When selecting wedges it has become harder to identify which would be best for your game due to more choices being available. While some companies offer great information regarding their grind options, others are a bit limited or have information that is harder to decipher.
We had Edel Golf in the THP Tech Studio to walk you through four different wedge grinds and explain what they are and what type of golfer would benefit most by each.
What wedges do you play and how did you select the grinds for your game?
It’s a pretty tough decision when looking at a website. This makes it a heck of a lot easier.
And from a general sense, this can be applied to other brands based on this video going in depth about each grind.
Thats a great question and it depends really on how the player uses them. If they are full swing clubs primarily, most of the time players opt for similar. If it is about specific uses, like green side or rough or bunkers, etc. Specific grinds can be helpful. Most can still be quite useful regardless of choice with some comfort and usage.
The T would favor someone that is a bit more steep than the C grind with the higher amount of surface area (bounce) near the leading edge.
My 50 and 54 degree are used almost exclusively for full shots, and I definitely went with a different grind because of that.
I want a bit more versatility around the green with my 58, something that can easily turn open on the heel side. Not looking for that at all with my other two wedges.
I come in shallow – a V Grind in 50, C grinds in the higher lofts. Easy.
I’ve tried higher bounce grinds and they can work, but I need to accept what fits me. Mid-bounce (7-9) with grinding for versatility.
So I went to Artisan – and they went back to Edel and Titleist originally said – you don’t make a divot, you give the grass a haircut. So I’ve got 7-8 deg of bounce in 50, 55, 59 with a beviled leading edge so the leading edge sits down on the ground.
In an Edel, it would be similar – V (all around) grind, then C Grind in the other two would be comparable.
Moral of the Story – Accept who you are and accept the fit.
You are very welcome.
That’s great DT. Nice confirmation.
For my tester, I went with a C grind in my 50. I’m a shallow swinger and AZ tends to be firm conditions. I’m really impressed with the versatility of this wedge. It has quickly become my go to wedge. I learned a new trick from @MSEASU to leverage that toe relief when im around the green and have a tight lie, but need to carry the ball over something before I get it rolling. Slight closing of the face, toe down, and putting stroke. ?
Thank you. We had fun shooting this one because the top down view adds the element of really being able to explain the subtle and not so subtle differences.
Now that I have seen this very informational video, the C grind would be the best for me as I have a pretty shallow AOA and don’t take much of a divot.
Thank you very much for this !!
