It seems impossible to think of Ireland and not think of golf. The island’s hold on our imaginations is incredibly strong, and in many ways golf, like Guinness, is synonymous with the Emerald Isle. While the reality is that the game didn’t really take hold there until the mid 1800’s, Irish golf still feels incredibly ancient to those of us in North America. Still, with all its history and lore, Irish golf equipment is surprisingly scarce. Master Clubmaker and teaching professional Peter Doyle of Kilkenny is doing his best to change that with his precision milled Aidhm Putters.
Aidhm (pronounced I-Am) isn’t a new brand to THP’s readers. In August 2020, when we last spoke to Doyle, we discussed the newly released K Series putter with 4Core Technology. Recently, we had a chance to reconnect and discuss his two latest models that we’ve been testing, the R Series 2.0 and the S Series with 4Core Technology.
R Series 2.0
The R Series blade was Aidhm’s first foray into putter making. Neatly milled and adorned, it was a standard plumber’s neck blade that proved the company could produce a high-quality, milled putter. The 2.0 version shows some design changes and refinements, but Doyle was quick to note that the sample we received isn’t necessarily the final version. While the model we tested has the same plumber’s neck as the first-generation putter, there is a strong chance the final version consumers see will be tweaked (with something like a flow neck, for example) to further differentiate it.
Like all Aidhm putters, the R Series 2.0 is a one-piece, 5-Axis CNC-milled 1020 Carbon Steel head with a double-coated black finish. The finish is incredibly well done, and it contrasts beautifully with the green, gold, and white paintfill.
It seems that every time we look at the R Series 2.0 we discover another unique design element. Doyle shared that the Celtic Trinity Knot on the center of the sole represents his three children. Each Aidhm putter is named after one of them, with the K, R, and S matching the first letter of each of their names. Two more small knots are milled into the bumpers, just above four green dots.
When asked about the unique gear-teeth design of the flange, Doyle shared, “I’m an engineer by trade and my first job was working for a company that manufactured parts for the wire industry with a lot of bending machines, gears, and traditional tooling, so (the gear design) meant a lot to me. It doesn’t affect the performance as such. It was just that we wanted it to look, in some way, authentic.”
The R Series 2.0’s shaft has the same double-coated, black finish as the head, which is another design element Aidhm has incorporated into the entire line of putter offerings. Coupled with a company-designed oversized grip, the entire package screams premium. Doyle noted that the stag’s head displayed on the grip is his family’s crest.
S Series
The S Series is an expansion on Aidhm’s K Series putter, and similarly, features the 4Core technology Doyle believes sets his putters apart from any others on the market. This 400g double-wide blade is also 5-Axis CNC milled 1020 Carbon steel with a black, double-coated finish. This is an increasingly popular style of putter, as it nicely bridges the gap between true blades and mallets, and we suspect it will quickly become one of Aidhm’s most popular putters. With a perfectly rounded flange, the S Series manages to seem large enough to offer stability and forgiveness without feeling bulky. The 400g head is noticeably heavier than the R Series blade, which almost seems to encourage a smoother, more precise putting stroke.
While the S series shares the gear-tooth flange design seen on Aidmn putters, it’s aesthetically unique, both in head shape and in the way it’s decorated. The sole prominently features the 4Core technology, but surrounding that are three sets of intricate Celtic knots. This combination nicely bridges the gap between modern technology and the Irish lineage Doyle is so proud of.
4Core technology is the centerpiece of the S Series and the reason Doyle believes his putters perform at such a high level. Underneath the red, stainless-steel screws on the sole are small cavities filled with polymer. The original concept behind 4Core was to improve feel via the polymer absorbing vibrations. We can say, unequivocally, that it accomplishes this task very well, especially when combined with the bi-directional face milling. The S Series is exceptionally soft feeling and sounding and is a true joy to putt with.
Doyle believes 4Core provides other benefits as well. The redistribution of weight enhances the putter’s MOI and, in some ways, appears to impact the ability of the putter to mitigate the golf ball’s tendency to skip after impact.
He expands, “All the putters have been tested on the Quintic Ball Roll Ball System and the results are superb. Even against other mainstream brands, our putters were found to be more accurate, have less backspin and sidespin. Even on off center putts, our putters are still extremely consistent.”
Doyle provided two videos for comparison to illustrate this. First, we see a limited edition, high-end putter from a well known company.
Next, an Aidhm putter, which clearly displays an almost immediate forward roll.
Adding to the impressive amount of technology, The S Series incorporates a very useful alignment system, also called 4Core. While we understand some may find this to be a little busy, we found a couple benefits to the system. First, aligning the face square seemed quite simple. More impressive though was how aligning the four red dots perfectly indicates the putter is at a proper lie angle. This interesting addition to the putter seems minor but provided immediate positive benefit in terms of dispersion and quality of contact.
Like the R Series 2.0, the S Series is finished with a black, double-coated shaft and the same oversized grip that rivals the stock grip on any putter we’ve tried. It is also well worth noting how much we loved that both putters came with high-quality, magnetic closure headcovers that further display Aidhm’s Irish heritage.

400g weight kinda caught me off guard. Seems really heavy.
Nice looking putters. I wouldn’t mind rolling the one with the weights. Hard to drop that kind of coin on an unknown though. Maybe at some point if my gamer gives me a reason.
The polymer insert is interesting. Seems pretty unique in the putter space.

There is a lot thrown in these, but they do have a pretty polished overall look.
The feel is unique, but good from the way that insert is done.
Really enjoyed reading about the next generation.
Thanks for the write up. I enjoyed reading it. I like the looks of the gear teeth design on the flange of the blade, different but somewhat distinctive.
I like the look of the putters and the alignment aid sounds very helpful. However, if the club isn’t fit to the right lie angle, getting the red dots to align might lead to an uncomfortable feeling putter stance.
I compare the alignment aid to Tour Edge’s lock on alignment and if you try to align their double alignment with a slightly “off” lie angle, it leads to an uncomfortable hand position in the putting stance
Lot going on but I don’t mind the R series at all.

Definitely agree with that. The owner, Peter Doyle, has an impressive fitting certification resume, and the company does offer custom specs on all their putters. If one were unsure on exact specs it would be worth the time to talk to him. Very responsive and friendly person in my experience.
Great Write-Up Ryan. I do think there is a lot going on, but they packaged it in a way that isn’t off-putting, at least to me.
The videos about the forward-roll were kinda crazy.
I didn’t realize the whole ball skip was that big of a deal – makes sense that it would be, I just didn’t know that it really happened unless you swung pretty hard. Also feels pretty heavy, at least with the weights we’ve been seeing recently on here.
Great write up though, never heard of them before @Hawk and now I feel educated.

Agreed. I wonder how much is the polymer behind the face?
(noting that all the robot tests look good for a new product across all OEMs…)
I love seeing something a little different like this as options for folks. I just wish I could roll one a little and try it out before dropping $400.
It’s a little busy to my eye, but I’ve been a fan of polymer behind the face putters like Nike and Yes in the past, so that part intrigues me.
If I wasn’t committed to the Frontline Elite this year, I’d 100% be playing the S Series. Feel is all personal preference, but feel-wise, I’m not sure I can point to anything that’s “softer” in the milled putter universe that I’ve experienced. Very stable through the stroke, nice roll, I love the hosel. I know the weight stands out on paper, but it doesn’t feel heavy to me. Just very stable and smooth.
Funny, because I never really picked up on the “busy” thing, but I can now see where those comments come from. I’m more a shape and hosel guy I think. That being said, I did find the alignment features useful. I’m going to liken this to Seemore, but I don’t want it to be misconstrued as me comparing the actual alignment aids. The comparison is that I felt like after I spent time with the S series, I came out a better putter (and that’s carried over to other putters as well). I discovered 1) that I wasn’t setting up correctly and 2) my natural inclination is to aim right of target. I’ve been trying to figure the latter item out for a while now.
At first glance there is a LOT going on, overall though, I am super interested in these putters.
The face milling and the polymer dampening have me genuinely curious.
Great write up!
400g head weight is a lot.

Is the S Series designed more for a straight back straight through putting style?

I won’t pretend to know. I’m sorry, but that’s just not my area of expertise and I haven’t seen any info providing that information. The shaft has no offset and there is a single bend . I have a slight arc in my stroke if that helps.
I have the original adhim putter. I think it is amount the very best feeling putters out there. They shape just wasn’t for me. I think these models are much cleaner.

Thanks. Yeah I was reading your review and checking out their website and didn’t see anything on that. Thanks for the response!
Had not heard of them till reading through the article. The heavy head fits for me pretty well, and I do like the general aesthetic of the S series. I’m not a huge fan of the alignment setup as I’m a fan of the naked look for my own putting. I’d be most curious to hear the sound off the face with the polymer filling the cavities.
Thanks for the write up @Hawk
that S model is a good looking putter.

I’m glad somebody that’s tried one can confirm my feelings on the feel. If soft is your thing, you probably won’t find softer. Hell, the blade feels great too, even without the 4Core.
I refuse to accept the pronunciation of this brand, but I really enjoyed the read.

Me too, and I simply cannot accept how they say it’s said. ?
Lot of good stuff here. Nice write up Hawk. The pic from top shows the red dots. Much like the see more putter you are to line up those red dots for proper alignment. Have to give thought here, love my current putter but putter life in my bag is 2 years or less and we’re at 2 years. Ha
I remember seeing these on here a few years ago and thinking they really looked good and they still do. I’d love to try one but I don’t know that any putter will get me away from my Agera.
Aidhm (pronounced I-Am). I like (aid-m) myself.
Great showcase of these putters! I like the look.
They are heavy, but I did play with someone who played the heaviest putter he could find. He was a fan of the Texas wedge and preferred the weight for various long putt situations plus the stability the extra weight offered.
Funny thing about the weight, and I mentioned this in another thread recently, is I tend to see less of a tendency to blow the ball by the hole as the putter gets heavier. I think it mitigates the times when I just a little jerky and try to muscle the putter through. My initial expectation was that the heavier putter would cause me to hit the ball harder/farther.
“Aidhm” very intrigued  Nice writeup Hawk. Definitely like the design
I asked them on Facebook if they offer custom colors. Hopefully they replay. I think these would look even better blacked out.
As a fellow Irishman, I am intrigued by the K model. I’ll keep ’em in mind in the future.
Pretty busy at address but still intrigues me, especially the milling. Would demo them for sure if I could.
That S Series is a really cool looking putter. I love the details he puts into his designs – the gear teeth, the Celtic Knots, etc. Surprised that the price on these putters is competitive with a lot of other non-boutique major brands.
Amazing putter. The styling and concept is unique and it blows me away. I bought the R series and it produced the most true roll compared to my other putters. The weight is just right for me. I’m getting the S series mallet as the line of sight is slightly longer. Peter Doyle, the creator is amazing individual who is able to fulfill your customization specifications.
Such a nice freaking putter. It’s got softness in spades. Had a nice time rolling it today, though the greens were quite shaggy. November golf in the Midwest – hard to complain too much.

I love the way their putters feel
Also that first picture from @Hawk is fantastic
Love the looks just wish there was a way to try without buying one first. Any comparisons in feel or combinations to what’s out currently?

I just don’t have any for you. I’m sorry – just don’t have anything milled that’s all that new. To me, it’s as soft or softer than just about anything I’ve ever used, including some high end Bettis, TP Mills, Scotty’s, Giannini, etc.
