As Fall approaches, our favorite apparel companies are beginning to roll out their late-Summer and Fall collections. We all know that this season can offer both sweltering and bone-chilling days for golf and having the right apparel choices can make the difference between an enjoyable day and one we’d rather forget. Original Penguin is sometimes best known for their unique styling that is distinctive among its peers, but it’s also important to know that their apparel is built to perform in all kinds of conditions. We had a chance to sample their upcoming Summer/Fall 2024 line and came away impressed with what we saw.
2024 Original Penguin – Men’s Polos

We mentioned Original Penguin’s distinctive designs, and nothing illustrates that quite like their polos. From the beginning, the company has delivered styles that stand out from the crowd. At the same time, they’ve still managed to retain a level of class, and that’s not easy to do. The All-Over Pete and 19th Hole Conversational Polos ($80) do a great job of visually proving our point. Both are fun designs but could still be worn at any club in the world.

All-Over Pete, pictured above in Amparo Blue, doesn’t require much of an explanation. Pete the Penguin covers the deep blue background in a way that we just love. It went to the front of the line in our closet almost immediately and garnered several compliments from playing partners, friends, and family. Due to its focus on cocktails, the 19th Hole Conversational polo is a bit more adult in nature, but still manages to hold on to some classic stylishness.
Both polos are constructed of 30% recycled polyester and have a great, smooth feel to the touch. The collars are lightly structured, but still soft enough to impart a relaxed feel around the neck. The moisture wicking material was perfect for a round of golf in the high 80’s and the stretchy fabric gave us plenty of room to swing a golf club. We’d classify the fit as slightly more on the athletic side, but nowhere near approaching a typical “Euro” cut. The sleeves are just a bit more form fitting, and the shoulders give a great squared-off look. For the most part, you should be able to order your normal size, though if you teeter between sizes, or are trying to conceal a 19th Hole mid-section, we’d suggest trying a size larger.
2024 Original Penguin – Bottoms

We’ve said it many times on the THP Forums, but it’s worth repeating here. Original Penguin makes our favorite pants. Period. Fit and style preferences are unique to each of us, so take it with a grain of salt, but the company knows how to make great looking, feeling, and fitting pants. They somehow manage to be form fitting enough to look modern and athletic, but at the same time provide more than enough stretch and space to comfortably play golf. Truth be told, we wear them to the office or in social settings more than we do the golf course, which says quite a bit about how we feel about them.
For Fall 2024, Original Penguin is releasing Lightweight Performance Joggers ($90). It took a moment to realize they were joggers, as all but the cuffs around the ankles are exactly like the pants we’ve come to know and enjoy in recent years. Constructed of 4-way stretch material that includes recycled polyester, they are lightweight and incredibly smooth to the touch. If joggers aren’t your style, the company has plenty of conventional options as well, but we believe many people will find these joggers a great fit.
2024 Original Penguin Cold Weather Gear

Like it or not, for most of North America, cool weather is going to be here soon. Original Penguin has a couple items that might just make your first cold Fall morning a little more manageable. The Insulated Full-Zip Mixed Media Jacket ($140), in Black Iris, is a piece of outerwear unlike just about anything other companies are putting out.

At first, we actually thought this was a down jacket because of the way it felt both light and incredibly warm at the same time. Its outer shell is both windproof and water resistant. The quilting and Primaloft insulation definitely tricked us at first. Either way, it’s an option that will be perfect (depending on your tolerance to cold) for days well into late October and November. Still, it stays lightweight and stretchy enough to accommodate the movement needed to play effective golf. This is a simple, yet fantastic, cool weather garment that will be noticed everywhere you go. Original Penguin has made this piece just a bit larger to accommodate layering, so you should be able to order your normal size and play comfortably.

Finally, for the bravest among us – those that will play golf whenever it is allowed, Original Penguin has a pair of pants that might just make your season. The Thermal Trousers ($105) are unlike any pants we’ve personally worn. With a fit and feel reminiscent of the rest of Original Penguin’s line (in other words – great), these fleece-lined pants are insanely warm. The picture above shows the fleece lining that runs from the waistband to the leg openings. It’s as soft as it looks and provides a barrier to the elements that most of us haven’t experienced on a golf course. While these pants carry a slightly higher cost, and you may not wear them often, we are thrilled to have them in the closet and think many of you will be too.

Those fleece-lined pants have my attention. Those would be great for a crisp October morning round.
I like the 19th hole polo ???
I have a few items from Penguin and like them fairly well. Pretty comfortable and wash up well. Seems like if you wait a couple of months it will be half price on certain sales days.
I agree with @Tywithay, the pants look pretty cool. I have enough step and repeat polos currently, so nothing is catching my interest there
My favorite brand for golf pants and I might need to grab a pair of the fleece lined, for those colder weather trips.

The fleece lined have my attention since I play year round here in TN. Once I can get away from work and get the website to load, I am going to need to take a look.

You always have a few trips each year where you’re freezing. They are stout pants and will 100% make a difference.

As someone who plays into November here in the Northeast, they have my attention too.

Absolutely. That polo is amazing.
For the fleece lined pants, I have a few pairs that I wear (not golfing, but you know…Minnesota) and they are all tighter on the thighs especially for me. It’s like they make the pants and then add in that 1/8th to 1/4 inch or whatever all around and I’m losing just enough leg space for them to not feel great. @Hawk while they felt like the originals, were they a bit tighter than you would have expected? Are they pants that added fleece to it, or fleece lined pants that were designed for golfing? I’m not sure I would love the former if it was almost an after market type addition to take their regular pants and put a lining in them.
Have always liked their pants but that 19th hole polo is pretty sweet. You mention more athletic and less Euro cut but I have found their shirts to fit a bit shall we say snug? Has that changed?

They are 100% golf pants, with the built in 4 way stretch. Not really tighter imo, but I think they will always feel a little more constricting than normal pants just because they are thicker and less pliable if that makes sense.

I think an athletic fit will always be a little more form fitting than a standard cut, but I didn’t feel like these were unusually small or tight for their size.
This stuff looks great, and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen out of the Penguin outwear I got late last year, need to check out some of their bottom/jogger options!
Love the polos, and always love the Penguin logo.
This collection looks great, although for most of it I would have no use. 🙁

I bet, looks fantastic in photos, can only imagine in person.
Digging the all over Pete polo!
Have multiple shirts, but none of the pants. Are the shorts of similar quality and fit? If so, may finally pull the trigger on some of those next restock. I’ve had some in my cart off and on but never have ordered any.
Good stuff, @Hawk. That first blue polo looks good.

I’ve only had one pair of their shorts. I think it was an older line an wasn’t fully a tech material. Nice fit for sure. Trended skinnier.
I’ll also say that while it didn’t photograph that well (and I didn’t have a stock image), the Thermal zip up is a KILLER piece that I cannot wait to wear. It’s much dressier than a hoodie or zip up, but not quite as stuffy as a sweater. I’ll wear that thing everywhere once it gets cold enough.
I want that blue penguin repeating logo pattern polo, that jacket, and the thermal pants…looks like they are sold out of my size on the pants though.
Nice write up, I need to try some of their pants for the coming fall based on the rave reviews.
