It’s hard to believe that it has been 19 months since Callaway introduced their latest range of Apex ’21 irons. The entire Apex range continues to be a huge success for Callaway, but if you aren’t familiar with this line, feel free to check out our preview article by clicking here.
Apex is the best of the best for Callaway Golf. With every release, these forged irons continue to get some of the brand’s top pieces of technology. As you probably figured out before reading this article, the new Apex Black irons are Callaway’s best irons in a Black Plasma PVD finish. Black finishes are one of those golf trends that certainly draw the eye of many golfers because irons look sleek in this type of finish. Let’s face it, the Apex irons already look good, and the darker finish might make them look even more attractive.
Besides the finish, golfers probably know what they are getting in the Apex Black irons. Each iron has an A.I. designed Flash Face Cup creating higher ball speed and more consistent spin profiles across the face. Also, the Tungsten Energy Core helps Callaway engineers cram 5x more tungsten into these irons than in the Apex 19. Having more precisely placed tungsten helps with launch conditions and forgiveness on those off-center strikes. Also, the 1025 milled carbon steel body and urethane microspheres help deliver the fantastic sound and feel you’d expect when hitting a forged iron.
Even though Callaway expects that most purchases of the Apex Black irons will be via custom order, they will also be found in stores, although their presence will be on a much smaller scale. Steel irons will be available with a True Temper MPH 95 steel shaft, while the UST Recoil Dart 75 will be the graphite option. Both shafts will employ a blacked-out look with a black Golf Pride Z Grip.

Also, $275 a club with my preferred shaft is just stupid.
this is only the second time this finish has been used (Jaws Raw being the first). I think they’re still too new to judge how well it wears yet
oh man, I’m getting sooooo excited. With these loft difference, it means my blacked out Jaws Raw wedges fit the gaps real well too. I’m ready!
Yes, the transition from AW to 54W will be perfect!
Time will tell, but $275 per club is a bit steep for me…. I be po!
50% trade in bonus today still!
Only up to $500 credit……
I found it leaving DFW this morning to Louisville @xThor
LOL.. me too!! i have refreshed my link every hour on the hour.. just hoping it will say "shipped".. so glad i pulled the trigger on these.. at first was thinking to stay with my DCB’s but the black just looked so good and the $800 credit i’m supposed to get didnt hurt.. oh well back to watching the driveway for the Aamazon truck!!!
Per chance you didnt happen to know the day, time , name and addresses of the other ones leaving?.. would save me some time from having to sit out here in the driveway waiting…
Hear ya.. but i read some scientific studies that said playing black clubs is directly correlated to lower scores and increased life span for the player and their families…. that kind of science was enough to sway me to get them.. just saying…
It was the strangest thing. All the Callaway boxes from Mexico had new tags on them that said Louisville, KY.
All this excitement has me wondering if i should also get the blacked out raw wedges to go with the irons..
I can answer this.

And they said you couldn’t make @xThor any sexier. They were wrong.
Oh my!!!! that is bleeping beautiful!!!!
Holy hell ???
I love my Rogue ST Pro irons. I think it is the best feeling and performing “pro” set irons that has come out (beating the 2021 Apex Pro that I had played). I have to get the steel (heavier) shafts out of those before I can play them again, and I am planning on doing that.
but man something about Apex just brings me back into this feeling like I’m being hugged by a soft warm blanket.
I hit some shots today that felt pure as can be, and I hit others on the toe, that reminded me of the forgiveness I loved and missed.
One thing I will say, Rogue ST definitely fixed the low toe miss from a forgiveness standpoint that 2021 Apex and Apex Pro was one of the only downfalls, but it’s not really that bad. I hit one today and Could immediately tell.
but I generally stayed near the center of the club face today, and these shined. Paired with the MMT 85 and I hit some just real rockets, that had more than enough stopping power on the greens.
now, these are a few degrees weaker than the Rogue ST Max I have been playing, but I saw no real distance loss (maybe <5 yards). Balls did launch and peak it looked slightly higher, definitely coming off the club face in a window I really liked the looks of.
ill be on trackman tomorrow to play more
What color did you finally decide on?!
Those look great in hand
Wait and see….
That is it for pics!
for now. I gotta spice em up a bit, then more pics!
Okay….. I’ll wait!
Got my set yesterday as well and hit them this morning.. the feel was just so nice.. the profile and sound was just so pleasing… glad i made the choice.. the raw wedges are also on the way.. so i guess it’s back to hanging out in the driveway waiting for the delivery guy!!..
Oh one last thing.. had never really been properly fitted before this set and wow!!.. couldn’t believe what a difference having the length adjusted for me (-1/4") and lie (2 degrees flat) would make.. just unreal.. and the wedges are coming adjusted like that too.. so cant wait to see what that’ll feel like in the short shots i sometime struggle with.. All this makes me think i should also look at getting my putter fitted as well.. – possibly lie angle and loft…
This is awesome stuff!
it sure is!!..i’m excited at the thought of what fitting could mean for my putter.. honestly had not been a real believer in the whole fitting story line.. but.. my word!! it’s like night and day for me with these irons so far.. and dont get me started with how damn good they look!!
great!
I know previous versions of Callaway’s black/pvd finishes have had some issues when bending for loft/lie. While the Apex Black I went std/std as it fits pretty well.
The Jaws Raw I have adjusted though, and haven’t seen any issues with it hurting this new finish! It’s a really great color, I’m very happy with the finish change for Callaway!
Go for a putter fitting. You’ll be amazed….
will do.. cant wait!!
