Hi guys im pulling everything straight left there going straight but left. divots are also going well left im sure im coming over the top.

By definition, you are coming over the top. But the "why" part is what I'm after. And the answer to that lies largely in the first part of your takeaway.

When your club is parallel with the ground half way back, your clubface points roughly 30 degrees skyward and the clubhead is behind your backside. That's about 35-40 degrees too open and about 1 foot too far inside. From there, it essentially requires that you swing over the top and flip the face closed to get it to go anywhere near straight.

So your fix isn't just "don't swing over the top"- it's swing the club more outside and more closed on the way back. This will force you to swing less over the top.

Hi Trevor thanks for the reply. since i posted this i have had a couple of lessons and that's pretty much what we have worked on things are definitely going in the right direction.
