at the club.
I honestly like chipping more than putting. I believe that my short game is one of my strongest points so it's hard for anybody to take a wedge out of my hand and give me a putter instead.
