The Bridgestone e12 Contact golf ball came out earlier this year and we have received a number of questions asking about spin on approach shots. Can you hold greens? Does the cover impact approach shots on full swings?
We hopped into the hitting bay in the THP Tech Studio to test it out and see. Watch the video below as we take different scoring irons and take multiple swings and examine the data to see how well this multi-layer surlyn ball with a unique dimple pattern works out.
Does the data in the video above match up with your personal experiences with surlyn covered golf balls? Have you given the new Bridgestone e12 Contact a try before?
One of the often misunderstood aspects of golf balls is that the cover is what is helping to create spin on all shots. While this is true to an extent, it has far more impact the closer you get to the green. Specifically around the green.
Golf ball fitting continues to pick up steam and with a plethora of choices that exist, it makes perfect sense to find the best performance for your game. Previously we featured a video that showed how much difference can exist on just irons, from one ball to the next based on a proper fit (a full club in irons). If you missed that video and want to check it out, it’s here.
If you think the e12 Contact from Bridgestone is one you want to try out, you can find more information or pick some up directly, right here on their website.
I don’t have a launch monitor for spin numbers, but I’ve been getting the e12 Contact to stop on greens anywhere from an inch to 6-7 feet from its pitch mark on approach shots. And I’m not a super high-spin player. I really like the performance of this ball from tee to green.
Theyre a really good golf ball. I actually put my whole girls team into them last season and two of my freshman boys.
Picked a dozen up for my couple rounds I hopefully get to play on this vacation
That all is just a prologue to say that I am back on the e12 train. There is something about this ball that just suits me. It is not the longest ball I have played off the tee with driver, but I think it stays in play more often and it gets great distance off the tee with my 3W. It feels great off irons and I think I hit more greens and they stop quick because I hit the ball high. I played this shooting a PB last week after hitting my BRX OB on hole 3. So for the time being, I am just going to go with these. I have no numbers to tell you why this ball works so well for me. As far as short game goes, I tend to get myself in trouble when I try to spin a ball and these work well for what I need.

Love the personalization on the ball. I’m not a fan of the matte red. I really like the matte yellow. I have 2 dozen of the white (bought because of reviews on here) but I haven’t put them in play yet.
Yes, the red is not pleasing to the eye, but the green or yellow, is.
