Vegas Strip Charge for Parking - does it change your behavior?

This is horrible. I get it's a business, and they are leaving money out there.

If I have my car in vegas/am using a rental I won't stay there at all.

Not to thread jack the discussion. But, the problem with cabs in Vegas is not that they lack an app. They are more expensive and nickel and dime you to death. Tips, surcharges for fuel and using a credit card or debit card instead of cash. It's ridiculous.

On my last trip out there (December), I took a cab from airport to Ceasar's. Cost was about $35 with tip, etc. I then realized that uber was in Vegas, so I used it for the rest of the trip. Uber from Ceasar's back to airport was about $15. Only trick was that you couldn't be picked up in the regular taxi line. You had to pick up on the other side of the property.

Still -- as long as uber is there, I'll likely not have a car and just uber everywhere. Parking fees for casinos would just solidify that.

You are correct about the taxis being more expensive however you'd be surprised how many tourists especially foreigners who know nothing about Ubër. For the strip, taxis rule. Ubër drivers do not like picking up on the strip. They don't mind dropping off passengers.

Regardless of Ubër or taxis, people will find alternatives to parking at MGM properties when this kicks in.

Making 4-6 business trips to Vegas a year, this probably won't impact me much since I rarely get a rental. However, the echo effect that this will create might in the future. Seems to me like this is the beginning of what the airlines did with charging for bags then on to early boarding, surprised that there isn't a charge for breathing the air they provide in the cabin. I wonder how long it will be before the nickel and dime action on the strip is so common we become numb to it like flying. I also see this quickly becoming the "go to" comp to make patrons feel better about themselves dumping cash into the casinos.

I'm an Uber and taxi guy. Charge away or don't, makes no difference to me.

6/5 blackjack, resort fees and stuff like this is why I never stay at or go to the strip anymore.

I got an email from MGM about their change in parking fees. Rates begin June 6, 2016.

I get to Vegas about 4x/year, sometimes more, and I usually drive. I also usually stay at the Elara, which shares a parking garage with Planet Hollywood. Which is a Ceasar's property. They have the Miracle Mile shopping - and free parking. The moment that the Elara (Hilton Grand Vacation Property) starts charging for parking on a daily basis is the last time I will use that property when I stay in Vegas.

I will say that charging for parking, then taking my money in the many ways that the casinos do, is a little over the top.

I will be paying attention to this - I am sure that there will be significant backlash from locals, probably enough to warrant some change in policy.

I've often thought, as a Ceasars or MGM Gulfstream 5 lands at our facility, man, those places must be really going through hard times financially!!!

Locals with a valid Nevada drivers license will have free parking until Dec. 29, 2016. What's REALLY going to suck now is leaving the parking garages after a big event. It's bad now without being charged for parking, can you imagine leaving and sitting in line forever as one car at a time has to pay...this is going to be fun to watch.

Dave, if you think Ceasar's won't jump on the bandwagon of charging for parking, you're in for a shock. Once people start parking at the casinos with free parking, the casinos will see that they're packed to capacity every night and then realize they're sitting on a goldmine.

Paying for parking and those 'resort fees' are freaking scams!

I know they will, it's just a matter of time. However, I wonder how many casinos are going to lose local business because of the parking issue.

Good for you. I always drive or have a rental car so this sucks. They already charge plenty of money.

The other shoe has dropped.

Caesars Entertainment Parking Policy

As a local, all of the Strip properties just lost my business. It may not be much in their eyes, but I won't be the only one no longer patronizing the resorts on the strip. MGM forced many people to park at the free parking resorts such as Caesars since June and I can tell you it's been a nightmare. Leaving resorts with free parking after a show on the weekends can take up to 1 hour.

It may be awhile before we see what impact the locals will have on the strip.

Any idea what self parking is going to cost?

MGM will charge $10/24 hours so they say.

Nothing yet from Caesars, but they won't start charging locals till sometime in early 2017. I'll reach out to my friend Dave who has been reporting about the parking fees and ask him.

It's tough, when we lived in Chicago, paying for parking everywhere was just part of the cost of driving downtown. Parking meters up to 4 bucks an hour, and that was still cheaper than garages. Here in Cleveland, it's much cheaper to park, even in a garage. 10 bucks a day doesn't sound bad, but when you're going from free to that, I can see why the locals are up in arms over it. There are no other options to park by the strip either.

meh, it seems like we have to pay for parking everywhere we go anyways, won't make a difference for my next trip to Vegas

Hell even as a non-local that just sucks for everyone. My wife and I frequent Vegas and have pondered moving there so this will make things interesting. Sucks all the way around.

They're just warming people up for when they get an NFL team, that charges $50 for parking.

There are plenty of quality casinos off the strip. Living here is great because, well you know...golf. The parking shouldn't deter you from moving here. People aren't moving out of Vegas because of it, besides, I know a great real estate agent in town.

nope not at all. Being gold thru mlife gives me free valet and I don't go anywhere near a CET property.
Cosmo, TI, Wynn and the Trop still have free parking.

Where does it stop? Are they going to charge us to use the bathrooms?
