Srixon Z-Star/Z-StarX vs. Titleist ProV1/ProV1x vs Taylormade Pentas

    Hey everyone,
So last year I played the Taylormade Pentas at a charity golf tournament and I thought they were great. But then after I bought a sleeve of Zstarx's and they seemed to perform just as well as the Taylormades and even like a ProV1. I guess my question is how do these balls compare and which is the best value to use?

I found the Penta to spin more and feel softer than the other two but it was the shorter out of the three. The Z Star was the most durable for me.
But I found a better ball thanks to a lot of THPers.

The BStone had better value per dozen (in Australia at least) than the ones you are asking about.

This is a very personal decision for each golfer. You have to play what works best for your game. You may want to see a ball fitting at your local Golftec. If that isn't possible and you just want opinions then I would say the Penta is the best bet. The new ball has hit the market for 2012 and the older models are on sale at most golf retailers.

For me I like the Penta TP5 best. The cover feels less clicky than does the Z-StarX cover for me and I spin the Pro-V1s too much.

I think the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star X are the perfect balls with the exception of the clicky cover. I love how they feel on full and half shots.

Honestly I've tried nearly everything out there and just can't anything I like better than the Penta TP and now TP5 for me.

I do plan to test drive the TP3 soon though just because it is an itch that must be scratched, much like the Nike 20XI balls were last year.

Are you saying the new TP5 is equal to last years Penta TP?

No sir I am saying it is better. It really is softer as they claim. Not sure about longer as I can tell no noticeable difference there. But softer you can tell by dropping a few of each from around 125 yards and hitting them back to back. I have no clue why I am compelled to try the TP3 or any other ball, but I am.
