Walter Hagen Apparel Review

The latest offering in golf shorts by Walter Hagen will provide a golfer with a traditional look without sacrificing some of the technological elements required to stay cool and comfortable in the heat of the summer.  Pictured in this particular spotlight are the Charcoal Heather, Black, and Khaki, however additional offerings (High Rise Heather, Khaki heather, and Dress blue) are available.

From Walter Hagen

Stylish and innovative, the Walter Hagen® Perfect 11 Shorts will become a staple in your wardrobe. Hydro-Dri™ moisture wicking technology keeps comfortable, while four-way stretch fabrication encourages a full range of motion for maximum results. The signature gripper waistband keeps these golf bottoms securely in place, and the waterproof pocketing on back welt pockets keeps your electronics and scorecards dry in inclement weather.

Material

Golfers will find a fabric that has a subtle stretch (advertised as a “four way stretch material”) that presents as being well constructed and not overly thin.  This type of material does move well without much noise, however because it is not terribly thin, there will be some nice structure to the overall wear presentation.  Walter Hagen’s trademarked “Hydro-Dri” technology is built into the shorts to provide moisture wicking to stay cool during the days where sweat is present.

Key Features

The first key feature of the Walter Hagen 11 Majors shorts is the signature gripper stretch waistband.  A rubberized element running in a singular line around the waist area, as well as the signature Walter Hagen logo that will actively work against the shirt sliding out of a tucked status.

A feature more traditional to the Walter Hagen 11 Majors shorts is the hook and bar and zip fly closure.  It provides a tailored look to the shorts without the stress of an external button, which creates what would appear to be a stronger connection.  The zip fly is a very standard length and pulls well.

The front pockets feature a zig-zag pattern with seemingly durable material, including a ‘tee’ pocket on the right side.  The back pockets incorporate waterproof pocketing in order to keep valuables dry, which is an excellent idea considering the amount of sitting involved in golf and the activities around the game itself.  Additionally, the back pocket includes a button for those who prefer to keep valuables safe.

Overall Fit

Not unlike the look of the shorts, the fit will be more along the traditional lines which include a slightly higher than knee sit with lots of room for motion in the inseam.  The waist size also appears to have a relatively aggressive sizing, unlike some of the other common short brands leaning towards a looser sizing chart with stretch.

Parting Thoughts

The Walter Hagen 11 Majors Shorts will accommodate a large portion of the golfing population, with the design leaning towards that more traditional look known well, with the potential for interest from the more tech savvy based largely in the moisture wicking construction.  With elements like the back pockets deterring moisture and the preventative untucking measures that have been taken, these shorts will meet the ever increasing expectations of today’s golfer.
