Any of you have problems with your stance widening gradually?

I've been having trouble lately with shifting my weight during my swing.

It cost me a lot of power.
I was reading a post and Blugold told someone to hit with their feet together.

After trying that, my regular stance was all messed up

It occurred to me that my stance had slowly widened.

After correcting my width, and making a full turn, I have gained a few yards, and aim is a lot better.

Something else that creeps in is, my grip going weak.
The season starts with a 2 knuckle grip.
Toward the end of season, it's neutral no knuckle grip.

Just wanted to get this out there as a reminder.
I have added it to my checklist, for when things go wrong.

It's one of the many things I notice going awry in my swing.

Are you looking to correct this or just stating what has happened to you?

Just stating what happened.
I hope it might help some others.
It snuck in, and I didn't even notice it.

Freddy,
What is the proper way to find your ideal width???
I may be too narrow, now.

Thanks,
Jack

Two weekends I ago I was part of a team of 4 in our big year end club tourney. Our team captain is a darn good golfer, 2HC, and he mentioned that my swing was too narrow. I'm 6'4" and said my weight shift was good but I was so narrow the weight really had no where to go.

I've spent the last week working on a wider stance and it has been helping with accuracy and a few extra yards.

I recently started warming up by standing with both feet together and putting a full swing on a 7 iron. I noticed that my distance was the same as my regular stance, meaning I'm not using enough leg/feet/ground to generate more power (I assume so anyways) hoping this new wider stance helps out.

Thanks for that info, Foreonfour.
I widened my stance until it messed with my turn.
Then I narrowed back just a little.

yes I have this issue sometimes, especially on the driver, have to make a conscious effort at address to make sure stand is more narrow.

Shoulder width is usually the standard for width. This can be just outside, right in or just inside the shoulders. You should be able to get into an athletic stance and hold your balance with a normal swing.

Thanks Freddie!!!!

Right now, my heels are inside my shoulders.
The arches of my feet are shoulder width apart.

I feel like I turn better, and it doesn't put a strain on my back when I make a full turn.

My accuracy is better, and I haved stopped hitting fat and thin shots.
We'll see how this works.
I'm sure another problem will pop up in a few weeks.

Thanks again.

Freddy could confirm this but as your stance gets wider it also limits or makes it hard for your hips to rotate.

But to answer your question, yes earlier in the year my swing coach told me that my stance should be shoulder width for most swings and I was much wider than that. Since then, I've keep it shoulder with except for some wedge shots.

You are correct, too wide can cause problems with weight shift and hip turn.

Digging this up but it helped me a lot.

Realized my stance was way too wide, it was a gradual creep there as that's what I was comfortable with from baseball(~150% shoulder width). Narrowing to shoulder width allows me to shift weight better and maintain balance that the wider stance restricted, since no matter how much I shift towards the target I'd never get my weight over the front foot.
