Cobra Amp Cell Driver v. Taylormade Drivers

I am on an extremely tight budget and might splurge for the first time this Friday by a picking up my first new driver. I would really like to know the opinions of some of those who are currently using the Cobra Amp Cell driver vs Taylormade drivers. I love the feel of the R1 and the Amp Cell and I am truly crossed. Any help would be great!

Go with an older model since that budget is extremely tight.

I went with the Amp Cell, though I have always been more of a Taylor Made guy. Both are great. In the end, I was just more comfortable with the Cobra.

All I can say is I got fitted professionally for both drivers, and the cobra amp cell gave me the best launch conditions and distance than the R1, which is big for me because I've played taylormade drivers since I started playing seriously. Not only was I hitting an average of 260 yards, it was the first time I was consistently playing a draw. See if you can find a fitter someplace.

I have the Amp Cell and LOVED it after I changed out shafts, but again, that is for MY swing. haven't hit TM much but they have been pretty well like this year. Probably will be a bit pricier.

PM me if your interested in last years Amp Driver.

I previously owned an Amp and liked it. I hit the Amp Cell many times when buying my next driver. I overheard a fitter at my normal shop telling clients the AMP Cell provides the best numbers for the most people of all the clubs they sell, that the face is really hot and he sees more higher smash factors with the Cell than anything else. I bought an R1 because of the total adjustability. I am finding more fairways with the R1 than I ever have. The face does not feel particularly hot to me but the total distance ends up being appropriate for my SS. The Cell did feel hotter off the face to me than the R1. I think they are both very good and it may come down to a distance vs. accuracy type thing for you (over and above normal fitting and trying them to see what you like best type answers). Yes, there are times when I wish I was magically finding that extra 10 or 15 yards. But I sure do like playing from the short stuff and having my misses be in the first cut instead of OB.

I think the tiebreaker for me was the different colors available. Superficial, I know. This was before the R1 Black came out, or at least before I was aware of it.

I hit them all earlier in the year and the amp cell gave me the best combination of limited dispersion and distance.

I hit both at a demo day in the spring i liked them both the amp cell was a few yards longer but R1 had tighter dispersion neither gave much of a gain over my current driver

I had last years' TM Rocketballs driver and had some good reults with it. I tested the new Rocketballs Stage 2 and the R1 in the simulators over the winter and couldn't really get a good result compared to the older Rocketballz (not entirely sure why, and I LOVE me some TM). I was fortunate to win the AMP Cell Masters' Edition here on THP, and after a bit of tinkering with the loft, I am absolutely satisfied with the results I'm seeing. when I put a good swing on the ball, it goes... and goes... and goes... and I get a lot of "damn!" and "oh wow" from the guys I play with regularly. And, it finds the fairway twice as often as my old driver, and my typical miss is closer to the fairway then before.

Just wanted to update everyone and say that I was fortunate enough to finally purchase a driver and I chose to go with the Cobra Amp Cell after about an hour and a half at Edwin Watts with a fitting pro.

When I got my Amp Cell, I walked in dead set on picking up the R1 due to it being marked down to $299 but figured I had time to kill and wanted to try out everything just to make sure I was making the proper investment. Needless to say, the Amp Cell blew every other driver out of the water and I haven't looked back. Hope you love your new investment and it treats you well even though you're a FSU fan,lol jk. If you're ever up in Clemson for a football game or anything let me know. I'd love to get a round in with you and show you around town.

The only way to know what is going to work best is to get out to a Pro Shop or Golf store and test drive some drivers.

As someone else suggested, take a look at some of the 2012/2011 drivers as there are some VERY good deals out there at the moment.

From my point of view I would strongly suggest you test drive the Callaway Razr Fit Xtreme - best driver I have hit in years. Combination of shaft and head just really seems to work for me.
In my idea a7 cart bag.....

Driver - Razr Fit Xtreme 11.5° with Trinity Reg flex shaft
    FW Wood - Razr X Black #4/17°
    Hybrids - 2011 Rescue #3/19° and #4/22°
Irons - RocketBladez 5-SW with Tour 90 Reg flex shafts
    Wedges - Vokey SM4 50° and 60°
    Putter - Ghost Spider 34"
    Golf Ball - e6
