A lot of the younger members here probably have no idea who he was, so let's just say he is a legend in the news industry.

Good night Mr. Cronkite.

Sad sad news. A fixture for the US for decades.

That is too bad. Watched him often when there was only four or five channels.

And two of those were UHF where you needed tinfoil, clothespins, Crisco, a racquetball and two goats to get a fuzzy signal if you could get the knob to stay put in between two clicks.

Remember laughing, telling the person who was adjusting it that they had to STAY RIGHT THERE! for the rest of the show? Because if you let go, the picture was messed up again!

These kids today just don't realize . . .

Are you kidding? They didn't even understand when I said "knob."

Remember the first remote controls? The ones with the big buttons that looked like the buttons on old blenders? They activated a motor that manually turned the knob and made that "kah-klung, kah-klung, kah-klung" sound as the knob turned.

The world has lost a true Great.

RIP Mr. Cronkite; and that's the way it was

The first one I saw had two buttons. It only changed channels up, and didn't control volume. You could turn the TV on and off though.
