Gone is the time when we might wait years for the next Apex iron release from Callaway Golf. In the present day, the name of the game is making sure there is an option for everyone, and Callaway is certainly a leader in that regard.
Honestly, while some may scoff at such a concept and shake their fists at the sky about there being too many releases, isn’t it better to have series of irons within one lineup, in this case Apex, that fit specific needs instead of trying to make two or three irons fit everyone?
Like it or not, that is the evolution of Apex, and today Callaway Golf is indeed adding one more iron into the current lineup with the all-new Apex Ai150’s.
Callaway Apex Ai150 Irons
In August of 2024, Callaway introduced two new main-line Apex irons with the Ai200 and Ai300’s. These both remain popular and successful, but as they are aimed primarily at golfers who are in that upper single to higher handicap range, it always felt like there was something missing. Yes, the Apex Pro options are there, but within the Ai branch, there was nothing that sat where the previous generations Pro’s did.
That is where the new Apex Ai150’s come into play.
With these, Callaway is running with the tagline of being their “Fastest Players Iron”, which in a lineup that now has as much breadth as Apex is saying a lot. The Ai150 look to bring the things to the table which the 3-9 handicap golfers prefer and can benefit from.
Sure, speed is part of that and the 1025 forged hollow body design certainly brings that to the table, especially in the 3-7 irons which also feature 455 faces. The other aspect though is added precision without sacrificing power. This is where the Ai Face comes into play, offering more consistency and spincistency in an iron of this profile.
Speaking of profile, to create the Ai150, Callaway began with the Tour validated Apex TCB shape. Obviously, there is more size in play here through things like a thicker topline, wider sole, more offset, and a larger face as well, but the core shape of the iron comes from the TCB. Each iron in the set also uses tungsten for prevision weighting which in coordination with the Ai10x faces fine tune the launch and spin window.
An aspect which continues to shine across all of the Callaway iron releases in the past year is the use of their Tri-Sole design. By having that leading edge with built in relief, they have found that players of all skill levels are benefitting from better entry into and exit from the turf without digging than in the past.
