Tying the new APEX Utility Series together is a club which has been in development for years from Callaway Golf. As we have continued to see more and more Apex iron releases, the question among some consumers had shifted to if perhaps Callaway had gotten out of the utility iron game.
Well, to my fellow long-iron crazies out there, you can now relax as the newest Apex UT is here, and it is most definitely Callaway Golf flexing their innovative muscles for all to see.

Callaway Utility Series – Apex UT

First things first, one glance at the images of this UT release should capture the attention of golfers who prefer these types of clubs at the top of their bags. Sure, at setup, the Apex UT looks to stay true to the past with a shaping, topline, and offset that will appeal to the better ball-strikers out there. However, away from address, there is a lot going on.
In fact, the new UT irons feature a six-piece construction which comes straight from the brains of Callaway’s innovation team. More specifically though, the UT is a showcase on their studies about deflection in irons and how to better use that within clubhead design in order to improve and optimize speed as well as consistency.

At their core, the Apex UT is a Forged Hollow Body Construction which uses a multi-piece design to create a more solid impact feel/sound while also keeping the responsiveness and feedback which more demanding golfers prefer. However, to capture the feedback of a cavity back while maintaining the playability of a hollow construction, more design firepower was needed.
First, Ai Face designs have now made their way to the Apex UT, and more specifically, this face is specifically for the needs and demands of golfers who prefer utility irons. Yes, shot shaping is part of the equation, but so too is the ability to control trajectory while also maximizing speed without sacrificing spin-consistency.

The biggest design feature, however, is FLEXCORE. This is Callaway’s most advanced multi-material construction yet as it promotes more face flex than ever before in this type of design. That flex/deflection means more speed, but FLEXCORE has also unlocked the face of the club from the sole, which means there is also an increase in playability laterally that Callaway has not managed in previous UT’s.
The Details
There will be little surprise that within the new Utility Series, Callaway is tailoring the Apex UT to the better and stronger player. This design is all about precision and speed, as well as providing a more piercing tee alternative for those who need such a thing. Honestly, when combined with the Apex UW and Apex Ti Super Hybrid, the Apex UT rounds things out to make sure there is something for every player and skill type.
Callway is pairing the new Apex UT with either the Mitsubishi MMT (R, S, X) or the True Temper Dynamic Gold DG MID 115 (R, S, X) and finishing things off with the Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip. The new UT will be offered in 18, 20, 22, and 24 degree heads with LH being offered in the 18 (custom only) and 20 degree options.
The Apex UT is priced at $299.99 with pre-sales coming on 9/5/25 and will officially be at retail on 11/7/25. For more information visit their website callawaygolf.com.

Might have to be good and wait for some feedback.

See my feedback above from my fitting earlier in the week.
I’ll be posting some more as soon as I can but I have tweaked my back and currently resting it – my 2025 Apex UT 18 degree is here, still in the wrapper and ready to get used.
I promised myself last season was the end of the utility irons for me but with the lofts up to 24 degrees I can see a real scenario as a 4 or 5 iron for my upcoming bag.
Got one of these beauties in 20 degrees. I had an open spot. No reason to not take the chance. I tested the club strictly off the deck while passing a kidney stone. This was when I started to have less pain ?
Ventus black 9-Tx is what I tested and what I went with. So easy to elevate and keep low.
Maybe the most difficult shot to pull off was with this club this week. Deep fairway bunker off the tee (drove thru the fairway because driver wasn’t missing)
Needed distance to keep up with the brute I was playing. Took the 20 degree UT in the bunker so I didn’t starfish the face of the redacted. Perfect strike from a level sand lie and the prettiest highest draw that went around 220 yards to the fairway for a short pitch into the par 5. I’m gonna have fun learning the lofted Utility
Knew you’d love it, and knew that combination of head and shaft was going to be a beast !
Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it when you get back home, and of course all about the new-new.
Edit: On the new-new – when of course the embargo is lifted….. not when you get home.

How would you compare hitting the UT vs a long iron?

Higher launch. More ball speed depending on the actual long iron design. The largest difference is likely appearance.
Most long irons especially in the game
Improvement irons have large offset.
I get more spin from long irons

I have an Apex Ai 200 4i in the bag now, but am intrigued with the UT. Nothing wrong with the Ai 200, just something to try.

I would bet they are similar. I’ll snap a pic for the thread vs the 250 5 iron when I get home.

Part of me wants wants to go UW and UT in the bag. Still figuring out the details there. @4hourrule made me realize a UW 100% should be in there. Seeing the UT photos during the GD thread mercy lol.

The UW is definitely staying in the bag–it’s such a versatile club. The UT just sounds fun.
