New LED or Plasma TV

I looked at both plasma and LCD a few years ago and was told at that time that pixel failure made plasma less attractive in the long run, I guess because of the cost to repair the burned out pixels and the fact that can occur after only a limited number of hours. Is that still true or have there been advances in plasma technology or was that ever true? I bought LCD at that time and have been happy with it.

No longer true in most cases but it depends on the manufacturer. Panasonic is typically considered the best because they purchased the Pioneer KURO technology which eliminated this as well and simultaneously came close to perfecting plasma technology.

I have a feeling I will soon be considering a new tv purchase... My 61" Samsung LED DLP makes more terrifying sounds than a sinking ship... Its only 3 years old and still looks great but already fixed it once, under warranty, and had something burn up on it a few months back... Terrible, toxic electrical smell. Read that it was likely one of the un-used inputs...

I'll probably go LED LCD, just based on the power savings which is significant at this size.

Actually that isn't really true and I wanted to let you know prior to you hitting the stores. The difference between the two, even at that size would be about $25 a year (and that is if you turn the backlight off on the LED). Given the price difference, you would need decades to recoup your money.

Choose types solely on your viewing preferences (movies, sports, etc.), viewing angle needs and room brightness. Then after settling on the type, choose based on picture quality and feature set.

I think some of you have already answered this in regards to movie watching, but as far as Blue Ray movies go, still say plasma gets the slight nodd?

Plasma is going to present you with the best movie watching experience.

I don't know man,.. I would go with LED for movies and all around. It will definitely last longer...save you on power consumption.

Haven't bought 'em yet but specs were sent over to the builder; going with the plasma 64 inch Samsung 8000 series and then 2 plasma 43 inch Samsung 440 on either side of the 64 inch. I may never leave the room......ever.

Then for the living room/kitch, going with the Samsung LED 65 inch.

Nate can i ask why you went with Samsung? Also what are the dimensions of the room (the man cave) its going in ? How about audio what are you looking at for that ?

Samsung is just a solid name in the TV world and you know what your getting. Their LCD/LED's are the best in the business. The guy that did our wiring is doing the sound as well. I'll get his proposal on equipment out and get the names he recommended.
