I'm playing in a 2 man scramble next weekend, but the rules are a bit different.
1. can only play 3 clubs/person, and 1 has to be a putter.
2. you cannot use your partners clubs.

So we've kinda picked these, but will do a practice round to test;

Me: driver/8 iron/putter
Partner: 5 wood/7iron/putter

What would you use? Any suggestions?

Drop the 7 or 8 and get a wedge.

I would think that between the two of you it would be best to have a driver or 3 wood, a long iron, a mid/short iron, and a wedge. Split them up by who is best with each.

That's what I was thinking but I figured I would have too much of a gap between clubs for myself.
But Ya, that could work for my partner.
We're doing our 1st practice round on Sunday, so can give it a try.

Swyped while swerving on my S6 edge

Depends on your skill sets. If one of you is good off the tee and the other around the green load up on the clubs that are your strengths and play tee to green that way.

I would drop the putters for one of you to be able to add an extra club, i would do something like this:
You: Driver, 7I or 8I, putter
Him: 5 wood or 5I, 56*, and a putter

The Op said a putter has to be one of the clubs
