Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show. Hosted by Dan Edwards each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today THP Staff Writer James Miles joins the show to talk about equipment, coaching golf and more.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but we take a deep dive into what it is like testing golf equipment for a living and how a company like Tour Edge pushes boundaries. This show has a lot going on and it is an episode you will not want to miss as James Miles Goes Off Course.
Episode 37 is here and Dan and his guest James Miles discuss the following topics.
Being a High School Coach
Writing About and Testing Equipment
Tour Edge Bringing High Tech
And so much more

I don’t understand, or necessarily believe, his trepidation.
You must! That silky swing was made for bladezzzz
What?! I didn’t get that far I guess. Effing in-laws need to go to bed!
I think it was somewhere around the 40:00 – 41:00 mark.
Yeah, I didn’t get there. I had to go low-key for a bit after the hair bet stare, and then turn it off about 10 minutes later when she threw a fit about some boxes, and asked if the guy on there was the one whose wife hates all his boxes…. It seemed like a no-win scenario to continue in present company.
And then I ran away to go golfing.
I have been busy all day and I am just now getting to this.
typically it’s a Friday morning drive to work listen. Happy we still got a New Years release.
haha what wife actually likes all our boxes?!
You’re mixing poutine and hard liquor again, aren’t you.
Actually yes. Had some poutine with dinner and am deep into the mules tonight.
I read you like a book.
poutine.. yum..
The way I tell it, told it (thanks for that post the other day @Jman ), is that she’s the only one that has a problem with it. She’s irrational, and all other wives support husbands, clubs, AND boxes. It was the only defensible position I had one particular day, and I’ve had to stick with it.
I used to remind her that buying new boxes to ship clubs adds up, but she pretty much in the tough **** camp on that at this point.
Wife: What’s with all these boxes?!
Golfer: You must be new here.
And going for 250…
Im glad you enjoyed it brotherman!
hahaha, you guys are a trip.
Haha, I love all the doubt! It’s fuel!
All comes down to numbers for me, if I can elevate them and they gap well enough, I’ve got no qualms giving them a run.
How much of the appeal is for your coaching? I can see that once you learn the story behind OL for you, then you would be in a better place to help your new players if they would be a good candidate for OL. Having that personal knowledge would certainly help you as a coach.
None honestly. It’s purely the story, and my never ending desire to know more about things with first hand experience
Hahaha, FACTS!
I get that. It’s how I feel about playing PTX Pros. They don’t hide my flaws at the top end. Don’t push me as much as I thought. And completely love how they preform when I swing relaxed and well.
then there ishow they feel when you find the center. ?
Looking forward to the next podcast
Great stuff fellas, a fun listen. I think Jman would be just fine with OL irons. Would love to see that happen, along with a picture every golf day. It would be like a THP Flat Stanley.
@Jman love the passion you have for golf equipment, I could sense that during the podcast, and I can say that it definitely shines through in the depth of your reviews!
Love the talk on coaching. Once you start seeing the kids go off and achieve all this success, it really makes you proud to be a part of it. Then they come back for alumni games, or to watch the newest group of current players, and its amazing for it to come full circle. Jobs, weddings, kids, etc. Just amazing! Been coaching high school soccer for the last 10 years, and wavering a bit on the next year, because my kids are getting older, but thinking about all those kids I’ve coached, makes me want to keep going!
As for OL during 2021:
Man I needed to hear this. Loved every minute.
