Back in early 2018, we got our first look at the last X Forged Utility from Callaway Golf. With an update coming, we wanted to dive right in and share all of the info of this brand new Callaway X Forged UT.
We aren’t talking about something lacking technology though. A.I. Flash Face Cup bringing speed across the entire surface area and urethane microspheres in the hollow body construction for a preferred feel.
Obviously the most attention grabbing from an aesthetics stand point though is the external MIM’d tungsten weighting (more on that in video).
How do they perform? What do they feel like? Check out this video below as we put them to the test in the THP Tech Studio.
Playing at high elevation and desert conditions that allow for tons of roll I am sometimes able to get 240 out of my 3 UT and that feels pretty good. Over 300 though, that is something else
dude….that hot chicken has beastly powers!
It was absurd, it was so so so absurd.
I’m going to do this. I had such a time with this one in 21 that I nabbed a used one in a late night eBay session where I may have been facilitated by people and beverages.
I love the ZX, and it’s unfair how under the radar it is, this one is freaking special as well though. Wowwwwww. ????
Yessir! They’re just…..so damn good.
I still don’t know if I’m a utility guy but that comparison intrigues me
It should be fun, I hope haha
Both are rocket launchers, so I’m looking forward to seeing how they end up stacking up.
The feel is insane. I had a lot of fun at THP HQ swinging one, and fell in love with it quickly.
It’s crazy how fast I forgot about the feel once I put it away for a while. After one round when I pulled it back out it went from
‘that does feel good’ to
‘Mmm… Hmm…’ to
‘did I like it this much when they first came out?’
*Checks thread
Yep. I did. Actually complained people weren’t talking about the feel more.
to ‘I need less clubs’ in the span of like 10 holes. . It’s hard to want to pull it back out of the bag this time around.
Which one did you get?!
2) Hate the smoke black in the UT
3) Best feeling UT ever? It’s damn close.
Wow, that’s crazy good!
It really is, he’s a Danimal….with maybe a little elevation.
105MMT rips, I like it in my 4UT being similar weight to the irons.
I’m curious as to how 149 ball speed produces a 300 yard shot?
I’m not sure it is possible to get 149 ball speedwith 4k spin out to 3 hundo. The total distance seems off. Impressive bs for the UT though.
With respect to my numbers, my TrackMan sessions normally are set for my elevation, 4000 feet. 150-ish ball speed can get you 300 yards in my neck of the woods. The same drive is 270 or so yards are sea level.
See above.
Yeah, so I guess the key is to focus on the bs and spin
I’m bias against 85 in a UT anyway, but the 105 MMT is crazy smooth. Makes a guy feel like a hero.
21/u mmt
Man, I love lighter. It’s not what it used to be.
The stock shafts (Project X U, Hzrdus Smoke Hybrid) are .370 tip size. I think the Tour AD IZ hybrid shaft is also .370.
Would love to get feedback on this too.
I’m thinking I’d go Pro 4 iron, then to the 21 UT.
Dunno, that 24 UT looks intriguing though.
Much different in size profile, the UT has a wider sole and more mass low and back than the Apex Pro will. The more apt conversation in my opinion would be these versus the DCB or even standard Apex, still different animals, but with a more similar weighting premise.
I was looking on the Callaway website and it says that the 24* is unavailable for up to 8 weeks.
I guess the good news there is I certainly wont be playing any golf any time soon…
I also hit the 18 low but get plenty of roll out and find its awesome on windy days. I have the stock steel shaft in it and I am looking at changing to a graphite shaft to try and get a touch more launch and control. The stock steel shaft is a bit to soft for my swing speed. Maybe put a grandpa shaft (just messing) in the 18 and see how you go, you may be shocked at the result.
read back a few post and you’d see why that one was funny. I’m so much better with hybrids that I don’t carry a utility.
You and most people. It’s definitely still a niche club, and rightfully so imo.
I feel I’d be ok with it from the tee. Off of the fairway I’d hit one out of 4 that would be worthy of keeping it in the bag. When hit well, it feels great though.
I think that’s the case for a lot of people.
For me, it’s a placement and wind club. Effective in this crazy ass weather state of mine
I’m in WV. Its all hillside and carry. A couple courses have flat land that will give some run but they aren’t maintained well enough to try count on. Better off to go as long as possible. The fairway and rough can be hard to distinguish here. Extremely dry in the summer, but from October through April its a mud hole.
The wind just likes to kick our ever loving ass here haha
