Callaway’s Paradym Ai Smoke driver has been making waves on golf courses nationwide, from Valhalla to local municipal courses. Not only did the Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver contribute to Xander Schauffele capturing his first major title, but according to Golf Datatech, the Ai Smoke Family is the best-selling driver in the US market. It’s safe to say that the freight train that is Callaway Golf is not slowing down. Today, Callaway is introducing a new limited edition variant to their popular driver line with the unveiling of the new Paradym Ai Smoke Tactical drivers.
This is not Callaway’s first foray into releasing a tactical version of its products. While it doesn’t seem all that long ago, they released a series of Tactical MD4 wedges in 2018. If you remember those, they had a matte green finish with black accents. As you can see, the color palette is similar here.
One of the coolest characteristics of the Ai Smoke drivers is that the forged carbon sole design is unique from driver to driver; therefore, no two drivers look exactly alike. There was plenty of chatter about whether or not the smokey look on the sole was a preferred aesthetic upgrade over last year’s blue finish found on the Paradym. Those areas have been enhanced with a new green forged carbon for the Ai Smoke Tactical drivers. Callaway could easily use these drivers as a prop on M*A*S*H with these new color patterns. Since I just dated myself, please feel free to use G.I. Joe or Halo as your pop culture reference point.
Callaway collaborated with Mitsubishi to develop a custom green Tensei shaft and added a Golf Pride grip that complements the tactical look. Early photos show that the green shaft leading into the green forged carbon head is a perfect pairing. Additionally, there’s a custom headcover that adds a touch of exclusivity.
