It has been a bit since the last iteration of the Callaway X Forged irons. Today, multiple sets are coming out in the form of a player’s cavity and muscle back, but we are focusing on the Callaway X Forged CB.
Today they are announcing the latest version, the X Forged CB and MB and this post we are talking all things CB. In the video below, we explain the tech, take some swings and breakdown all of the data to give you a full understanding of look, feel sound and performance from the THP Tech Studio.
After watching that, what are your thoughts on the Callaway X Forged CB?
Actually, I’d leave it up the the professionals with professional gear to generate the values. Go to any testing site and compare the results they attain. Youtube has tons of em and I’ve watched them all. Go compare the newest irons from TM, Srixon, and Mizuno. The numbers are pretty much the same.
Lmao this didn’t age well.

if you’re going to troll at least try and make it somewhat viable instead of just spammy.

Well, to be honest I did just buy them on Sunday so I do have to take that comment back. My bad.
Been there. Done that.
What irons did the Apex Pros replace?
Titleist AP’s
i hope to know more tomorrow, and i leave the real data to those who have spent time with them like @JB and @Canadan. just going off what i’ve seen so far, these don’t seem to share a ton in common with their predecessors. more tech and design features in these.
Did you ever confirm they’ll be there for sure? I really hope they are. Really interested in what you think. I’m guessing the added launch and spin will be nice for you. But, I’m not sure they’ll be able to keep up with the Mavrik Pro’s in distance.
i didn’t really have a specific contact to ask. i’ll know tomorrow afternoon and will report back
Looking forward to your thoughts.
the set at HQ definitely does.
I’d love to find a way to test them head to head out on the course. I’m a big fan of the ‘18 version. They really work well for me.
@Canadan talks about them in the video.
Will certainly try to find a place to hit them though, I’ve doubt I’ll enjoy them when standing over the ball.
first, the look. i think these look really good in person. i know they’re atypical for this class, but they did it for me. at address, i agree with those who say the offset stands out. again, not what i expected in this class. the top line was ever so slightly smaller than my mav pro, but otherwise similar size and shape.
now feel. i liked the feel a lot of the middle. soft but powerful. instant feedback on misses. hard left bias for me.
now performance. very nice flight. about 800 rpm more spin than my mav pro (some of that is loft, some is design). about 12y shorter. unfortunately my swing was not great, so consistency wasn’t something i can comment on. i will say small misses lost a fair bit of distance for me relative to the mav pro.
overall they look and feel nice, but they’re not for me. if i’m being very honest, in thinking through callaway’s current line, i’m actually not sure who these are for.
I’m waiting until they go retail so I can bring the whole set outside to try. If I didn’t have a lot of other new stuff to play with though, I’d be in on it blind. After more monitor time, I really do like it. My initial thoughts have held true, and like @McLovin said, I’m not entirely sure who they’re for because they’re not especially long. I think they seem good, but there are a bunch of clubs that are good that are longer with similar offset and topline and stuff. So.. ?? I like them, and I think they’ll be popular, and you might really like them with your speed, but I feel like they’d sell more with such a modern look if it was more of a X Forged S or something. :confused2:Want to get whole set outside like, yesterday, to get the real skinny.
Yeah, distance isn’t the seller with these. Something like this is right in my wheelhouse. I don’t need or want any extra yards. The idea of ultra consistent distances has me enticed. When I tried it, I was getting almost identical ball flight to the MB’s I was putting it up against.
I won’t be pre-ordering them. I want to spend some time over the offseason testing out some different shafts to see if I can find a good pairing. Then there’s the whole how badly do I want to stay married angle, lol. Still trying to find a valid way to explain to her why I need to spend $1600 on irons. I’ll figure something out.
The market is just like you in my opinion. Smaller and a bit niche, like post traditionally lofted players irons. Similar to the last X-Forged set, which did extremely well right out of the gate.
I have faith in you!
How does she not know by now that you basically have a second wife named Cally anyway?!?!
site and be up to date daily.
I’m fine with them not being as long as other irons, the consistency and control is worth the trade off.
I noticed that too. I like it. Feels like it should be that way more often.
I agree. Especially now that these sets are commanding the price that they are. The perceived value seems to be higher when the catalog is open to whatever you want basically. At least IMO.
I’m with you 100% on that. It immediately made me feel like the price was less of an issue.
Yes, that was a nice surprise. I went with the Nippon Neo 95 at no upgrade charge. It certainly made it a bit nicer at check-out.
This is good stuff.
The X-Man had some in his bag as well…TV broadcast had a great close-up of one approach shot.
Sadly this is what happens with tour protos though…
that’s a pretty big deal. i think kis was still playing the 2016 apex pro if i’m not mistaken. he’s not one who switches gear often.
Haha. Little bait and switch for all the #golfnerds out there.. haha.
I swear I saw the Apex one on TV last week on TV.
I’ll be impressed if Callaway is just toying with the degenerate golf nerds like me lol.
The comment about the offset is interesting to me. During my fitting we found that I responded well to a bit of offset. But I have a visual preference for something smaller. I’m also someone who doesn’t mind hitting a longer iron.
It’s a harder sell to lose distance though – if it’s more lofts than anything, I’m OK with that.
i don’t mind losing a half club, but a full club is a tough one for me. to hit a 7i 178 with my mav pro, then hit a decent 7i with the xfcb and get 165 was a little more loss than i’d be comfortable with. if i was struggling holding greens with the mav pro, then maybe i could get on board with the xfcb because of the welcomed spin. but the mav pros hold just fine for me. or if i was hooking the crap out of the mav pro and wanted something more stable in the xfcb, again maybe i could swallow the distance loss. but both were hooking when i tested, xfcb more so than mav pro (xfcb was standard lie, mav pro 1* flat).
What irons are you gaming right now?
I hit them at the very end of a session that included my ZipCore Tour Rack testing posted in that thread followed by Mizuno 921F with Modus 120X vs. ProjectX 6.5 shaft testing. I was getting tired, not doing a great job finding center anymore. They are powerful and pure off center, very solid. Off center hits were sharper than the 921F’s I had just finished testing, but not at all objectionable (plus the 921F are PLUSH, and more forgiving). They gave me the spin numbers that I would typically be looking for in a 7i and about the right carry distance as well.
I’m looking forward to going back and hitting them again when fresh. Very appealing package. I hit the ProjectX IO shaft in 6.0.

Good numbers! Not surprising that they’re a little shorter than the 921F. It’s a couple degrees weaker after all. If you had to say one felt better than the other, which would you choose?
Still playing the T300 and Apex combos (depending on the day). I’m guessing these distances will be in line with the 770s based on the lofts.
Only one way to find out I guess – I’ll take some swings at the local shop
