Back in early 2018, we got our first look at the last X Forged Utility from Callaway Golf. With an update coming, we wanted to dive right in and share all of the info of this brand new Callaway X Forged UT.
We aren’t talking about something lacking technology though. A.I. Flash Face Cup bringing speed across the entire surface area and urethane microspheres in the hollow body construction for a preferred feel.
Obviously the most attention grabbing from an aesthetics stand point though is the external MIM’d tungsten weighting (more on that in video).
How do they perform? What do they feel like? Check out this video below as we put them to the test in the THP Tech Studio.
Just glad you’re going to get your UT. It’s a good club. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it when you get it in play.
It 100% looks better behind the ball. Get that wallet ready.
Are u going to be using it with your mim tours?
I have an alternate bag I am building out. It likely goes in that bag.
Right on, any hints at what irons will be in that bag?
There are two possibilities. Either a set of XXIO X irons or a set of Apex Pro/Apex combos. My goal is to see if I can get the scoring that I saw that last part of last year playing a player cavity profile, but a little more juice in the mid irons. I don’t know if it will work, but that is my goal. I want to do some golf travel, especially as we get the pandemic under control and when playing at sea level, I think I need a bit more distance in my irons. Those are my thoughts on it.
I went Smoke Black 80 in mine. I think it will be awesome.
That’s what this one had in it when I got it, it was solid, I’m just seaking the illusive unicorn setup
Anyone compare them to each other?
I’m leaning heavily here mostly because I may or may not be adding other Cally goodies to the ole bag!
There, I helped you correct your post. We lawyer types are good at editing.
Funny how lawyers seem to word things so nicely…
I keep trying to improve myself, but I don’t have much to work with. ?
I reviewed the ZUX on the homepage and bought the UT. What would you like to know?
Guess I’d wonder which one launches and spins more. Which one feels better?
If you had a $5k bet on the line tomorrow and had to put one in your bag, which goes in?
They’re super close to being identical in performance, enough you could almost plug and play whichever. The ZX Launches a little lower for me (20 vs 21 loft though) and spins about 200-300 rpm more on average. The ball speed race is a dead heat imo, as is feel.
What I’m saying is, I don’t think someone can go wrong either way
Ventus Blue? that sounds quite delicious
It’s a hard ponder…there’s some Kinetixx stuff coming though that…whew.
Saw that J got you answered. I have them both too and the Srixon launches just a tad higher for me for the loft, spins a little more, and it’s a few yards shorter. Feel I’d give to the X Forged. ZX sounds and feels more hollow to me. X Forged has more density. Like them both. It’s likely to be a feel and desired flight thing for most people. I’ve been writing some recent thoughts on the ZX a couple sentences per go as I have time today that I’ll get posted at some point.
I am super keen to see how a ADDi will go in these. I have the 18 degree head and the project x stock shaft in mine and have been seriously considering shaft options and the tour AD shaft shouting put put me in put me in please. What AD shaft are you thinking? Is it the driving iron specific one or the .370 hybrid shaft? 85?95? or even 105? What tip size will you use?
Tip size is 370 so either the iron or hybo will work. The one I built out at THP HQ in the Club Lab was the hybo shaft and I adored it so I’d lean that way. Likely 85 as it’s a good flow into my 5w for me.

?. Nice! Thats the one I was thinking. Not sure I’d go TX though. Let us know how she goes for you!!!
So so so much fun.
Heck yes, now go hit it and lets us know what your thoughts are.
Comparing to my last UT which was a Cobra UT – a much better sound and feel with the X Forged. It feels more dense and more like an iron. The Cobra sounded really clicky and hollow in comparison (even though the Callaway is also hollow body). Cobra was also hit or miss off the deck. I’m finding the X Forged UT to be more consistent all around.
More to come but this one screams keeper.
Addicting, right?
Yeah, that’ll look badass!
I’ve hit that combo. It’s good. I prefer a little more weight in a UT usually and I liked that profile. I have the Project X IO 6.0 (110g) in mine right now.
I keep mulling over a utility and there really isn’t anything better looking than this one IMHO.
Have you not hit it yet?
He’ll love it even more when he does!!
NOT YET Dang it!!!
I’m like 99% sure I will buy one on the looks of it alone…..lol.
Then pull out the CC and buy now. No sense in waiting to hit it
You were at the store and
I’m posting this as a shame on you, because shame on you.
They feel good. Even with a hard ball.
Thanks. I needed that! Stoked to play golf here in the frozen north, and smoke some UT’s.
Well according the the groundhog, we’ll all be good to go for smoking UTs March 16th. I hope for all of us it’s sooner than that, and the X Forged are feeling rested, and frisky.
Amen. The feel is intoxicating. Urethane microspheres are the greatest thing ever.
