In a Masters that was filled with thoughts on the rules of golf, at the end of the day, Adam Scott won his 1st major championship in a tremendous way to kick off the 2013 major season. It took a playoff with Angel Cabrera, but Scott, the first Aussie to win the green jacket, played beautiful golf for 4 rounds throughout the tournament. Sadly, it will not be the entire story from the 2013 Masters. Between the youngest player in Masters history, Tianland Guan, being penalized for slow play, and the Tiger Woods “fiasco”, this is one tournament with shared headlines.
For those that missed the “drop heard round the world”, Tiger Woods was penalized on Saturday Morning before his round for an action deemed inappropriate that took place on Friday. Outcries from “he should be DQ’d” to “he is Tiger Woods, and they did not see it, so he should get nothing” were the talk of the golf world during the early part of the weekend that saw Tiger go from being right in the thick of things to struggling a bit with the putter on the weekend rounds.
Sunday saw Jason Day, Adam Scott, Angel Cabrera, Brandt Snedeker and quite a few others (including Woods) make a run for the title, and when it came to the back nine it was still a tournament that could be had by any number of players. Day, Scott and Cabrera were all with in one stroke of each other heading into the final hole, and when the dust settled, there was a playoff between Cabrera and Scott.
The raining was coming down, the drama was unfolding before our eyes and on the 2nd hole of the playoff (hole 10), both men were on the green with good looks at birdie. Cabrera putt first and missed by what looked to be less than an inch and when the big Aussie stood over the putt, he took one deep breath and then drained the birdie putt to win the 2013 Masters.
Two courageous champions going head to head to win the historic title. Will this propel Adam Scott into the dominant player many have expected him to be? Let us know your thoughts on it below.
Good win and he will probably win another at some point but he will never be dominant.
great win by Scott. I think he will win another major or 2 in the next few years, he will be a household name, but will never be a favorite unless he fixes his putting.
I do think that Scott will win a few majors in his career. Dominant? Probably not. But he has the talent and now the momentum to propel him forward.
I think this will propel him to new heights. I see multiple majors in his future. He came very close last year and closed it out this year.
With His swing, personality, game and caddie he should
Win a few more and start realizing his true potential. He is not a flash in the pan type champion.
I think he gets two more in his time, everything in his game is made for the big moments but the putting, get a couple weeks where that falls in line and he’s there.
I hope he wins more, I really do.
This could definitely be getting the proverbial money off the back for Adam Scott. There is zero doubt that he has the overall game to contend week in/out but this likely gives him the confidence needed as well.
Solid victory and well earned both in the shots made and the composure he exuded with everything on the line.
One would hope this is the start of good things for Adam, but since 2008 there have been 17 majors and only one multiple winner (McIlroy).
I hope this is the start of a good run for him though.
Great win by Adam, I know he will continue being a great player and probably win another major or even a couple but I still think his streaky putting will hold him back from ever being dominant.
He’s been trending the right way for over a year now, especially at Augusta. I don’t think he becomes dominant, but I do believe he is entering his prime and will be in this situation a few more times before all is said and done. He took the memories of Lytham and slammed them shut with that first putt on 18 in regulation. Tee to green, there isn’t many better. His weakness has been and always will be the flat stick. I’m not sure he is built to contend in U.S. Opens or even win one, but I can see him winning the other three, possibly multiple times at The Open or Augusta.
I was looking for a “WITB” for Adam Scott like there is typically posted right after every tournament is done. Any chance I’m missing it somewhere or can that be added to this story?
As an Australian this was the highlight of my golfing life. I sweated over every shot the last 2 hours and couldn’t be happier for Adam Scott.
Long overdue for my country and well deserved for a player that has endured heartbreak just over 12 months ago at the 2012 British Open.
