Surprise mid-year releases are something that always churn a lot of excitement in the equipment world, and for 2024 Callaway has already shown us they are willing to listen to consumers when it comes to bringing Tour designs to the masses if the buzz is loud enough. Recently, it was the introduction of the new Paradym Ai Smoke MAX TD driver, but now following the buzz and trends on Tour, Callaway is officially back in the mini driver game.
2024 Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Ti 340 Mini Driver
The mini driver is certainly a bit of an enigma when it comes to how it is both perceived and received. Over the years, there have been moments in time where its popularity swelled, only to fall off again, recently though the support behind the concept has hit a fever pitch among amateurs, but especially on Tour. You see, as fairway woods and players have gotten longer, the 3W has become utilized off the tee more, and off the deck less.
It is for that reason that the mini driver has found perhaps its most solid footing ever, and for Callaway, that means it is the perfect time to officially re-enter that segment. Now, of utmost importance here is understanding that just because they are jumping back into the mini driver market, it does not mean that this clubhead hasn’t undergone the high level of R&D which we expect from any Callaway release.
This clubhead is all about maximizing playability as a secondary tee club, it is not intended as a driver replacement, but rather a supplement. Of course that means there is an emphasis on distance, but for Callaway the bigger key is a higher launch with more spin than a driver off the tee to allow for softer landings on those tee shots where accuracy is critical. The Ti 340 Mini is 340cc and has a stock playing length of 43.75”, which is considerably shorter than the driver.
Construction wise, this is a titanium body with a carbon fiber crown to help optimize the internal weight placement of the clubhead. Due to the smaller size, there is not a forged carbon application like with the drivers, but it does feature Callaway’s Ai Smart Face technology which uses micro-deflections to create multiple sweet spots. Additionally, there is a moveable front/back weight system which uses a 4g and 12g setup that in combination with the opti-fit adapter ensures a wide range of fitting potential. According to Callaway, all of these features make this the most accurate and playable mini driver on the market.

I think its about 20 yards
I really wish i got the 13.5 i keep wishing it would go 5-10 yards less lol
Im similar i see 250-280 for the mini 270-300 for driver
Its about a 20 yard gap for me
Ive also been consistently choking down about a inch im thinking about cutting it off at this point but i do like to use the full thing on draw holes
Needed this club 2 times off the tee in yesterday’s round. Really enjoy having a shorter tee option as each of those 2 times, hazards were right in my driver range.
I’m finding it forgiving enough to continue to use it and certainly more forgiving than the 3W play I used to go with. Yesterday, I hit one pretty far out on the toe and was expecting nothing out of it, but pleasantly surprised I was within ~10 yards give or take of my typical yardage.
The Ai Smoke Ti 340 Mini Driver has been the biggest surprise addition to my bag this year. It took the place of my Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 3w, which was firmly in my bag and the best 3w I have played.
Driver has always been the most difficult club for me to hit the bag going back to when I was a junior golfer. While I have made strides in my fairways hit and penalties off the tee, I don’t have the consistency I want, so 3w has always been an important club in my bag and one I use often off the tee.
I’ve tried mini drivers in the past and never been impressed. While I am still prone to my misses with it, the 340 Mini has been a reliable fairway finder. I don’t think it’s longer or lower spinning than my 3w, but it’s more forgiving with the larger head, the misses aren’t as penal, and it gives me more confidence. On my home course, I use it off the tee more than any other club and could put driver in the bag and not sacrifice much.
I’ve had this in the bag now for a few weeks and it’s honestly one of the best clubs I’ve ever used. It took a bit to get used to how to hit it and where I should or shouldn’t hit it but honestly, lately with the way I’ve been hitting driver it’s been such a great club to have in the bag. It’s almost at the point where I’m considering removing the driver from the bag completely and relying on this. The ONLY reason I haven’t yet is my home course has one tee shot in particular that has about 185 yards carry over water and a lot of room right so I know even a bad driver swing will keep me out of trouble. I’ve actually got the 13 degree cranked up to the max loft in the draw setting and I’m consistently seeing 220 yard total which is honestly probably about my average with driver when I’m hitting it straight and probably longer than my average at the moment. As a high handicapper this is working out for me really really well.
I’ve loved this club so far this year. It’s typically about 10 yards less than my regular driver (Smoke Max), but the last few weeks I’ve been struggling again with driver. Per shot scope my mini is 2 yards longer on PAVG and 14 yards longer on the actual Avg. On top of that, im hitting 12% more FIRs with it. I’ve been using it a lot more lately just because I’ve been struggling with my driver and it’s been such a weapon that I’ve been able to still shoot good scores when normally that would have detailed a round.
Overall throughout the year the mini has been about 10-15 yards short of the regular driver which is why I bought it. My home course has a lot of sharp dog legs and water that are in the normal driver landing zone. It still fits that perfectly but it’s been getting more use lately and it’s been fun.

I couldn’t write a better review of the Ti 340 Max Mini Driver if I wrote it myself so I won’t.
It’s been a great addition to my bag as I have a couple of holes on the course that I play that is just a little too short for a driver and more of a 3w off the tee holes.
And since I’ve established that, why hit 3w off the tee, hit a Mini!?!
I’m getting closer to 20% more FIRs for the year with it and almost DOUBLE THE STROKES GAINED OFF THE TEE.

The Mini has been a game changer for me as well. It’s replaced a 3w, which I loved. The Mini is just easier to hit off the tee.
I have grown a pretty robust sample size at this juncture. For me, the Mini is in no way a driver replacement. According to Shot Scope, I hit 63% of the fairways with driver and 60% with the Mini. On best swings, my driver is up to 30 yards longer. The Performance Average indicates a 10 yard difference, but the holes where I most frequently hit my Mini have elevated tee boxes, so I think the real difference is about 15 to 20 yards. Given the slightly better accuracy and the longer distance, I am normally going to hit driver, if I have the choice.
The Mini expands my options off the tee. There are a couple of holes where I play most of my golf where driver distance puts me smack dab into trouble, but the Mini keeps me safe. With the loft difference (I play the 13.5*), I can launch the Mini higher and get it up over some trees on a dog leg on one hole on my home course. Finally, I can more reliably turn the mini driver right to left than I can my driver.
All of this simply gives me more options off the tee with the Mini in my bag. It definitely has helped me shoot better scores. I have absolutely no plans to replace it for 2025.
Almost bought one of these today to compare against my BRNR mini. If they had the right shaft it would have came home with me
With the end of the year coming up, here’s how my stats broke down between mini and driver:

This club is having a bit of a resurgence with me. It’s starting to come around as a viable option off the tee when driver isn’t directionally as good as I want it to be. Hit it a bunch in my last few rounds and the results have been excellent, with plenty of distance on the dry fairways we have locally right now. Distances have been solid with the longest ones being just about as good as my driver. Since I’ve only been carrying 13 clubs this one is back in the bag full time.
My consistency with it has me pondering cutting down my driver a touch as well.

Is there thought that maybe it just replaces the driver all together?

I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of driver altogether, but on most courses I play I could absolutely leave it in the parking lot and have no issues.

Was just curious with the thought of getting almost the same distance, but seemingly better control.

The upper limit is still higher with my driver, and when it’s on the need for the 340 is significantly less, so it stays. I’d love to get back to a point where I can effectively play a 3W on longer par 5s, but that’s just not my game right now so I have room for essentially two drivers. If I ever get back there I’ll have some decisions to make for sure.

I definitely understand the 3W aspect. I’ve mentioned it around before, it’s right up there as the least hit club in my bag. I am not 100% sure which way we’re going to go but I get what you’re saying 100%
Been thinking of other places I really want to get reps in with this club… I need to play a course that is tight or a place where hitting fairways/Accuracy is a must or close to it. These are courses I typically don’t like to play because I like to swing away with driver and I don’t play well at them either. So I am hoping next year to be able to play a a course like that and test out a Mini driver only tee game.

This is why I have a mini, to lay up short.
Looks like these are back in stock.
Today’s round illustrates perfectly the importance of this mini driver to my scoring. I played Wolf Creek in Mesquite, NV. From the blue tees, it is rated 71.8, with a 144 slope. It is not a long track, but placement of the tee shots is crucial to scoring. I hit mini 5 times off the tee. I placed every tee shot where I needed it and was two under on those 5 holes. I was only hitting driver ok, but the mini was a weapon.
I have had this in play a couple rounds but don’t play it often. I think I’m going to use an upcoming lesson to learn how to hit a consistent fade and see if this can be set up to be that fade option off the tee.
The accuracy off the tee of this driver can’t be overstated. I’ve always been a slicer of the ball when I get messy. Even with a good drive it’s generally a strong fade. The result is lots of misses right. Last few rounds I’ve ditched driver and used the mini pretty much exclusively off the tee. According to arccos my last two rounds have been my best since tracking for accuracy off the tee with 14 fairways hit both rounds. The one that missed was still fine both times. I’m actually not losing much distance to my normal drives because of the shot shapes. Im sure if I can get my driver going straight I’d gain distance but as I am right now it makes little sense to take the driver when it’s the same distance and in trouble.
