There are a North and a South courseat Makena Resort. My wife, a non-golfer, is going to ride with me one day to enjoy the scenery. Does the North or South course have better ocean views, if there is any difference?
Thanks,
Pat

The South course has not been open for a number of years. It is apparently undergoing a renovation, but I think it may actually have been shut down due to the economy - that's what a local told me anyways last year. So it's basically the North course open which winds up and down the hillside. Definitely some good views for nice pics, but no holes actually on the ocean. Decent track and fun. Note - some courses on Hawaii will charge a rider fee for a non-golfer coming along.
We go to Maui every winter. Few tips for some golf deals if you are interested:
1) www.golfnow.com You can usually find some good deals on tee times here - sometimes there will be a hot deal as well such as a specific time at a course where the rate is significantly lower.
2) www.ezlinks.com. Another online booking site with deals-look under specials.
3) www.hawaiigolfdeals.com You can buy a card from these guys that gets you discounts. $21 or something now. Unfortunately, they don't have many courses participating like they used to.
Cheers!
Good info! Thank to both!
Am OK with the rider fee if reasonable $20-25 or so.

South course was closed several years.
It was supposed to be a private course with more high end houses around which include membership.
However, due to the market situation, nothing has been done.
So, the north is thr only option to play.
I did play last month, and regarding the condition, it was so so.
Wailea Emerald was better, but some of Makena view was great .
guess i had my info backwards i knew one course was closed at least lol .
