As most of the readers of The Hackers Paradise know, I have a golf shoe addiction. I love them. They are lined up with the rest of my golf gear and I find myself staring at them during the day. Do I have a problem? Yes, I believe I do. But not one that I am willing to get any help for at this stage. I love golf shoes in all shapes and colors. From the extreme classic saddle look to the sneaker style, I love them all. Golf shoes fall into a few categories for me and those are Style, Performance, Comfort, and Budget. Very few pairs of shoes fall into more than one category and only a select few pairs fell into more than two categories. But the more of the Adidas line THP gets to try, the more we are really enjoying them.
Here is what Adidas has to say about the shoe.
Adidas Golf has introduced the POWERBAND 2.0, the latest addition to the POWERBAND family. Completely re-engineered, the shoe’s outsole design features three distinct zones for maximum energy transfer during the load phase, impact and finish. Like the original model, POWERBAND 2.0 was designed to mine untapped power in the lower body by providing a more solid platform and deliver that power back into the ball at impact. An all-new POWERBAND CHASSIS featuring power geometry adds stability during the load phase, promoting a quick and powerful move through impact and a full-finish swing. The outsole’s lateral side incorporates a sharper edge to prevent power leaks, while the medial side utilizes a rounded edge to allow for complete follow-through.
“Stability in a golf shoe must be optimized,” said Dave Ortley, Global Senior Director of Footwear for adidas Golf. “Too much, and a golfer can get locked-in at address, feeling stuck and unable to swing freely. Too little, and balance and support are sacrificed hampering both power and ball-striking consistency. Our focus with POWERBAND 2.0 was engineering outsole shapes that would allow for a smooth and powerful transfer of weight and energy at every stage of the golfswing, freeing the player to swing-away with greater confidence, improved freedom, and unsurpassed power.”
After seeing the Powerband 2.0’s at the show, I was eager to try them out and Adidas was kind enough to send them over in styles for both men and women. When we opened the box I was a little disappointed. Not because I did not like the shoe however, just because I thought the ladies’ shoe was gorgeous. I wish the men’s version had the same color scheme for me so that I could add another color to my shoe closet. Light blue should not be just for the women, but enough about my obsessive shoe needs. Both shoes as you can see by the pictures above are quite striking. Simple enough, yet sophisticated with the clearly marked “three bar logo”.
Both myself and Golfer Gal put them on and felt immediate comfort. Similar to the other Adidas pairs we have tried on, the shoes run true to size and fit perfectly. We found ourselves walking around the office that day with them on and remarking at just how comfy they were. Being that mine were white with black I knew that they could go with just about any outfit that I threw at them. Golfer Gal got to have a lot more fun picking out things that would match them perfectly. What can I say, I have a problem, but your golf shoes should match your outfit! That is my rule and I am sticking to it.
That weekend we got the opportunity to go to the range and hit some balls. Both of us loved both the look and the comfort we were getting from the new Adidas Powerband 2.0’s. So much so that I swore they were helping my ball striking. Yes, most at the range that day laughed at me, but I still say they did. I felt as though with these shoes on I found it easier to have the proper weight shift that I have been struggling with. Other shoes have never hindered this of course, but I felt as though this shoe made it easier. I am sure it was a mental thing, but the great Yogi Berra once said “Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical”. I believe the same holds true for this crazy game of golf. Although Golfer Gal did not have the same epiphany, she really liked the shoes quite a bit.
Over the next few days we got quite a few rounds in and never had a single issue with the Powerbands. In fact we both got quite a few compliments on them. Even though there is a whole lot going on with the technical aspects of the performance of this shoe, the simplistic look is something that has been missing for a while. We were both pretty hooked and were pretty excited about putting this review together.
Overall, both of us really liked the Adidas Powerband 2.0 golf shoes a lot. They packed performance, style, and comfort into a golf shoe with a MSRP of $140. That is not something that this reviewer has seen done a whole lot in the past. The women’s version are available in the color scheme above as well as a white and silver pair. The men’s version is available in the model shown above as well as 3 other color schemes including a white, black, and gold pair that is gorgeous.
