    Default Kenny Perry Fires Caddy

End of the PGA Tour line for Scott - Golf - Yahoo! Sports

In a peculiar move, Kenny Perry parted ways last week with longtime caddie Fred Sanders, with whom he has won most of his tournaments. Sanders said Perry has decided to use his son, Justin, the rest of the year— the final three FedEx Cup playoff events, and even the Presidents Cup.

His son played college golf at Western Kentucky and caddied for his father at the British Open, where Perry tied for 52nd without breaking par in any round at Turnberry.

Sanders said he learned of the change through Perry’s agent, even though they worked all week at The Barclays.

Asked about using his son, Perry replied tersely to two reporters, “Guys, I really don’t want to talk about that.”

Perry, who turned 49 last month, has won twice this year, lost in a playoff at the Masters and is No. 5 in the world ranking. He has 14 career victories, and has said one of his ambitious goals is to get to 20.

What a jerk. What did he think reporters were going to ask?

I just do not understand why he did not mention it at or right after the Barclays? Why have his agent call?

+1 - In my mind - That's a classless act. If you want to bring your son on the bag at least communicate that to your caddy up front - set a timetable... treat people how you want to be treated.....

x2. This is akin to breaking up with your girlfriend/boyfriend by having a friend do the deed. I've always liked Kenny Perry, but I've lost respect for him.

I have never been a fan of Perry. I always thought he "liked" himself too much, which seems to be the way a few of these tour players act, and think of themselves. Nothing wrong with putting his own son on the bag, but a real poor way of doing it. No class, and no respect on Perry's part. His dismissed caddy will find another bag.

Obviously Perry could care less what folks think, or write about him.

There's two sides to everything, but given Perry's silent approach, I think we know his side of it already.

I have heard from folks attending events that Perry isn't the sweet gracious guy he pretends to be. He will treat fellow players decently but the public gets scorned.

We mentioned that after Doral. He was not the friendly guy that we see on TV. He reminded me of David Simms from Tin Cup.

Kenny's choke at Augusta was the greatest golf moment of the year. Too bad it gets lost in the other majors, in fact seldom mentioned lately. I was hoping for routine finishes in those majors so the spotlight would be on Kenny's gaffe.

I never bought his act and I turned on him completely in early February 2008, when during a Super Bowl pick for CBS he said he was rooting for New England over the Giants, "To shut up the '72 Dolphins."

That's a litmus test for a simpleton, IMO. That Dolphin team accomplished something unique among 2000 teams that have begun NFL seasons, so naturally they are intensely prideful and don't want a shared spotlight. The unbeaten mark can survive centuries as singular.

Besides, the shut up aspect is comically insincere. The last member of that team will be shut up by mortality within a few decades. Are you telling me the '72 Dolphin haters will then stop rooting for another team to go unbeaten, because there's no one left to shut up?

Actually, giving your kid a few chances to make some easy bag toting cash sounds like a good idea. I'm hardly surprised Kenny Perry botched the application, like that chip shot on 17.

I always thought there was something a little
"weasely" about KP. And once you get him talking about himself....he'll NEVER shut up.

I was sorry to hear how this apparently went down. I have been a Perry fan but if this is true it makes me think less of him. These types of actions require a face to face or at the very least a personal phone call. Also, I wasn’t aware of what appears to be his interaction with the fans. That is also disappointing.

Makes me wonder what really went down. Why not call him up yourself? I bet if KP told the caddie that he wanted to put his son on the bag, the caddie may have been understanding. I'd like to think that I would have been understanding.
