While at the 2014 PGA Merchandise Show, THP TV caught up with an icon in the club making world, Jesse Ortiz. Ortiz, working with Bobby Jones Golf, has developed a new line that debuted at the event called Blackbird.
Let THP know what you think of the latest technology coming from Bobby Jones and master craftsman Jesse Ortiz.
Interesting take on the “cup face” design. Hotter face, and more forgiving. Hybrids can adjust by lie angle?? That is pretty cool. I like that idea. My irons are bent 1 degree upright, but I have never ever thought about getting a hybrid 1 degree upright.
Very interesting, sounds like the cup face would give you a ton of forgiveness! Which is a necessity for most amateurs. And the lie angle adjustments sound super cool!
Sounds like they are using the same materials and ‘cup face’ technology that tour edge exotics has used for a few years now. I love their fairways and hybrids, and I’m hoping that the bobby jones line can capture some of the magic and improve upon it.
I want to know if Lenny will let me use his 35 degree Bobby Jones Hybrid.
I’ve used Jesse’s hybrids for years — the 2012 lineup featured a larger and white club head, similar to this Blackbird, but 2014 brings cup face tech and a black club head.
The 2012 white lineup was easy to hit – I owned the 21, 25, 30 — the 30 was just fun to hit high and straight about 170 yards without much effort. Looking forward to the new lineup.
I’ve hit the new Black Hybrids – wow! Solid! Solid! Solid! One of the best clubs of the year. Easy to launch, versatile, and sounds like a persimmon – dare I say it again –solid yet hot feeling in an attractive package.
