With each driver release cycle, Callaway Golf has continued to be at the forefront of providing a breadth of models to ensure that every type of golfer has something within the lineup that addresses their specific needs. However, there have always been a handful of other models which make their way around Tour bags and inevitably are seen by the internet sleuths of the world. With that, there is usually some push back as to why we mere mortals can’t get our hands on those versions. That ends now, because for the first time, Callaway Golf is bringing the Triple Diamond MAX to a general release, TD MAX for short.

Callaway Triple Diamond MAX Driver
People asked for it, and Callaway listened, as the previously Tour only Triple Diamond MAX driver head is set to be the fifth driver in their current release lineup. Now, before someone thinks they are doing this simply to be reactionary and to drum up buzz for their current release, we would remind everyone that the brand currently holds the #1 market share spot for woods across the board. This is a want-to kind of release, not a have to, and that just adds to the excitement.

The Triple Diamond MAX is currently Callaway’s second most played driver on all Tours. It takes the DNA which has made the 450cc Triple Diamond their Tour staple and morphs it into 460cc of intrigue. This head is a blending of profiles, taking both the traits of the Triple Diamond as well as the MOI of the MAX to create the most stable players style driver in the Callaway arsenal.

As far as the design goes, the TD MAX has less face progression than the standard TD and is also overall a much more neutral head. According to Callaway, this means the start line off of this head will be much more neutral while adding more stability to the headshape thanks to the MAX construction aspects. What you get is slightly more spin than the TD, but with a much higher MOI for additional control and versatility.

During testing on Tour, it was noted by the Callaway staff that “stability” was the constant feedback which they received. That stability is what caused gains to take place for Tour staff as it allowed them to swing more freely and aggressively. The head itself doesn’t utilize the sliding track of the base MAX model, but instead maintains the front/back weighting of the Triple Diamond (10g/4g) which in coordination with the Opti-Fit adapter keeps the broad range of fitting potential Callaway is known for.
The Details
Callaway is pairing the Triple Diamond MAXbwith the Project X Denali Blue (S or X) rather than the Black as the stock option and is finishing it with the Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360. The head will be RH only and will be offered in 10.5 and 9.0 lofts. As expected, pricing will be in line with the rest of the Ai Smoke lineup, coming in at $599.99. The driver will be available for pre-order on 5/21/24 and at retail on 6/7/24.

I’m thinking a 10 in the front and 14g in the back

Curious. Has anyone tried to put a 10g weight in both the front abx the back port? I currently have the 10 g in the back and it’s definitely more forgiving than with it in the front just feel like I’ve lost some ball speed with that set up. Would putting another 10g weight in the front defeat the purpose?

Swing weight will increase approximately 3 points. May be a touch much.

Weight in the back, more forgiveness.
weight up front, less spin.
The same in both will do some form of hybrid to It.

But will it have any impact on the clubs launch characteristics?

I remember earlier in the year buying the TD Maxx on a whim based on all the reviews here. I was unable to demo it at the time and bought it purely based on the talk. I remember the first month that I had I was regretting my decision as I was not getting the at distance and was not as forgiving as the standard AI smoke max. However I stuck with it and it has become a unicorn driver for me. I look forward to using it every chance I get and now I have an AI smoke max that has been sitting gathering dust. Wondering if I should trade it in for something or keep it as a backup.

My turn today to jump on the TD Max train.
Have been gaming the Ai Smoke Max in a 10.5 (recently set to -1 on the cog) for almost all of this year, and it has seen a fair bit of action on the course, and a significant amount of use on the range as I have been sorting out my swing path. Many many drives hit ???
My local pro shop / range had a couple of the TD Max into stock recently at £499, dropped to £399 and then last week over Christmas went to £349 – which was my tipping point. I know that the new drivers are out in less than a week, and there is likely to be a similar head in the range but nothing is ever guaranteed. I’m also not really up for a £599 (+£250 over today’s) purchase price.
So I went and demoed it this morning. Used my Kai’li white shaft which has been the best fit for me (so far) on current driver and alternated the heads gathering TopTracer data. I did try it at 9 degrees and at +1 – 10 degrees – and the extra loft, and slight draw bias helped. Final configuration was +1/D – although I’m looking to go +1/N as I continue to improve my path.
Findings:
– I was getting about an additional 5-6 yards out of the TD Max and it gave me the longest drive
– Dispersion was tighter with a really nice cluster dead on-line (mind blown at this despite others experiencing the same)
– Better starting line – the Max typically started left, this more online
– Loved the lower sounding thud that I got with the TD Max.
I’ll be trading in the standard Max along with a couple of other clubs this week – quoting tomorrow before the announcement of the new drivers.
So I’m now the proud owner of a just unwrapped from the clingfilm, definitely not hammered, TD Max – and looking forward to working on it over the next couple of months – and maybe playing with the weights and possibly a shaft or two before the weather improves again here. Tempted to see what a Ventus Blue TR 6-S might deliver.

I too have the Ai Smoke TD Max. If it were me I would try and sell although could hold on and hope that Callaway offers a great trade in program in 2025 similar to this year when they offered double trade in. I used that trade in program to upgrade from my Paradym TD to the Ai Smoke TD Max.
Decision to upgrade was no brainer plus I got rid of another club sitting around that I couldn’t sell for what Golftown gave me as trade in under the 2X.
Had my first real 9 holes on the course with the TD Max and all I can say is I am happy with the switch from the OG Paradym TD to this one.
First, the heavier head allows you to just go after it and you know where the head is. It definitely has a more neutral-bias compared to the TD fade bias which is what I am very happy with (even hit 2 bomber draws today)….
Do not sleep on this driver – it will suit a wide variety of golfers looking for forgiveness and less spin to mitigate misses.
I purchased the 1K Black for my TD Max. Put the 10 gram weight in front, lowered to 8°, draw setting. Today was first day to play with this set up and i can honestly say that today was my first day to hit 7 out of 8 fairways. My one miss was a straight pull, 100% my fault. Have to say this has been my favorite driver i have ever played.
Been a long time lingerer reading club and equipment reviews on the forums, went for a fitting last year, didn’t get on great with the AI smoke max, liked the 3D but was a bit erratic and couldnt control the lefts, came away with a ping g430 max 10k in 10.5 head tour black 2.0 65x shaft, mid size grip, was never convinced by it, felt like I was giving up 30+ yards to my previous Aerojet driver albeit finding more fairways. The ping driver did have a 2 way miss in it and I know that’s my swing, but something I never had with the Aerojet.
For reference with my previous Aerojet my swing speed was 120mph+ when going after it cruise at around 115, 170 – 175 ball speed on average, my miss was always a slice.
I bought the mini driver on release last year and instantly loved it, the problem I had was that I hit it so well it was as long as my ping driver, and more accurate, I saw a max 3d head on eBay a few months ago and was intrigued and instantly got me scouring the forums and YouTube for info, not the most covered driver head in review history, 2 months later and a 9* 3D max came up for a price I could not refuse, bought it Tuesday delivered Wednesday morning, took it to the range Wednesday evening, first few hits in neutral setting were to high and didn’t feel as good as my mini 340, knocked it down -1 degree neutral, WOW distance and ball speed were back, trajectory was perfect, 5-10 yard cut on every shot. avg carry back up over 325 on good strikes, didnt see one ball go right on me, mis hits were straight and probably still pushing up to 290.
This is THE best feeling driver I have hit, I have probably bought and sold on average 5-8 drivers a year for the past 5 years chasing the unicorn that works for me and my game, I’ve tested low spin, max forgiveness and core models, I find the face of the club pretty central most of the time, and no driver head will make up for me leaving the face open, but the max 3D has surpassed all my expectations, if I can hit this on the course at the weekend like I hit it last night at the range, I can easily see me knocking 4-6 shots off my score a round and 5 shots off my handicap within a few months.
I’m not normally one for forums and putting my thoughts out there, but there is so little information online for this club I had to sign up and post this and give a shout out to all of you for posting your thoughts.
I genuinely am excited to get out on the course at the weekend and give it a rip, and who knows, maybe I can go 12 months without changing drivers!

Still enjoying the ??? Max. Playing with the weighting made a difference for me. Great driver!

Coming to Dallas anytime soon? I thought the same thing about the TDM but the core in elyte is better across the board for me
I have 3 sim rounds under my belt with the TD Max and pretty much already made the decision to use this as my gamer ( in lieu of Elyte blowing up those plans ). I haven’t done my normal data collection because its been a crappy winter so far for a variety of personal reasons so I am not on my normal winter testing mode. Anecdotally, a bit slower on ball speed, but way more consistent on spin and launch accross the face vs the TD. The TD I was playing at 8deg head at marked loft with the weight back. The TD Max I am playing 8.5 deg TAF head at 8.0 measured static loft with the weight forward.

I really want to jump into the TD Max because it was really, really good in testing. But I want to hit the Elyte first. Are you seeing better dispersion and distance from the Elyte?

Yes. I really wanted the TDM because it cut the spin compared to the max last year. This years core model is spinning less than TDM for me and I can move it faster. I am getting less super slices even when I hulk out for a swing. Its really impressive.

Winter this year in the UK has not been kind for golf, I’m a tinkerer when it comes to my equipment anyway, the amount of shafts I buy, test and sell is a joke compared to my playing partners, but this 3D max, just works for me.
Providing it does what I need it to when I need it to on the course then I will be ecstatic, just wish I had bought it sooner, I might play around with the D setting to straighten out the flight, but if I know that its a consistent 5-10 yard cut in N then I’m more than happy to leave it there and play the cut, getting the flight window I want with the distance I want with the 10g back and 4g (I think) front is great as ill get the added forgiveness of the weight back, I know I could squeeze a few more yards with the weight forwards, but this time of year we don’t get any roll out here so carry is everything, and I wont be changing for summer if it works as it is!
Driving is the most enjoyable part of the game for me (unless I’m sending one 100 yards right) so to get the feeling back is great, I’ve been chasing this feeling off the face for months owning the G430 10k, and to get it back in minutes with the 3D max just blew me away!
for giggles, looked in the site, the Max was not available with the aretera shaft. Why not?

It was part of the elyte launch. Might need to call to see if they can make that happen
I have the free fitting next week will the max td to the list. Based on what I’ve read here, why not.
So I have one 9 hole scramble and 3 rounds of simulator with this driver and I honestly think, for me and my swing, it is the most accurate driver I have gamed in a LONG time. ballspeed is consistent across the face and while launch is higher than the TD I had, the rollout is more.
