After reading the accounts of what happened, he simply got confused by NY's asinine gun laws. While he is responsible for not fully understanding a regions gun laws before traveling with a firearm, its not exactly like he walked up in a hotel with his gun in his wasteband.

He arrived at the ticket counter and announced he was checking a firearm. He had the firearm in his bad, unloaded, with a loaded magazine in the same bag. Under NY law it is a felony to have a loaded weapon outside your home or business, and the firearm is considered loaded ever if it is unloaded, if the ammunition is nearby.

Pretty freaking retarded law, and a ****** way to get arrested when you are trying to do the right thing.

NY was looking to make an example. They did that with a high profile guy. Way to go New York! *golf clap*

A-holes...

Guns don't kill people. Law abiding NFL players trying to to the right thing kill people*.

and the gun laws just got tougher this past January when Cuomo shoved a gun law down the throats of the legislature. That is for a different thread though.

The one thing I never understand with some of these professional athletes and guns, is how do you lose track of your gun and where it is and what's with it. I know where all my guns are and their ammo, and none of them just mysteriously make it into my suitcase or briefcase and I don't' know it's there!

He didn't lose track of it. He was simply checking his bag, which had a gun in it. Something he has probably done quite a few times. It just so happens that NY considered it loaded, although it was not.

I wasn't referring just about him. But some of the other stories in general. It just seems that they have an entitlement complex in the NFL especially and they sometimes forget the laws of the world apply to everyone!

Female kicker to break NFL gender barrier

When Lauren Silberman shows up at an NFL Regional Scouting Combine for a kicking tryout in New Jersey next month, her leg strength won't be the only facet drawing people's attention. Silberman also will make football history by becoming the first woman to participate in the event.

Silberman, 28, resides in New York City and is a University of Wisconsin graduate who played club soccer at the school. She received a master's degree at MIT and wrote her thesis on how video games can enhance a player's performance. She later founded a consulting company that helps athletes train by using video games. Though her background differs from most competitors, Silberman will take advantage of a relatively new NFL rule focused on gender equity. The NFL approved a guideline in 2012 allowing women to play in the league, and Silberman's appearance at the New Jersey Regional Combine on March 2-3 will be the furthest anyone has taken the rule.

"I think it's fantastic," Jared Silberman, Lauren's father, told FOXSportsWisconsin.com when reached by phone Wednesday. "She's being humble about the whole thing, about her chances and everything. She's surprised there weren't more women that were doing this as of the announcement last year that they could do it. I wish her all the best.

"I think it's wonderful, but I have concerns. I said, 'Lauren, on a kickoff, the guy gets through, you've got to go after him. That's a new dimension here.' But good for her that she's doing it."

Lauren Silberman told NFL.com on Tuesday that she wasn't aware she was the first female participant at a Regional Combine.

"The opportunity to attend this event could not be more exciting," she told NFL.com. "Getting to meet interesting people and perfect my technique from others could not be more rewarding. ... Regardless of the outcome of the tryout, I hope there is a way I can contribute and strengthen the league."

Regional Combines for position players are limited to 240 participants, and the cost is $225. Combines for specialists are $275 and are limited to 40 kickers and 50 punters. Lauren's father said she had no background as a kicker but had made a 40-yard field goal before, which encouraged her to attend the Regional Combine, even if the odds are stacked against her.

"Lauren was a very good soccer player," Jared Silberman said. "She always had a big leg. That's where I think a lot of this is coming from."

Very interesting!

INDIANAPOLIS -- According to multiple reports, the San Francisco 49ers have wrapped up a trade that will put quarterback Alex Smith in a new city. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported via Twitter that the 49ers have sewed up negotiations with a willing trade partner. The interested team is not yet known, though Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com says that from everything he's heard around the scouting combine this week, the Kansas City Chiefs have a deal for Smith that is "all but done."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported on the NFL Network that the Chiefs have the most interest, and that new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is very intrigued with Smith's mobility, but that a deal isn't yet consummated. Rapoport also said on NFL.com that the 49ers will continue to lay the groundwork for a trade that will give Smith to a new NFL team. If the deal is in place, it can't actually take place until the new league year begins on March 12.

Smith, the 49ers' first draft pick in 2005 and the first overall selection that season, went through several subpar seasons before Jim Harbaugh was hired as the team's head coach before the 2011 season. Harbaugh limited Smith's liabilities and accentuated his strengths, and Smith responded with his best season to date that year. He threw 17 touchdown passes and just five interceptions in 2011, and came back with an even stronger campaign in 2012.
Through nine starts, he had a quarterback rating of 104.1, but a concussion suffered in the team's 24-24 tie with the St. Louis Rams on Nov. 11 opened the door for second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick, selected in the second round of the 2011 draft. Kaepernick lit the 49ers' formerly conservative offense up with his deep passing ability and impressive mobility, leading the 49ers to a close loss in Super Bowl XLVII to the Baltimore Ravens.

"I think the main thing is Alex is a heck of a football player," Harbaugh said this week at the combine. "Alex is really playing the best football of his career the last two years. And we think we have the best quarterback situation in the National Football League. Feel strongly about that. Again, that'll be a process that plays out. Alex Smith, continuing to be a 49ers or if a trade occurs in the next weeks or months. Those are the two possibilities -- most-likely possibilities."

Kaepernick is clearly the future of the 49ers, and Smith will be a willing and attractive target for several NFL teams in desperate need of improvement at the quarterback position. With the 2013 draft class coming up short at quarterback, and the Chiefs holding the number-one spot in the draft, a trade for Smith would allow them to select an outstanding offensive or defensive lineman this year.

Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel is most often pointed toward Kansas City in mock drafts that don't include a quarterback by default, but Central Michigan's Eric Fisher and Florida defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd are possibilities with the top spot. A guard has never been selected first overall, but some experts believe that Alabama's Chance Warmack is the best player in this draft class.

Smith is currently signed with the 49ers through the 2014 NFL season. In 2013, he is scheduled to make a base salary of $7.5 million plus a $1 million roster bonus if he's still with the team at the turn of the new league year.

Smith in KC would be a great fit!

Glad it isn't Jacksonville.

That would seem to wrap up the Chiefs taking a left tackle at #1.

Curious to see what becomes of this new heart condition scare with Lotulelei - that could really shake up the top 10.
